You know we would love to tell people every detail, but to maintain our relationship with Scout and Rivals, we have to leave a little to the imagination...

It would be nice if you left a little to the imagination like Hustler magazine does. Show it all!

Trust me, we would like to...we get stuff sent to us all the time that I would love to post immediately, but lots of time we are forced to keep things quiet. Anything that is sensitive that we do get the green light to post, we usually stick in the Rumor Mill (i.e. like the new one about Darren Evans).

sorry about that...back to Major...I think the UF visit will go a long way in determining where he ends up, but you have to like where we are positioned right now.

Just caught the highlights on ESPNEWS of the Class 5A State Championship STA vs. Lakeland. With 2:25 to play, Chris Rainey of Lakeland scored from 55 yards out to go up 35-14. Keep reading. STA scored on a QB keeper on 4th down with 1:47 to play (35-21), and then recovered the onside kick. Leonard Hankerson quickly took a pass down to the 2 yard line, leading to a TD on the next play with 1:28 left. 35-28. Another onside kick and another recovery. With 44 seconds left, Hankerson caught a TD pass from about 14 yards out, tying the game at 35. On to the second OT, Lakeland stops STA on 4th and goal on a VERY close call on the goalline to win 45-42, but the camera angle on the goalline was better than what I've seen from even the NFL. Rainey of Lakeland finished with 276 rushing yards and 3 TD's.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] Miami Gardens ? There had been so many improbable moments in the game already, St. Thomas Aquinas decided to try to get one more.

Instead, the Raiders came up inches shy of what could have been the biggest win in the school's history.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] Facing fourth down from the 1-yard line and trailing two-time defending state champion Lakeland by a field goal, the Raiders put the ball in the hands of Jeremiah Harden. Despite his best effort, the Lakeland defense stopped him just shy of the end zone, giving the Dreadnaughts a 45-42 double overtime win in the Class 5A state championship game at Dolphin Stadium.

Seconds after the play unfolded, Harden pounded his fist against the turf and his teammates, many of whom had tears streaming down their faces, watched the replay in disbelief.

"There was never any doubt we were going for it," said Raiders quarterback Wesley Carroll. "It was a well-designed play and everything was executed. In our point of view, it was in. The tough thing was how the official made a judgment."

Said Raiders coach George Smith, "We could have kicked a field goal, but we thought we had a chance. It was only a yard."

Lakeland, ranked No. 1 in several national polls including studentsports.com, extended its winning streak to 45 games and defeated St. Thomas for the third consecutive year in the state title game.

The win came despite a valiant effort by St. Thomas, which trailed 21-0 at the start of the fourth quarter. Then with 6:07 left in the game, the Raiders began chipping away when Harden scored the first of his four touchdowns with a 1-yard run.

Lakeland (15-0) responded with a touchdown that increased its lead to 28-7 when Paul Wilson scored on a 4-yard run. But Harden put St. Thomas right back in contention with a 72-yard run that made it 28-14 after Wes Byrum's extra point.

Lakeland scored again when Chris Rainey, the game's Most Valuable Player and the Dreadnaughts' star running back who all week was mired in an investigation as to whether or not he accepted gifts, scored his third touchdown of the night on a 55-yard run with 2:25 left that increased Lakeland's lead to 35-14.

Rainey finished with a game-high 276 yards on 26 carries, averaging 10.6 yards per carry.

Then came the unlikely plays. St. Thomas (12-2) scored two unanswered touchdowns, recovered two onside kicks and tied the game with 44 seconds remaining when Leonard Hankerson caught a 14-yard pass from Carroll, who played well despite missing last week's state semifinal with an injured shoulder.

It was the second consecutive week in which St. Thomas put together an impressive comeback. Against Bradenton Manatee in the state semifinal, the Raiders rallied from a 15-0 deficit to defeat Bradenton Manatee 36-29 in double overtime.

"This is a life situation for them," said Smith. "This is something they'll remember whenever they have a hard time. It will benefit them in the future."

In overtime, St. Thomas took its first lead when Harden scored on a 7-yard run. But Lakeland responded with a 2-yard run from Jamar Taylor.

Harden finished with 25 carries for 174 yards and four touchdowns.

St. Thomas had opportunities early in the game, but five turnovers led to the fourth-quarter deficit.

"We didn't play well early on and that's what put us in the hole," Smith said. "Rainey is what he is, and look what he did. We had him boxed in and he went up the field."

For St. Thomas Aquinas, safety Major Wright is being recruited by Miami, Southern California and Ohio State. Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson is considering Wisconsin and Miami.

CALMING VOICE

St. Thomas Aquinas offensive assistant Cris Carter knows what it's like to play under pressure.

A former NFL star wide receiver, Carter says he prepares his players for the pressure of a big game a little differently than most coaches.

''All players get nervous because that's just human nature,'' Carter said. ``Not all coaches like to address it, though. And you have to. That's what I do. I talk to them because I know what they're going through and I'm not going to be BS-ing them

Spin Job or not?

If it's from Mike Frank or the IrishEyes staff, it's always a spin job... The only in that ND has with Major is that 2 of his teammates from last year are there... And that isn't even that big of a deal...
I'm told to watch Miami now that Randy Shannon is there... They could get back in this race...

The article itself was by Baumhower and wasn't too bad of a spin job. I think ND fans are kidding themselves if they think they are really a part of the Major Wright sweepstakes. Many "in the know" say he is down to OSU and Florida with OSU having the edge after the Michigan game he visited for.

This is correct... If anyone gets back into this, it will be Miami, not ND...
