Male High School's Justin Green, considered one of the top candidates for Kentucky's Mr. Football award, likely will miss his team's next three games with a knee injury.
Male assistant coach William "Jelly" Green, who is Justin's father, said the player suffered a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee Friday night during a 30-13 loss at Ballard.
"It was the second play of the game," William Green said. "He made a cut, and his cleat got caught in the turf and somebody hit him. He played the rest of the game, but he couldn't do what he normally does on offense."
Male (3-2), No. 16 in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings, will host Southern at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a Class 6-A, District Four game. William Green said his son likely will be out until an Oct. 31 contest at Eastern or the Nov. 7 regular-season finale against Manual at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Green, a running back/linebacker who has committed to Ohio State, leads the Bulldogs with 398 yards and eight touchdowns on 66 carries. He also has seven receptions for 37 yards and two TDs.
