Belton has led Northmont to a 5-1 record so far this season. Clay has thrown for 1,423 yards, 16 TDs with 7 Ints through 6 games of his junior season. Teammates with Buckeye verbal Kurt Coleman. Visited OSU for the Texas game. Clay is listing Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame and Texas.

I know Coach Schneider from Northmont. He said that Clay is an outstanding person and student-athlete.
That being said, I don't think that he has the tools that Chris Smith does. He has better size, but much less mobility and arm-strength IMO. He definitely is a smart kid, and that shows on the field. I always have a little question about Northmont QB's though. They run such a wide open system that it sometimes pads the stats. They will ususally get the label of "system QB's". I think he does have what it takes to play somewhere like the MAC or the Big East right now. This is just his first year as a starter as well. I think if he continues to improve next year, he may get solid looks from Big Ten schools. Clay is a big fan, and if we were to offer he wouldn't have to think it over for very long from what I'm told. If we take more than one QB next year, Belton may be the guy to take, as he is a risk/reward type of player.

I was at camp with him this past summer, and i was not overly impressed, obviously he was head and shoulders above the others (literally) but didnt impress me nearly as much as hartline did when he was a junior.

I have played against Clay and have talked to him before and he is a really cool guy. Also a big OSU fan. He is a good QB and a possible big 10 prospect. OSUBUCKS22 is right though the system does tend to blow up their stats big time. Don't forget he also has Watkins and Coleman to throw to. With all that said though hopefully he develops into an even better QB and can come here if we either miss on Smith or take 2 QB's.

Outlook: Northmont coach Lance Schneider's grandfather, Hank, and father, Mike, coached at Miamisburg. That doesn't mean his team will give the Vikings any special treatment. The Thunderbolts will pass, pass, pass with Clay Belton and mix in some running from A.J. Combest. Justin Watkins and a host of other receivers have shared the football. Defensively and on special teams, Kurt Coleman has helped Northmont put up some impressive numbers (averages of 33 points, 20 first downs, 355 yards for 211 yards against). The Vikings have played most everybody tough, but only have one win to show for it. Last week, Miamisburg had unbeaten Springboro on the ropes before the Panthers prevailed. QB Jason Williams and WR/DB Cody Blevins will try to keep up with the Thunderbolts.

Northmont (6-1) vs. Piqua (4-3)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Alexander Stadium, Piqua

Radio: WPTW-AM (1570)

2004 result: Northmont, 48-12

Outlook: Piqua is coming off an emotional 13-12 defeat of Troy, while Northmont trailed Miamisburg 14-0 before winning 28-14. Piqua (2-0) needs a win to keep pace in the GWOC East Division with leader Northmont (3-0). Big challenge for the Indians is to contain the Thunderbolts' offense that ranks fifth in GWOC in total yards per game (364). The T-Bolts defense is just as impressvie with a second-best 212 yards surrendered a game. Piqua's big-play, quick-strike offense churns out 290 and its bend-but-not-break defense allows 284. Northmont's A.J. Combest is one of the GWOC's top ground gainers. Piqua has two standouts in Brandon Saine and Kyle Blair. T-Bolts can strike through the air with QB Clay Belton (GWOC's top QB) hitting Justin Watking (GWOC's top receiver) and Andy Wittman. Belton will have to account for Piqua's Phil Collier, who leads the league in INTs. The T-bolts need a win to stay in the D-I, Region 4 playoff hunt. Northmont also needs to end strong with Wayne and Troy to follow.

I'm a very big Belton fan. Keep in mind he's only a junior. I'm not sure if he's OSU material yet or not (need to see a whole game tape or two), but he's definately got the physical part down already.

Big kid with a big arm and mobile enough.
