'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

I really want this kid as much as I would like to see Wells. Have you guys seen the frame of this kid and his size. Good god! He looks like he is going into his rookie season in the NFL not his Freshman season at hopefully OSU.

Ashley back on the road: The battle for four-star defensive tackle Walker Ashley does not appear to be any more decisive than it was going into the holiday season. The top player from the state of Minnesota has already made visits to Minnesota, Ohio State and Southern Cal while still having visits set up for Oklahoma and Penn State.

Ashley's father was a standout player at Penn State for Paterno in the early 1980s and it might be too difficult for Walker to say no to the opportunity to play for the same coach as his father. Currently, the 283-pounder lists Ohio State as his favorite school.

Ashley said today-

"2. Ohio State: I really like everything about Ohio State, but when I sat down and thought about everything, I was concerned about the violations. I really don't know what to think about Ohio State until I hear what the NCAA says about all of the allegations. They are doing a great job recruiting and also told me that I have a great opportunity to come and play next year, so that stays in my head. They are the only school recruiting me as a defensive end which I kind of prefer, so that is a huge plus. The only thing that concerns me right now is the allegations, there is a dark cloud looming and I just want to know the verdict of the issues."

MAN you just have to really get pissed at Clarrett and ESPN.

This bull that is swirling around Ohio State is completely arbitrary. The press is reporting recanted statements as facts, and arrests (convictions aren't as important) as part of some grand rogue program. Could they have picked a program led by a man with more integrity than Tressel? No. This really pisses me off.

It isn't Ashley's fault that he thinks about these issues. It is ESPN's and the NYT's fault for butchering an undeserving college.

According to todays Minneapolis Star Tribune some of our coaches visited Walker on Wednesday. Here is the quote from todays paper.

"Ohio State coaches were at Eden Prairie High School on Wednesday, continuing to recruit defensive lineman Walker Ashley. Bad timing, considering Ashley is also interested in Southern Cal? "This might be the best time for them to come in," Eden Prairie coach Mike Grant said, "so [Ashley] still keeps them in mind." Grant said Ashley is also planning to make a recruiting visit to Penn State. The final five, Ashley listed recently, also included Minnesota and Oklahoma."

From Rivals:

Things change: The continuing saga of the recruitment of Walker Ashley has taken another turn after Minnesota's top high school player has had a change at the top of his list of favorite schools. Ashley had been favoring Ohio State until he "shut down" his recruitment for the holidays, but now Southern Cal has taken a lead for the four-star defensive tackle.

The Buckeyes have slipped to second for Ashley, while Penn State has moved into third and seems to be gaining favor.

"I really want to talk with Derrick Williams or Justin King before my visit so I know what their thoughts are about the class and the future", Ashley said."Also, my dad [Walker Lee Ashley] played for Coach Paterno and I have loved Penn State since birth", he said. "I have always loved Penn State and I have always wanted to play for them, so I am really looking forward to my visit on January 14th to Happy Valley."

Why does this not surprise me? Walker seems to change his mind about where he thinks he would like to go every week, which is understandable. I would still not be shocked to see him end up at PSU.
