'08 OH ATH Johnny Adams (Michigan State signee)

Film.

My take: Some of the worst film quality I've seen in a while...but Johnny's explosiveness comes through clear. The book on Johnny labels him as a "gamer" who wants the ball and always feels like he can make any play. Exceptional speed..but not "Ginn-like" as stated around the message boards. Johnny is a glider and seems like a very fluid athlete who can eventually develop into a solid player once he is given a single position. However, he has some work to do...

I'm one who is really hoping Adams gets an offer. Manningham doesn't have TG2 speed but he has a rare quality of making huge plays. I looked back through this thread, I think it said Adams had returned 9 punts for TDs before he even played his junior year. With over 20 scholarships tied up with DBs I could care less if Adams only returns punts and kicks.

An all-around threat, this Buchtel star is a quarterback, corner, receiver and returner
Thursday, August 23, 2007

If there were such a high school statistic as output per touches of the ball, Adams would have been one of the top producers in the state. Used primarily in the secondary and as a punt and kick returner, the 6-1, 180-pound senior who excels in the open field has a propensity for the ball and a nose for the goal line.

Consider this:

He caught 11 passes, four for touchdowns.

He intercepted six passes, returning two for touchdowns.

He returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns.

He threw one touchdown pass and scored three other times on reverse plays.

Adams' performance in 2006, supplemented by a 4.32 time in the 40-yard dash at a University of Akron camp, did not take college recruiters by surprise either. Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Illinois, Pitt and Akron have expressed strong interest in his defensive and kick-returning abilities.

When asked if he was leaning toward one school, Adams laughed and said, "No comment."

Over the last 10 years I have lived in Hudson, Stow, and now Cuyahoga Falls, all Summit County communities. Almost every year there is a Summit County player I hope gets an offer. Tyrell Sutton, and Bill Nagy come to mind. I guess Adams is my guy this year.

I think sometimes I get happier for an Ohio kid without an OSU offer, signing at a big school,... than I do with one that signs at OSU. Well, maybe not.. but anyways I'm excited that those that can't make it in to a class at tOSU still will get to have a great expirience. Great job by Dantonio so far

Congrats to Johnny on a big time play today vs Purdue. MSU struggling, up only 7-0 right before halftime, Johnny jumps the route and returns it for some breathing room, making it 14-0. They only won 21-0.
