'06 TX QB Sean Hakes (Akron signee; transfer to Orange Coast CC)

Nice vid. Looks to me, from what I could see on the vid, he's got a good play fake. What's him arm strength? COuldn't get a good feel for it. He certainly isn't affraid to tuck the ball and run, and it looks like he's got excellent vision when he does.

I also Like the fact that he's a QB who can hit people.

I agree wholeheartedly. Sean seems tough as nails, which will help in the power B10 football conference we are in. The hits he made at safety solidify it. He also is a lefty, which I didn't know before, and I like. For some reason lefties seem more smooth when they play (although that isn't one of the main reasons I want him in Columbus). Sean does like to run, but it is different when you can run as well as he does. Troy runs a lot, and that seems to be more of the mold of QB we are headed towards. He has the height to play bigger too. A 4.6-7 forty QB would be deadly... as we all saw what athleticism at QB can do for a struggling offense looking to find an identity. I haven't seen film on Mike Hartline, Schlichter, Davis or Kirbus... or any QB we are looking hard at for that matter... but Sean seems top-notch material to me. Hopefully Tressel extends him an offer and hopefully he will accept it. I want him in the Scarlett and Gray. He and Robbie will be some duo to compete with, and I look forward to the battles they will endure.

Great Video!

I am glad we could all come together and get it posted for everyone on this site. I think I can speak for many when I say that if there is 1 uncommitted player that I hope gets to be a part of the tOSU family it is Sean Hakes.

If you get the chance get over there to Sunshinepreps, and let those guys know how interested you are and how much you appreciate that site. It will only help us to bring in more videos and interviews in the future....

Here is the interview that was posted:

As promised, SunshinePreps (Texas Style) will bring you a first look at a big time prospect out of Nolan Catholic High School. This 6'3 1/2" southpaw shows off his ability in this video clip you will see here first. We also spoke with him a short time ago and will let you in on his colleges of choices and other thoughts.

SP: Tell me what is was like winning a state title.

SH: It was great. I was my first year with the team since I transferred in my Sophomore year. It was a great experience, like I have never had before.

SP: Are you from Texas?

SH: I am actually from Ohio.

SP: What schools are you interested in?

SH: I am keeping my options open but I do like the Big 10. Michigan, Ohio State, and Illinois.

SP: What in-state schools do you have in your top 3?

SH: I like Texas because they did not sign a QB last year. Like A&M because they are an elite team. I like Tech's offense as well.

SP: And what about your top 3 out-of-state schools?

SH: Michigan is a solid #1. After that I like Illinois and Ohio State about the same. I like Zook and his staff and I have always been a Buckeye's fan being from Ohio.

SP: What are you doing to prepare for next season?

SH: Just working hard. I run a 4.7 and I am trying to lower it to 4.6. I am also taking the SAT on March 14th so I can get the early qualifying score. My GPA is 3.2.

Sean

It is the regional elite 11 camp which is before they select THE elite 11. Krenzel is someone he models his game after... just imagine him in 3 years plus 20-25 lbs and 1 inch (he doesnt even have facial hair right now except a few hairs on his chin) i know im biased but i think he's is going to be something special.

Thanks

I hope so too... hopefully the coaches will feel the same way and everything comes together. These next few months will be very busy for Sean. HE's very excited to be going up to Columbus for spring practices in April where he can meet the coaches and hopefully begin to build a relationship with them and begin to get comfortable with them.

Newest picture of Sean is attached he has really been working hard to get into tip top shape for the camps.

in case anyone missed it, there is a great interview of Sean posted in the blog section:

20 Questions with Sean Hakes

also, I watched Sean's video today for the first time for our film evaluation blog and I was impressed with Sean's video more than any other QB not named Tebow. Richardson's video is slick, but more because of his pure athleticism. I also happened to really like Adam Weber's video, although the difference in competition between Sean and Adam is obvious. Count me in as one of the people hoping Sean shows well at the camps this summer.

Why the heck does a Buckeye fan have Michigan as a solid number 1...I know maybe that they are giving him the most attnetion and stuff but like I know that I for one would never even think about Michigan more than about how much I hate them. I think it would be great if Hakes became a buckeye and I'm not ragging on him I'm just wondering...seriously...why does he like michigan that much?

If you read some of the earlier comments by SHAKES2003 he said that Michigan has been sending him tons of love for a while now as they had witnessed his talent, whereas tOSU was withholding judgment until they had seen his tape. Plus Michigan is the typical "send tons of offers" school whereas tOSU only sends offers to those they feel they can bring in. And with the talent in Ohio and others that are interested in tOSU this year, they can't offer this guy that early. Expect the tone to change after the tOSU camp if he can maintain the level seen on this tape.
