Named All-Trumbull County as a sophmore last year:

Great instincts, nose for the ball

Film review: Love the second clip where he reads the play and is in the backfield a heartbeat later. Very quick feet during play recognition and then explodes to the point of attack. Excellent run stopper who can shoot gaps with his exceptional quickness. Ferocious hitter who will need to work a little on moving laterally, but has great speed when running north and south. Closes quickly...one second he is not in view and the next the ball carrier is on his back and Julius is the one making the play. Hard to believe you are watching film of a HS sophmore.

OSU is going to have plenty of options at LB between Ferrell, Marrow, Klein and Studlien in-state and Whiting in Kentucky...

Including my alma mater (Youngstown Liberty)

A tad OT, but doesn't it bother you when folks refer to your high school as "Youngstown Liberty" when Liberty is its own township? It's like when they call my alma mater "Youngstown Austintown Fitch"...no, it's just "Austintown Fitch", thank you very much...

I dont get it.. Doesnt Duane do the Ohio High rankings?? Isnt he also doing these rankings for Scouting Ohio?? How come they are different?

JJ Huddle, ScoutingOhio, Ohio High...they are all intertwined somehow.

Possibly good discussion for another thread...not something to be discussed in this thread, which is dedicated to Julius Ferrell...who is nasty on film, by the way (did I mention that?)...

Uh, Mili...I think you are the only one who calls it Youngstown Austintown Fitch...old-timer.

I think there are other Liberty High Schools in Ohio? Might even be one called Liberty Township if I'm not mistaken?

I know it is early, but any indication as to whether Julius like the buckeyes at this early phase? is he a Buckeye fan?

Locally they are referred to as just Liberty, but across Ohio (newspapers) they are Youngstown Liberty.

You got that one right. He's a monster on D. He arrives to the ball carrier with nasty intentions and when he hits you you are going down. Simple as that. He seems to read the plays really well also. This kid is at the top of my list for 09 right now.

The text book tackling is what I found so impressive.. Not only does he blow people up, but he's wrapping and driving guys the proper way..

The LB/DE combos in the 09 class are crazy.. Will be interesting to see which guys put on a bunch of weight the next two years and go to the Dline, and which guys level out and stay at LB..

Unbelievable burst...his first step is almost into the backfield. He also hits like a truck and goes low when he needs to. Great instincts and amazing athleticism for a 200 lb. LB, let alone a 230 lb. LB and he really shows that with his clips at TE. Kid also just makes big plays on the field, which can't be discounted. I honestly think he is the best LB in the state this year after watching his film and I hope for the life of me that he is a Buckeye fan. I know it's early but I think Julius is a possible 5 star for '09.

At 230 pounds already on a 6'1" frame, you have to wonder if he'll grow into a fireplug DT...

He looks like a future MLB to me.

He looked a little rigid at times, but then I remembered he's a 230 pound sophomore and this is probably his first year starting. He showed some tremendous athleticism though. That's what was most impressive to me.

As a sophmore with a 6'1 230 lb. frame you never know but he looks like a future killer MIKE. All depends on how much he grows, how accurate that 230 lb. mark is (which it was hard to tell on film), etc. I love his athleticism and his instincts would be best suited at LB imo, so hopefully he stays in the 230-240 range. Of course every defensive position requires instincts though...

I love both Studlien and Ferrel's film. This may be better suited for his thread, but if Ferrell were to come in at the MIKE, do you think Studlien fits in as a SAM with his size already?
