Washington looking at his options for college ball

<!-- begin body-content --> Latravis Washington never saw any of this coming.
The phone calls. The trips. The courting.
The amount of attention Division I programs are paying Washington is surprising to Bayshore's senior, who splits time between quarterback and defensive back. And he plans on taking some time before making a decision.
"I'm in an excellent spot right now," Washington said. "I'm so blessed. It's unbelievable."
So where will he go? Nebraska is an early favorite, Washington said Monday, but he still has to take trips to Ohio State, Michigan State and Florida State. Any one of those schools has a chance of usurping the Huskers.
"Absolutely," he said. "If I hear good things and I see good things, it could be a tremendous change."
The Seminoles and Huskers are looking at Washington, who plans on studying sports management, as a strong safety. The Buckeyes and Spartans are considering using him as a quarterback.
But geography may play a key factor in Washington's decision.
"The big thing about me is I want to get out of the state of Florida," he said. "I want to explore the world a little bit."
Washington will stay close to home Friday, when his Bruins host Lakewood Ranch at 7:30 p.m.

Bulldogs put away winless Bruins in second half

Bayshore scores first, but DeSoto responds with two touchdowns for a 14-7 halftime advantage before running away with a Homecoming game triumph, denying the visitors their first victory of the season.
BY CURTIS WILLIAMS CORRESPONDENT

ARCADIA -- Bayshore High had good intentions of slowing the DeSoto High rushing attack Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Putting nine defenders at or near the line of scrimmage, that strategy worked early in the game, but the Bulldogs dominated the second half and cruised to a 33-14 Homecoming victory over the Bruins.

"Overall, this was a great win for us offensively and defensively," DeSoto coach Gary Morton said. "The defense played great except for two plays and our offense controlled the tempo of the game the entire second half."

Bayshore (0-5) opened the scoring on a 76-yard touchdown pass from LaTravis Washington to Marquis Murray. Josh Smith's kick gave the Bruins a 7-0 lead with 8:11 remaining in the first half.

DeSoto (5-2) responded with two touchdowns of its own to take a 14-7 lead at the half. Junior quarterback Shay Shine scored on a 4-yard run and also hooked up with his brother Sheldon on a 15-yard scoring strike.

The Bulldogs turned in one of their best drives of the season to open the second half. DeSoto drove 65 yards in 12 plays, taking more than seven minutes off the clock. Senior Bryan Wyrick's 2-yard run gave the home team a 21-7 lead.

Bayshore responded with a four-play, 61-yard scoring drive of its own to get back within a touchdown of DeSoto. Dino Solomon did most of the damage for the Bruins with a 56-yard run and also scored from 3 yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter.

That would be as close as the Bruins would come to their first victory of the season. The Bulldogs put the finishing touches on an impressive victory when Emmanuel Wiley recovered a Bayshore fumble in the end zone and V.C. Hollingsworth scored on a 16-yard run.

The Bulldogs tallied 21 first downs and 299 yards of total offense. Bayshore managed just five first downs and 173 yards of total offense.

Senior J.J. Peterson led the way for DeSoto with 63 yards rushing on 14 carries. Wyrick was next with 10 carries for 52 yards. Shay Shine completed 5-of-8 passes for 72 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Sheldon Shine caught two passes for 34 yards.

Solomon paced the Bruins with 85 yards rushing on nine carries. Washington completed 4-of-13 passes for 102 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Murray had two receptions for 91 yards.

DeSoto returns to action with a must-win district game at Sebring on Friday night, while the Bruins travel to Northeast for a district game Thursday night.

Time to move the thread?

No, not yet. Apparently, LaTravis is still scheduled to make an official visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game. If that visit gets cancelled and not re-scheduled, then I think that it would be safe to assume that there is no mutual interest.

I agree with Wes that Terrelle Pryor (class of 2008) is a better QB prospect.

LaTravis has Nebraska on top, with Ohio State and West Virginia behind them. Likes the city of Lincoln... they enjoy their football and not many distractions. Notes that he has 3 INT as a Safety this year so far and expects to play SS at the next level.
