'06 OH ATH Derrell Johnson (Iowa Signee)

The unfortunate truth is (and I say "unfortunate" assuming that this young man wanted but looks as though he will not recieve an OSU offer) that several very fine athletes work extremely hard both on the field and in the classroom in hopes of being offered a scholarship at Ohio State (and many other top Universities) every year. But Coach T and the staff have to fill a very limited number of spots, weighing several factors and that will always leave some kids on the outside looking in.

I feel badly, especialy for those who did everything they could on their end and truly wanted to be Buckeyes, when one or more of these young men that we've "gotten to know" (a few RBs come to mind from last year) ends up not getting the offer they worked so hard for, but that is just how it works and I'm sure it is one of the more difficult aspects of a job that Coach Tressel has done very well in my opinion.

Good luck to Derrell where ever he may end up (especially if it would have somehow worked out to be @ tOSU :wink2: )

it now looks like that if a kid is a risk at all not to qualify or looks like they might have a problem while at OSU..will not be offered..Chichester and now maybe Johnson won't be given the chance to get grades where they need to be before the season begins....this does make me feel good about Gibson and Small that they seem to be ok

me too..would have been a nice late addition to the class..but if you notice under tressel there have been very little players getting kicked out b/c of academics..i think underwood and maupin are the only 2 recently..so Tressel is looking for sure things in recruits when it comes to academics..which is good too..hope johnson can catch on..looks like a tremendous player

Wow... thats a tough one. Like everyone else on here, I want what is best for the kid. If that means he wants to walk on, despite offers from Miami, USC, and other high profile schools, then what a great Buckeye he would make!

Scarlet & Grey or not, I will always root for this kid, no matter where he does.

what i don't understand is if he can gain admissions to walk on why can't he gain admissions for a scholie? i mean if his academics were inorder he would be getting a scholie from osu right? i guess it is a show us you are serious and then you will be rewarded
