'06 OH ATH Derrell Johnson (Iowa Signee)

Word is he will be on campus this weekend for a sit-down with the coaches and admissions people to find out where he stands...

Nevada has said that for a while now...DJ is bringing all of his transcripts and test scores so admissions can tell him exactly what needs to be done to get him on campus. According to NV, there is a good chance he gets in...

Well that's great affirmation for the person that I heard it from then... I always love hearing that NV is stating the same things I am hearing... :)

Johnson will most likely not sign on LOI day. Johnson will not go the prep school route and will sign after LOI day if he has to. Ohio State, Cincinnati, Syracuse, West Virginia, and North Carolina are his schools of interest. He has no official visits scheduled.

(In a holding pattern at this point, waiting on admissions...)

For some reason, this kid reminds me a LOT of David Mitchell from the late 90's-2000? Just the way he's being recruited and how he's pretty much the purest brand of athlete with no distinct position.

Anyone remember that game where the Bucks had 3 defensive td's in the 1st quarter...Mitchell with two of them and I believe they got excessive celebration on all three? It was insane. :)

after asking permission from the poster himself, I have this nugget to pass along from MCORF (BN$ poster who is close to the Derrell situation):

Based on his academic performance in the first half of 2005, he expects Johnson to qualify by June.

at that point they might as well grayshirt him...I doubt he would be able to come in and help the team if his first college experience in practice wasn't coming until June. the only reason that concerns me is because of how few schollies we will have in next year's class. hopefully we get Small, Gibson and Grant in and bank the rest. then there might be one for DJ as well.

I must be missing something. Unless they enroll early nobody gets any college experience until August, do they? I don't think the incoming Frosh even participate in the ;optional' 7 on 7s.

Asking a kid to grayshirt is a pretty big request and doesn't really help the numbers problem next year za that is the class his schollie will be coming from anyhow.

Most of them come in early in the summer...and a lot of them are given workout regimens to begin during their Spring. DJ would be missing out on a lot of stuff if he wasn't enrolling until June, and even now we're not sure how likely that is.

After watching his videos, I am impressed by his feet the most. They never stop moving and that is something all great players have. When reviewing his film, obviously the majority of it is at the QB position, being projected as a WR in college, I was looking for the ability to make plays with the ball and the ability to make people miss and he definetly has those abilities.
