Academics---check.
Tradition---check.
Relationship w/ coaches--check.
Setting---check.

Academically, USC's Dental school isn't as good as ours. And as far as USC's setting is concerned, Kris said it himself when he said about tOSU's setting "The environment is awesome. They get 100,000 fans at their place. They get 60,000 for a spring game. How can you beat that?"

If he goes to USC, I will be befuddled, because he just seems like a perfect fit for our team/community. I know that the back2back titles made USC popular, but we seem custom made for Kris.

Can only sit back and hope now.

Hoping Kris comes to :oh: :io: and stays!!

As grad said earlier, we really need to show him the love when he comes for his official... USC has tons to offer in their own right, and no one should be befuddled if Kristofer were to deem them the best choice for him...

A rivalry for the ages, just not this one

Salpointe-Cienega a classic, but 'doesn't make any sense'

High school football doesn't get much better than tonight's epic showdown between Salpointe Catholic and host Cienega.
The game of the year. The rivalry of the decade. The city championship. The best of the best.
Call it whatever you want. Just make sure you enjoy it while it lasts.
"For the purists of the game, for the fans in Southern Arizona, this is as good as it gets. The atmosphere is amazing," Cienega coach Nemer Hassey said of today's 7 p.m. clash. "It feels like a semifinal playoff game, but it doesn't count for anything. The game doesn't make any sense."
And, thus, one of the state's best rivalries appears on its way out the door almost as quickly as it captivated the local high school football community.
Class 5A-I Salpointe, one of the pre-eminent teams in the state's highest conference, and 4A-I power Cienega have every superficial reason to treat fans to a classic game each year. The only problem is that it isn't sensible in the bigger picture.
Here's why: The winner of tonight's game gets a boost in confidence and in the win column. But, more importantly, the victor gets penalized in the power-point ratings — the system that determines who goes to the state tournament and who doesn't.
"This is the bottom line: If Salpointe beats Cienega, we get no points, but our nine other opponents get five bonus points. I just don't get it," Salpointe coach Dennis Bene said. "If you win, it looks good. But I also just gave Sunnyside and Mountain View five points. It's a lose-lose situation."
State officials in Phoenix voted some time ago that any team that plays outside of its conference should not be rewarded in the power ratings. It makes sense in the greater Phoenix area, where 46 schools in either 5A-I or 5A-II have ample selection to fill their schedule with like-sized teams.
But in Southern Arizona, where only six 5A schools exist, scheduling a 4A team is often necessary to fill the 10-game slate. That means local teams — like upcoming opponents Sunnyside (5A-II) and Sabino (4A-I) — have their playoff hopes slightly hindered when they play.
"I could see penalizing a 5A team for playing down to 4A, but holy smokes — how do you penalize a 4A team for playing up?" Bene wondered. "They should get bonus points."
District athletic directors are the ones responsible for scheduling nonregion games. Coaches put in requests in the winter for games they would like to play the following season. From there, it is largely out of their hands.
Neither Bene nor Hassey — friends for several years — requested the Salpointe-Cienega game. That doesn't mean the teams don't care who wins.
"I've been geared up for this game pretty much all summer," Salpointe star offensive lineman Kristofer O'Dowd said. "Last year they beat us on a goal-line stand. This year they are going to lose by quite a few points. I have total confidence in what we can do as a team."
And the power points mess? It's hardly a thought in the players' minds.
"We don't worry about that stuff," said Cienega senior defensive end Devin Ballesteros. "We focus on our jobs and playing the game. Let the coaches deal with the rest of it."

While I agree that he would be a great fit at OSU the USC school of dentistry is highly regarded on the left coast. Most of the better dentists in Southern California with whom I am familiar graduated from USC or Loma Linda, both of which are excellent. OSU has many advantages not the least of which is that USC's surrounding neighborhood is fairly bleak and crime infested, yet somehow USC seems to sell itself as being insulated from all of this.
