'07 NY QB Mike Paulus (North Carolina signee)

Actually, Texas was telling Mallett all along that Chiles would never play QB while they were telling Chiles that he was a QB all the way and that he fits "the Vince Young offense perfectly". Mallett wasn't that happy when he found out and decided to "open up his recruitment". Well, Texas cameback to Mallett with an ultimatum (in large part because they were filling up quickly, they already have 17 verbal committs in a class that'll only hold 20-22 tops) and told him committ at the end of the week or we're moving on. Well, Mallett didn't committ and Texas offered Brantley.

I know that this thread isnt in the main forum for a reason, but one would think that since Michigan is making thier main target Mallet and Notre Dame Clauseen that if we were to show interest in him that we would quickly balloon to the top of his list.

I know we showed interest in his brother for football, so I wonder if we will try and get in this race.

A note from Mike Paulus

Losing Friday and then finding out that Coach Bunting wouldn't be returning to UNC next year has made the past couple days really tough. It was a very difficult phone call Sunday night when he called me and told me that the university had decided to go into a different direction. I never met a coach who loved and fought for his school more then he did.

Most people think I picked UNC because of my brother's location, that is the farthest thing from the truth. Nor did I base my decision totally on the success of the football team, which most people don't understand. I picked UNC because it offered a great education, a great area with lots to do, and because of the relationships I had developed. They surrounded me with an environment to succeed, along with an opportunity to compete as a freshman in one of the best conferences in America.

The next head coach at UNC is going to be a big named head coach and for that I am excited. Names like Butch Davis, Jimbo Fisher, and David Cutcliffe are leading candidates for the job, all have done amazing jobs at the highest level. Butch Davis helped sculped Miami into a powerhouse and created a dynasty of great players. Jimbo Fisher is an amazing Offensive Cooridator who lead the SEC in offense last year averaging over 400 yards a game. Coach Cutcliffe has coached both Peyton and Eli Manning, spent a short time with Charlie Weis at ND, and now is doing a remarkable job with his qb's and offense back at Tennesee. He is known as a QB guru.

As far as my committment stands, I plan on staying committed for now with a "wait and see" approach to who the new head coach will be. It is my understanding that it will be a big name coach, and I have developed very close relationships with the coaches on the current UNC staff, especially Coach Dave Brock (Ass. Head Coach/Wr Coach) and Coach Frank Cignetti (Offensive Co/QB's coach), what the new coach does with them will affect my final decision.

As soon as the news hit ESPN, I started to get calls and text messages from other schools. Ohio State, Tennessee, and Oklahoma all either called or texted me. Like I said, I will take a wait and see approach before thinking about visiting anywhere else.

Hope this helps you.

Mike Paulus, a quarterback from Syracuse, N.Y., will wait for UNC's next coach to be hired before making a decision on his future, according to his high-school coach, Joe Casamento. Paulus, another highly recruited player, wants to see how he would fit into the offense of the new coach. Ohio State and Oklahoma have told Paulus that they are interested in recruiting him if he withdraws his UNC commitment.
