'06 NJ DE Johnnie Troutman (Penn State signee)

MD DT Phillip Taylor is visiting Maryland this weekend, and should have a decision next week sometime about whether to attend PSU or MD. He is rumored to be a heavy PSU lean at this point...
This can only help us with Johnnie. I'm told not to overlook the Hoos on this one though...

This may not be totally correct. Based on the visits lately, the focal point of posters seems to be on skilled players (maybe just because there seem to have been a lot of surprises, and that's what guys like us focus on), particularly at the positions where 3 jrs. just declared for the draft. Holmes was pretty much a given, but DW & AY seem to have sent things reeling a bit. I'm sure the staff is giving as much attention to the positions of need (ie DL) as it was prior to all of the excitement surrounding these last minute visits / commits - people on the message boards may not be however. I hope this is the case, as I feel DL is ciritcal with this class.

Troutman:

Wasn't there a rumor about a commitment from a junior on signing day in a couple of weeks? If what you say about the staff putting Troutman on the back burner is true. Do you all think that the DT from Michigan (Barksdale) might just be that recruit? I am only speculating. I would love to have Troutman. From everything that I have read he would be a great get.

From Scout.com...Johnnie visited Maryland over the weekend. He rates his visit to OSU and PSU as the best and Maryland close behind. He will take one more visit to Virginia next weekend.

I just don't think you pass on a talent like Troutman at a position of need to get a kid for the 2007 class. A lot could happen between now and next February 2007. And who knows what could happen over the next year with whatever 2007 D-Line recruit would happen to commit to us on National Signing Day 2006.

You take talent when you can get it. Period.
