'08 OH WR/DB D.J. Woods (Cincinnati signee)

I dont really agree. OSU offered Woods as a CB where-as pretty much everyone else was after him as a WR (Nebraska, the SEC schools, Penn State). While Woods said he'd play "any position" after OSU offered him as a CB I'd say theres really no doubt that he felt he was a WR (and we all know how a WR feels about switching to DB). In the end he decided to go where he felt he had an opportunity to shine at WR, which OSU just didn't offer.

Great Fans!

Hey gang,

I just read through this thread after hearing about Nebraska getting DJ.

I was so impressed with the level of discourse in this thread I felt compelled to register just so I could say OSU has some of the best fans in the country. You often hear that of NU's fans and, after living in Cincinnati for a couple of years, seeing MU/OSU and now in Minnesota where I've seen OSU against the gophers, I'd say you all are a fine example of why college football is the best sport on the planet.

Will DJ be great for us? Who knows... if I had a dime for every promising recruit never heard from again... well...

Best wishes to all of you in the coming season and here's to hoping that two of the most-storied teams in football will be able to meet up on the turf soon.

Go Big Red!

PS... would somebody please stop off at Jeni's and mail me a few pints? :)

I guess he wanted an offer so he could spurn us...he seemed awful excited about his OSU offer and that is the only reason I can think of as to why he was so excited about it. Oh well, as the Soup Nazi says...NEXT!

The last couple updates rubbed me the wrong way.. just like RB said.. sounds like he wanted the OSU offer, just so he could then turn around, and shock everyone by spurning us..

W/e I always felt he was a combine warrior, and hadn't shown much on the field.. so I'm not exactly disappointed he went elsewhere... just felt he was a little unclassy with some of his comments or lack thereof regarding OSU
Well, it sounds like D.J. had his mind made up even before he received his Buckeye offer, and that his second trip to Nebraska was merely to "seal the deal", so to speak.

Then why did Woods want an Ohio State offer? I don't know. Maybe he didn't want one. Maybe all the talk about "how special it would be" was merely for the benefit of the fans and the media. I mean, really, would you rather that he had said in interviews that "Ohio State isn't special, and I don't care whether they offer me, because I'm not even considering them." How "unclassy" would that have been...? Would we fans now have a higher opinion of D.J. if he had displayed that sort of attitude right from the start?

Was D.J. a little bent out of shape because Ohio State didn't offer sooner? Perhaps. But I really don't think that he deliberately went through a charade just to "spurn" Ohio State. If that were his intention, then he would have dragged the drama out a lot longer than he did. As it was, the Nebraska rumors surfaced last week, and days later he was a 'Husker.

Did D.J. make a good choice? I don't know, but I truly believe that all Ohio kids should at least take a good, hard look at Ohio State before committing elsewhere, as "being a Buckeye" really does mean something after one leaves campus. But I suppose that "being a 'Husker" means a lot, too, if Nebraska is where one really wants to be....

I dont understand how anyone can come on campus as RECURIT. Get the love go to the new 21million renovated woddy hayes. Where there is nothing like it in the country .Walk over to the best stadium god ever created. And walk in that building on game day or not and say o my god. I would give anything to be a buckeye. I mean it really puzzles me when ohio kids go else where. No one has what we have at osu no one. And jts policy has always been if u want to play a positon. He will let u try it and if u can cut it there fine. If not he will put u where the team needs u. So for anyone to turn down wearing the scarlet and gray is just ridicul

Hello everyone.

This thread was linked on a Husker board and after reading through it I just want to compllement you all on your class in dealing with the twist and turns of DJ's recruiting process. I have visited many other teams boards when we get a recruit that they thoughs was "their" or that they had a great shot at and on most other board all you read is that he wasn't that great of a recruit in the first places. It is nice to see that fans can be disappointed about a recruits desision without having to "trash" the recruit for not choosing them.

Good luck this season and I'd love to see an NU-OSU series in the future and let's see if we can match up in a MNC game in the next few years:cool:

I'm not sure why he really wanted the OSU offer either and that is the only reason I can think of. There could have been other reasons but I would have thought that if he was almost a done deal to Nebraska he would have said something like "I'm happy to get the offer" or "I may take a visit" or something more nonchalant. Instead, he makes it seem as if he may not take any other visits, which seemed to imply that he was thinking about committing to OSU. In retrospect though it seems like this: He got the OSU offer, his dad admits it was "the one he wanted", and said he may not take any other visits. Seems now that OSU offer was "the one he wanted" so he could add it to his resume before committing to Nebraska. I do agree with you LJB in the sense that there may have been many reasons as why he did what he did but this is simply my theory. It's all good though no matter what his intentions were...Woods would have been nice but there is plenty more talent out there.

IMO he was just having fun while exploring the recruiting process. Some kids like to collect schollies and take all their visits.
He wasn't about to badmouth any schools so he tickled each in turn. In a way it is what makes the recruiting process and period so much fun. Not saying that anyone is but we shouldn't worry so much about who we don't get as to who we do get.

Mustangs' Woods picks Nebraska

Monday, July 30, 2007 Mike Peticca

Plain Dealer Reporter
Strongsville receiver D.J. Woods said Sunday night he has made an oral commitment to accept a football scholarship from the University of Nebraska.
Woods said he told Cornhuskers coach Bill Callahan of his decision Friday. Woods said he and his father, Derrick, visited the Nebraska campus "two or three months ago," and he, his father and mother, Kelly, visited last Thursday.
"I like the facilities, the academic center and the coaches," Woods said. "They look at me as a wideout, and maybe a punt returner. . . . Trying to find ways for me to make an impact."
