'07 OH QB Clay Belton (Miami of Ohio Signee)

Not sure if I saw that, but Belton makes no secret who his favorite is... All it will take is an offer.

Since he will be coming in when Zwick and Smith leave, we will have three QBs on schollie. How many QBs do you invision us picking up in this recruiting class and in your opinion, do you think that he will pick up the offer that he wants espicially with the current standing we have with Chris Smith?

Just my opinion, not anything other than that, I think we will only be taking one. We will have 3 on scholarship (Boeckman-Jr., Schoenhoft-So., Henton-RS Fr.-most likely), so bringing in one in 07 would give us 4, which I think is plenty. We are starting to get good spacing that will allow us to take one QB every year, which I really like.
I think offers for QB's won't come out until camp performances are witnessed. I think right now that Belton and Chris Smith may be the two most likely candidates (at least in-state). Nothing solid on this, but right now it looks like the staff seems to be more intrigued by Belton (again, JMO).

Belton and Smith are probably the 2most likely, only because those have relaly been the only ones disbussed. Once camp performances are evaluated and NLOI day is over for the calss of 2006, we will start to hear abotu other candidates I'm sure.

I think we could look OOS early and then go with one of the in-state guys during or after camp if the OOstater doesnt pan out.

Since JT has been at tOSU, historically camp performance was key for any QB target and after camp evaluation they will offer. Belton and Smith seem to be the main targets at QB at this point, but remember Henton came out of nowhere.

It'll be interesting how the QBs shape up next year. Remember this time last year we were wondering if we would offer both Miles Schlizter & Mike Hartline.....and we offer Henton (out of nowhere - I had never heard of him when we offered).

Another name to keep in mind is Mike Paulus (yes, Greg's brother). IIRC, there was a time when Greg was wavering on his Duke basketball commitment and looked some at ND and OSU. The word going around then was that Greg and his parents were very impressed with Ohio State (plus, the family is from Ohio originally). Of course, Greg decided to stick with basketball and Duke. Anyway, Mike is only going to play football in college and if his family still thinks highly of OSU..........

To keep this on topic, though, I know the staff really likes Belton, but I just wonder how he fits in at OSU. All the QBs I can recall Tressel recruiting, even back at YSU, had at least some ability to run the ball. There were some that were great runners (e.g., Ray Isaac, Trenton Lykes, Jeff Ryan, Troy Smith, and Antonio Henton), and others that showed that they could make plays with their feet if they had to (e.g., Mark Brungard, Demond Tidwell, Jared Zwick, Justin Zwick, Todd Boeckman, Joe Bauserman, and Rob Schoenhoft). Belton is very stationary and didn't show that he could do much running. That doesn't mean OSU won't offer him, it just seems he is outside the norm of the usual Tressel QB prospect.

Another great quarterback that Tressel had played was Craig Krenzel. The kid was certainly not afraid to run the ball when he needed to pick up yards. I know he wasnt recruited by Tressel, but if your statement is correct, Tressel played him because of this ability(and a few others:biggrin: )
