'07 MI CB Ronald Johnson (Southern Cal signee)

I think they (UF) are about out of scholarships though. Even though it seems that the SEC has unlimited amounts every year.

They will take him no matter what...They will just tell someone that they signed early in the season that they can either greyshirt or go elsewhere...Exactally how these teams sign like 30/year...

Lose about 3-5 with academics 2-3 transfer, 2-3 kicked out of school and they end up with a class of 18 when all is said and down...Leaving room for 30 the next year as well...

W/o a doubt Ronald is a great player, and one who you find room for in your class, no matter what. Completely agree.

I don't. As a coach and a man, if you give an athlete your word that he can play for you, you must honor that word.

If that means having to leave out a RoJo, then so be it. As a coach, YOU have made a committment to every player that said he's gonna play for you.

Say that this year, we had an absolute # of scholarships already 'signed' IE verbal commitments. Then RoJo says he wants to play for the Bucks. You'd like to take him, but you already have a full group of kids who want to be Bucks. What do you do? Do you tell one of your kids to take a hike?

No way.

The way that whole '30 signees' thing works is wacked.

Interview with RoJo...he hopes to announce on the Sunday before NLOID at his church. He talks about his MSU visit and the in-homes he has had recently (which I think JT still has an in-home to use).

You're right BGriff! The SEC has unlimited schollies because they either have many kids that don't make grades (kicked out of school, free up last year's schollie), or they 'cut' a verbal when they get one better. If you look at the standings, the SEC wins every year (except when USC takes the max), because they put in 30+ (and count the points on everyone).

Now, someone with a better grasp of history than I (Wadc, Jwin, Mili et al) can look through and tell you how many of those 30+ are around in four years. (Plus, I'd like to know what their test scores are!).

Why this occurs without a big hubbub is raised I'll never know. Maybe it's the Southern code of silence - "Hey, we're not going to honor our verbal to you, and since it's so late, we'll get you in at XXX JC" or another university.

Nothing factual about this folks, but just my vituperation. Mods, move or destroy if you so desire.

Let's put it all into perspectice right now. I am not sure where the UF verbal rumors started, but it most likely had to do with the flight of UF1 to Muskegon. However, it seems all those who have received an official visit from Ronald think they have a legit shot once he leaves.

Yeah, Meyer flew up there and he probably wanted one last shot at RoJo's mother to try and convince her son to move south. Also, after taking the flight to NJ for Trattau and recieving his commitment, most Gators probably thought it was the same thing. And his commitment to UF just seems all too much like speculation at the moment, with no solid info. (BTW, they were only there for 3 hours vs. the stay in NJ for the whole day if you follow the link on flightaware.com above)

However, no updates from Ronald himself yet, and the anticipated decision of an announcement today never happened (like when Trattau did the day of Meyer's visit). I just can't see him annoucing to go out of state during church. It just doesn't add up to me.

We still have an in home this week with Ronald, and adding him to our offense would be amazing. If Tress & Co. can get through to him and his mother and show that there are 2 spots open at WR, and the fact we have have so many successful WR in the past and recently (with Holmes and Teddy 1st rounders the last 2 years)... I don't know what I would do. With that said, I expect scUM or MSU, but I hope he sees his chances at Ohio State to be unmeasureable. I think it all comes down to where on the field Ronald wants to play (CB for UM and UF, WR for tOSU, everywhere for MSU), with his relationship to the coaching staff also seeming to hold a lot of weight.

Who's who of coaches courts Muskegon star

Pete Carroll was at Muskegon High School on Monday, a fact that should make area residents proud and also leave them shivering in their boots (which they probably are already, anyway).
Carroll -- the head coach of Southern Cal, probably the country's top football program over the past five years -- was not here to try the luge or sneak a peek at the Muskegon Thunder training camp.

Continued...

Check out this beautiful quote:

But Ronald, do us all one small favor.
Anywhere but Ohio State.
