'06 OH ATH Derrell Johnson (Iowa Signee)

He would easily jump up to Chris Wells status in my eyes if he grey-shirts. I'm curious if any player has before turned down an offer from a team in the NC game the previous season to grey-shirt to a school.
Although my extreme amounts of respect perhaps isn't his top concern :wink2:
There is no player left on the board now that i'd rather see end up successful.

terry glenn was a walkon due to academics, apparently.

There are also rumblings that the not everyone on the staff is sold on Johnson's abilities, and from what I've read recently the whole staff has to agree before a kid is offered.

Following his heart, trying his best to make the one team he really wishes to play for, the only one he ever really cared about. Spurning 5 offers from D-1A schools to to do this is Derrell.

This shows such integrity of personal vision on his part. You simply have to pull for a kid with the backbone to walk away from the easy road, keeping to the harder path because it takes him where he wants to go.

When he gets to the Shoe and actually makes his dream real I hope the fans break out into the second part of "Fearless" by Floyd -- the part that has the "Kop Choir" singing "Walk-On ... for you'll never Walk Alone."

what i don't understand is if he can gain admissions to walk on why can't he gain admissions for a scholie? i mean if his academics were inorder he would be getting a scholie from osu right? i guess it is a show us you are serious and then you will be rewarded

Per a post on BN from HH, it is not grades...it is a numbers game...as in too many people and not enough 'ships to give.

To my udnerstanding, we have 3 more to give with Chichester out. Unless the staff only wants 2 WR... and McDaniel is looking to good to them.... that is the only thing I could uderstand.

However, if everybody on staff is not sold on Derrell, then that is also something to take into account.

You are correct that we have 3 ships to give. If indeed HH is right and it is a numbers game, then that would mean that the staff feels that we will get Grant, Peters, and McDaniel/Matthews, then wouldn't it? Would seem logical to me... Again, this is if HH knows for sure, which may not be the case (staff or contacts may not be telling the real reason)...

I have us with 2 ships left to give, but I count both Pretorius (the likely starter next year) and Pettrey (supposed to be a scholarship player as of this month) as scholarship players. If that's true, then I see us getting L.Grant and one more TBA... which apparently Tressel feels pretty confident about if he's not going to offer DJ based on numbers...
