'07 OH DE Ben Martin (Tennessee signee)

For the life of me i cannot understand why Ben's mom would rather him go to ND. I realize they have a more prestigious academic heritage, but it is not like OSU is chopped liver, in fact i am sure we have quite a few areas and departments that simply blow ND's out of the water. But here is the trump card for me, Tressel vs. Weis. Coach T opitimizes everything that is great about college football and turning boys into men, etc. This type of mentoring is obviously not the intention of Charlie Weis.

Well, we don't actually know what these coaches say. Maybe Weis said something that really hit home with her. Maybe they have some special and unique bond. Who knows?

Good news. Thanks H&G and now I don't look like an over-optimitistic idiot:biggrin: . I was told the exact same thing about Ben just loving JT and not being overly impressed with Weiss. Actually I was told there is a good chance Ben will play some MLB this year so defenses just can't run away from his side, so it will be interesting to see how he does there.

It's not just recruits who come away from Weiss with that opinion. I know at least one Big 10 assistant coach who wouldn't mind taking out Charlie out behind the woodshed and beating some humility into him. :)

Seriously though if it comes down to Mama Martin making a decision about whom she'll place her son's welfare over the next several years, then I feel very confident with Coach Tressell being at the helm of the Buckeye ship.

It's more the idea of ND that Ben's mom is infatuated with... She's in love with the name, tradition, and the idea of Ben having an ND education. Get Ben, Coach Grippa, and JT in the same room with her, and she could change her mind...

I can not stand ND, but if my son had an opportunity to play there they would have to get strong consideration for the simple fact that ND is a great school, and has a great football tradition.

Here is a semi-tough question that I have. Hotmic it is obvious you have some very good resources as does H&G and several others on this board. From the sources you all have which update would you think is more accurate. H&G has been money with Cinci recruits. Hopefull this question comes out the right way and doesn't cause any conflicts.

Imagine him and Thomas lined up on either ends, we will have such a solid defense in the next 2 to 3 years. Ive said it before and ill say it again our team in 2007-9 is going to be exactly like the 2002 championship team. run run run special teams and a strong defense.

Craig, I think it isn't a matter of who is more reliable...but rather a question of WHEN the information was given to each of us. The news I shared was given to me by several VERY solid sources...but about 2 weeks ago. It seems as though there have been some big changes since then, because I compared what I had heard with several other insiders who all said they had heard the same thing as me.

That said, if H&G says something about a Cincy guy...you have to take that to the bank. It seems as though he talked to him quite recently as well. So again, I think this is more of a matter of when the information was received than anything.

I never said or though OSU was out of it, I just knew they had some ground to make up based on what I had heard.....and it appears that is just what they are doing. :biggrin:

hotmic gave the indicaiton that there was some good news regarding martin, then shortly therafter relayed other information that he had heard that would lend towards ND being in front. H&G now has some other news.
This is a classic example of a kid that is truly torn. There will be other ebbs and flows with this before it is all over. In a situation that seems to be rather dynamic, you can't really be miffed about someone giving info that is 10-14 days old that has become outdated that quickly.

Thanks HotMic for the great answer. I wasn't sure the best way to word the question. I wasn't trying to say who has the best source, but what information is most current and "close" to the source. Thanks again!!

Also, just for clairification I am not miffed at anyone or saying any information is bad. In fact I appriciate all the "inside" info that we get. I was just curious in this situation it seems like he is really torn and I am sure info changes by the day.

I always end my 'scoops' with 'take it for what its worth...'

I talked to my source last night over a few adult beverages. I pressed him as hard as I could to be as clear and as accurate as possible because, as I put it, "Buckeye Nation is hanging on every tidbit."

His reply: "If Ben has his way, he's going to OSU." Then he proceeded to give me the details that I shared with all of you. To those who question why Mrs. Martain is stuck on the whole ND thing, I did explain why earlier in this thread.

I trust my source because he sees Ben every day. I confirmed my source with osugrad and he knows it is solid...That being said, 17 year olds change their minds every day.

I'm still putting my faith and my money on JT with Mr. Martain...simply put, JT doesn't let the best players in Ohio go without a fight and ND hasn't had a presence in Cincinnati since Lou got whacked...that is a long time without saturating Southwest Ohio...Weiss has quickly earned a reputation in Cincinnati as being an arrogant jerk who rlies on flashing his Super Bowl rings on his fat fingers to get recruits...JT sells family with a warm smile and a handshake and a listening ear. Ben holds these values highly.
