'07 IL ATH Bo Flowers

Interesting story... Bo was a 4-star Quarterback prospect coming out of H.S. in Illinois 4 years ago. He was drafted out of H.S. by the Detroit Tigers and signed with them. Now he is looking to play football in college somewhere. He had offers from Illinois, Arizona, Arizona State, Tennessee, Michigan State and Indiana the first time around.

By BK... Bo will be in attendance for The Game this weekend. He is considering tOSU, Illinois, and Wisconsin for college. tOSU is talking about QB or S for him. He will not be on scholarship wherever he goes, as he will pay his way with baseball money.

From his 2002 Rivals Bio:

A versatile prospect out of the Michael Vick mold. Passed for close to 1500 yards and rushed for close to 1000 yards last season. Father is coach at Walter Lutheran so Bo has grown up around the game.

Flowers is also a top baseball prospect with top-five round potential as an outfielder. He has indicated that he will only play baseball at Arizona State.

Interesting option for a QB in this class (without costing us a scholarship too)...

Seems like a can't-lose situation. He sounds like an elite athlete and has more maturity than kids coming straight out of high school. The fact that he's paying his own way means there is no downside at all.

The more competition the better.

This would be an idle situation for Flowers to walk into seeing how Troy Smith was recruited to OSU as an ATH and then molded into a Heisman candidate. Considering Troy Smith's progression and the possibility of moving into an undecided QB battle for one of the premier positions in college football next year presents a great opportunity. In fact coming out of HS he was ranked just 3 spots behind Smith on the Dual threat QB list. With him being the top ranked athlete in the tigers organization athletic ability shouldn't be a problem, it's just a matter of arm strength and vision on wether he's a QB or S. Can't wait to see how this one plays out, OSU has nothing to lose here.

It is my understanding that he could go on schollie if he wanted to, Right?

This would be a great way to bring in a kid and not have to use a schollie. I would imagine in a couple years down the road Tress would give him a schollie if he was making any sorts of contributions on the field.

Yes he could... There is nothing that would forbid him from obtaining one... Bo just might feel that that is extra incentive for a team to give him a chance...

He is a great type of kid that I would love to bring in here. If you look at a lot of the guys that go this route (Chris Weinke, Matt Mauck, etc.) they have that leadership quality since they are passed the college age and have played in a pro sport so they have grown up and can lead a team.

I have no problem in taking a 4 star player especially if he isnt going to take a ship...
