'08 WV OL Josh Jenkins (West Virginia Signee)

I would think that local pressure would be the last reason on earth that a kid would pick a school. Parental pressure, yes, but not local. Hell, the kid is going to be where he is for the next four-five years including most of the time during the summer. He won't have to worry about any local pressure.

He wouldn't be at Ohio State for almost another year (which includes a full senior year at high school). That is PLENTY of time to have to deal with "local pressure" IMO.

The local pressure on this young man should be obvious to anyone paying attention. Rich Rodriguez has made it clear to everybody that he really wants Josh and the whole state views his program as a source of pride. They are even more rabid about the program these days, because they don't feel they're getting their props nationally. As Josh himself said in the BN interview, he gets pressed about his WVU commitment everywhere he goes.

Announcing today that he has chosen tOSU over WVU would be like grabbing hold of a lightning rod during a thunderstorm. He'd get fried to a crisp.

The fact that Josh is bringing Mom with him to Columbus in a couple of weeks is a very good sign. And the love his fellow Block-O recruits are showing him, coupled with the family atmosphere JT has created at tOSU, make me pretty confident that -- in the end -- he'll put on a cap with a big 'O' on it.

Scout $

By Lichtenfels. Confirms that car trouble was the reason he was not at the Ohio State camp. Plans on visiting Columbus in July with his mother. Also talks of a trip to Florida State around that very same time frame.

You have to like the comments made about the "contacts" he has.

I can read the article now that scout is free until July 4, and his comments about the WVU camp sound good for us. The way he talks about it, I like our chances here.

When a verbal commit uses the words "decent" to describe the camp talent and "alright" to decribe his time there, you have to wonder just how solid his commitment really is...

My sentiments exactly. Now I know Josh's inside ties. His mom and Bollman are like from the same town. That has to make for good conversation with mom which tranlates into good atmosphere. This might also explain JT and Co. not pursuing any other OL at this time. We honestly know that we are still in good standing and will get warning in advance.

I like the way Josh spoke and got an understanding as to where he is and what his goals are. He is a good kid with good intentions.

Maybe it's just me (I doubt it), but I absolutely love having one of these we're-not-100%-sure-until-signing-day sorts of dramas every year. Jenkins is going to be getting the full court press from Rodriguez and all of the WVU crazies until the last minute, and we're all either going to be thrilled and praising Bollman at the end of it, or we're going to have another apocryphal Gwaltney thread.

Either way, it means plenty of good reading material between now and then.

Big Reds? Jenkins set for U.S. Army Bowl

By JIM BUTTA

PARKERSBURG ? It?s official.

Parkersburg senior-to-be Josh Jenkins has made his choice.

No, not the one about where the 300-pound offensive/defensive lineman will play his collegiate football following his final season as a Big Red.

Jenkins, who has made a verbal commitment to join West Virginia University to be a part of the Mountaineers? Class of 2008, has selected the U.S. Army Bowl as the all-star classic that will receive his playing abilities once the Big Reds have finished their season.

that is, if you take every word a recruit says at face value.

...and that's not to say that any of these kids are purposefully steering others in different directions, although the smart ones do.

But imagine you sign with WVU...then watch all your peers heading to another school...it's bound to cross your signals. If Brewster, Shugarts and Adams are there when he visits with his mom...

He'll be swayed...I hope.

I agree. I'm just saying you can't ignore some things a recruit says ("I'm solid to WVU") and then take other things and read into them.

I also agree with Mili....that his words don't really project well for WVU fans. But that means you're assuming what he said is 100% how he truly feels.

By Kevin Noon... Interesting read on Josh. He addresses some rumors that have been out there recently (committing to FSU, not making tOSU's camp, recruiting for WVU). Josh says he and his mom will be in Columbus on 7/19 and that the visit could go a long way towards determining his destination.
