'07 FL WR Deonte Thompson (Florida signee)

You look at his measurables compared to some of the other top national recruits in recent years, and you gotta wonder whether or not he'll be in the top 10 overall prospects next season.

I think I read in an article recently about him that he scored a touchdown every 3 touches. You gotta liken the comparisons physically to Derrick Williams and Percy Harvin, but I think he's much more of a wide receiver than Williams ever was coming out of highschool. Not sure about Harvin, but I do know he's faster than both of them, and he's probably even faster than Ted ( Is that humanly possible? )

If I could have any 2 guys that have popped up on our recruiting radars for 2007, I would definitely have to say it would be Thompson and Oglesby.

of course he admits to being a gator fan.

he is also stating that depth charts will play a big role in his decision. This is where things can be problematic. osu's depth chart isnt like usc's, but it isnt bad.

while evreyone assumes tha gators have the inside track, i'm calling right now that miami is going to be the team that will be the one to beat. their wr depth chart is terrible. they didn't take any last year, and only one wr so far this year. he could very well make his way right into the starting rotation there, especially if miami strikes out on its remaining wr targets.

Thompson's coach is big on UF as he was a former Gator player. I would have to say Miami and UF are going to be tough to beat and I like our chances. UF will lose 3 starting WR next year (Baker, Caldwell and Cornelius) so the door is wide open.

even after taking 5 WRs so far this year and 4 WRs last year? I'm sure a couple of them have or will moved to different positions, but it sounds like the cupboards will hardly be bare at UF next year. Miami's depth chart at WR is MUCH more attractive at this point.

I agree. If his decesion is soley based on PT, he will go to Miami. However there will certainly be other factors.

agreed...he has stated numerous times that his family is important to him. I also think OSU has more of an advantage than any of the other out-of-state schools given the success Santonio had here. Deonte simply can't ignore that fact. If he does take all 5 visits, I would say that those will play a large role in determining where he ends up. But I agree with you that if there are two schools out in front, despite his declaration that he has no leader, it is probably UF and Miami...

With Coach Hazell recruiting him, I think are chances are as good as anyone, historically we have a good relationship with the school and the family ties do not hurt either. With his family being a major factor that will be a obstacle for Ohio State.

Coach Hazell is an excellent recruiter, Ohio State will have a good shot in my opinion.

If Teddy Ginn DOES in fact decide to leave for the NFL next year, I could not fathom a better player to replace him than Deonte. He very well could be the next Teddy Ballgame (unless Percy Harvin beats him to the punch...)

I think we stand as good a chance as anyone, especially with Dukes only being a sophmore next year, so he would be a junior if he decided to come here. They would have two years toghether and he has already seen what tOSU did for Holmes, a future first round draft pick.

If he is going a depth chart alone then UF would be out with the 9 WR's they have taken over the past two years.

If we take Chichester, Small, and Matthews/Lyons to go with Hartline and Robiske last year things arent so crowded.

UF took 3 WRs(Nelson, Boateng, Murphy) last year and 4 this year(Harvin, McDaniel, DWill, Fayson). On UF's roster, 3 departed this year, and at least 3 more will next year, and all 3 will likely be starters. So UF's depth at WR isn't so terrible, especially when most of the WRs have just as much to prove as the incoming freshmen. It's probably a bit too early to talk about depth chart yet, it's possible that young, new stars emerge from the benches.
