'08 OH ATH Johnny Adams (Michigan State signee)

Reported a 2.8 GPA in that article. Lets hope that he can consistently improve that.

I think Adams is a player that could be one of the few speed prospects that we take next year...

I think he will be a guy that will get a long hard look at camp if he doesnt get an offer b4 then...

I speak to Johnny regularly, he said if he was to receive an OSU offer, he would probably wait two or three weeks, before he pulls the trigger. But if an offer were to come, he'd be there, without a doubt. I hope it does, Buchtel needs another player at tOSU.:osu:

Really like what little film I've seen on this kid. Ridiculous athlete with serious speed to burn. Put him at CB or WR, he could play either one. Ohio has kids with serious speed every year though. This year is no surprise. Every year Ohio has at least one kid with some serious wheels. 2004 you had Ted Ginn, '05 Jamario O'Neal, '06 it was Ray Small, '07 Brandon Saine. Could '08 be Johnny Adams?

And the beauty is... we have gotten every single one :). Johnny could take over for Ray after he does his thing at Flanker, ala Teddy, and heads to the NFL.

You should get most, if not all of them, you guys are the home school.

You guys didn't get Mario Manningham though thankfully.

The thing that sucks about Michigan high school football is that the state just does not produce skill players with serious speed that are somewhat advanced (Braylon and Shazor were a pair of great skill athletes but neither were polished at all coming from the PSL and all- Braylon came from the PSL, finished up at BGH) that often.

Last three kids that this state has produced that were on that level have all ended on a sour note. Those kids being Charles Rogers, Kelly Baraka, and Ronald Johnson. Rogers is very, very, very, very slow. Not trying to knock the guy or belittle him, but he definetly is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He did and still does have a very serious problem with a certain herbal drug as well. The main reason why he went to MSU was because of academics. Rogers was a partial qualifier at MSU and actually had to sit out his first year at MSU to focus on his studies and get qualified.

Kelly Baraka wasn't an uneducated or slow person like Rogers. He just lacked maturity, self-control, and plain old common sense. Baraka actually signed with Michigan but was kicked off the team after only one year. Baraka was actually faster than Rogers too, the kid was a serious burner with the potential to possibly run track professionally had he not chosen to stick to the football route. It was tragic that he got kicked off the team, but I cannot bring myself to feel sorry for the kid though after all the warnings and second chances he got. He had the same problem with that herbal drug that Rogers did, maybe even to a greater extent, but at the same time this kid knew better IMO, he wasn't a special needs kid like Rogers- he was a pretty compenent kid who just thought the rules didn't apply to him.

Fastforward to the Johnson recruitment. Well, that one has been well-documented on this board. Don't need to go into detail with that one.

So in-conclusion over the past 10+ years the state of Michigan has produced exactly 3 "Top 10 national prospects" who were all great skill position players. All three had certain issues, and we basically went oh-fer on all of them. Rogers signed with MSU, Baraka got kicked out of Michigan after one year, and Johnson just signed with USC.

One thing I respect about Ohio State is their ability to lock-up the players in their state. Very rarely does the state of Michigan produce great "Michigan/OSU calibre" players and when they do produce such players they need to lock them up. Carr does a great job locking just about everybody else up, but when you look at him batting oh-fer on basically the 3 best prospects this state has produced in over a decade, well that doesn't bode very well. Then throw the Dionte Allen fiasco ontop of it.

Ouch.
