'08 OH WR/DB D.J. Woods (Cincinnati signee)

BG$ 5/1/07

Woods was he told by Tress that he was their #1 CB in Ohio and an offer could come as early as Monday or Tuesday after Coach Johnson talks to JT.

With two CB recruits, Brandon Harris from FL and D.J. Woods, possibly getting offer very soon, this does not bode well for those who want to see Johnny Adams receive one. Also, if we do bring in a DB, I would much rather it be a corner as we are overloaded at Safety (Dan McCarthy) right now.

I've heard some good things about Woods, but I'd still be surprised if a CB offer went out before camp. Woods and Adams are similar players, but Woods is probably bigger at this point. I'd like to see how both do at camp first.

I would be highly suspicious of an offer to either Adams or Woods gets an offer with all the talent out there and limited scholarships. Pryor, Jenkins, Sweat, Hale, Zordich, Beachum, McCarthy, Scott, Moore, Koger, Mobley, Goebel, Long, Floyd, and Tate among others are out there. Not only do we not have room, but is this really a need position for the team? It is unlikely we will strike out on so many players this year with the momentum we have thus far. In a normal year I think you would take Woods, but I would question it almost as much as the Pentello offer. Not because Pentello or Woods will not be good players, but because we are in on so many gamebreakers this season. We'll see what happens.

With some of the recent offers, and looking at things it tell me that staff thinks we will have more spots available come next Feb. than we might be thinking we will have...

Also you had to know that Tressel can't go without having at least 1 safty and 1 corner in a class...

BTW Woods is probably the fastest kid ranked in the top 15 of Ohio...

If he does get an offer, I love this offer...

My father in law was a FB coach @ Ashtabula St John's in the 70s and 80s...he actually coached a young db named Urban in high school...

Regardless, he always says, if you are going to "reach" on an offer (and I am not saying this is a reach), then make it on a kid from NE Ohio b/c those kids are tough SOBs and some of the best HS football in the country is played in Stark and Cuyahoga counties.

Well, Tressel has been known to go pretty far under the radar to find kids, especially in the "speed" category - Malcolm Jenkins, Donald Washington, Chimdi Chekwa, Rocco Pentello, Dane Sanzenbacher. Woods could be another one of those guys. 4.35 is serious speed, and Strongsville is a solid Division I program

I agree, I have no problem with Tressel and staff under the radar type offers...

That was an odd article... all it said was that Taver Johnson recently spoke to Woods and told him he was gonna talk to Tress bout an offer... and that he'd call in a few days..

That quote from Tressel about the "best CB in Ohio" was from months ago...

So not really sure what the status with this kid is...

In the article he's talkin like an offer in imminent, but nothing in that piece told me that is the case..

I know he ran a blazing time at the Rivals combine.. but he doesnt look any faster than Johnny Adams or Fairchild on tape.. I like Adams new scoutingohio film a whole lot more

Woods is faster

Woods may not be faster than Adams, but he looks faster than Fairchild on film. He also runs his routes more crisply than Fairchild does. He may not be faster than Adams, but he is bigger and, what's more, he's a better all-around football player. Out of Adams, Woods, Fairchild and Peade the later is still my guy, especially since he could play RB in addition to S.

Peade > Adams = Woods > Fairchild
