'08 OH ATH Johnny Adams (Michigan State signee)

Checked out his latest highlights, and I'd put him between Ginn and Breaston in explosiveness and elusiveness. Limited schollies or not, this kid needs to get a serious look...

I think the problem with Adams might be the same knock that Teddy is getting right now... Is he more than a returner? I know that Teddy is, but what about Johnny? More specimen than football player right now I'm told... I can't judge myself, because all I've seen is his highlight tape... But comparing Adams and Woods, I've heard that DJ is a better football player, just not as electrifying of an athlete...

Adams is tiny and doesn't have a big frame. He looks good on film, but I'm not sure if he gets an offer as a DB, and it looks like we're looking at bigger receivers (Tate, Floyd, Fuller etc) to fill a potential 4th receiver spot.

I guess we'll see at camp, but Woods was apparently pretty spectacular at the combine yesterday...more impressive than bigger names like Adams and Pead.

He's no smaller than Ginn was in high school at the same age. Then again, we all saw how Ginn's size kept him from being any sort of success in college and seriously hampered his NFL draft position...

The frame point is an excellent one westbuck... DJ is over 6' already, and has the frame to easily play between 190-200 lbs., which is excellent size for a CB... Johnny is listed at 6', but I'm not sure how accurate that is... He looks smaller to me...
I want to make sure that this isn't taking anything away from Adams... I like Johnny a lot... In a class that numbers 25, he'd be in IMO... But if we are only taking one CB, I'm not sure Johnny is it (for me at least)...

Saw Johnny in Cleveland yesterday. Not sure if he's the one to fill that spot, but he has definitely grown a bit recently.

Bill (Greene) mentioned this, and Johnny replied he had grown a few inches (6'), and was at 180 lbs.

Not being a smart aleck, but thus the "ATH" in the thread title. He seems like the kind of player you pick and then figure out later where to put him...that's exactly what the staff ended up doing with Ginn, who was the nation's #1 CB in high school but didn't play a single down on defense at OSU.

It really gets me sometimes how some folks (not you, OSUBucks22) get all wrapped around the axle over an inch or two and/or 10-20 pounds...it's all about physcial ability and future potential. If DJ happens to be the better overall CB prospect, then by all means the staff should offer...but, to me, that doesn't mean the staff should then stop considering Johnny for what he can bring to the field.

He is definitely a good prospect for the speed category...

IMO he's too explosive to put at DB. DJ seems like he'd be a better cornerback than Johnny based on size and frame. However, I'd take Adams any day of the week on offense. He has both the burst, wiggle, and top end speed that guys like Ray Small, Ted, or even Percy Harvin and Bush use to make explosive plays.

I agree with Mili. Just because we offer Woods doesn't mean we don't offer Adams.

If Deion Sanders wasn't too explosive to put at DB, I don't think anyone is.

I think I agree with Milli...Adams is so explosive that I just don't want to see us pass on him. He could very well be a CB and he could very well be a WR but he is definetly an ATH at this point. In the Cleveland combine report it mentions that Adams is 6'1 180 and is a big corner that schools would look for, so I wouldn't say height is an issue. Weight may be but if he is already 180 (if that's legit), then I say it wouldn't be.

After watching that video, I didn't see Ginn in those kick/punt returns. I saw Gamble. Kid can play, though I like him more at WR than CB. Love seeing him pull away from tacklers! But yeah- JA scream Chris Gamble to me on special teams and offense.

I wanna see these kids go up against each other in camp. I'd love to sort this offer out on the field rather than through the videos.
