'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

What suprises me is how hard they were recruiting him last year if he had grade problems, b/c they were being very selective as kids with borderline grades, they just didnt recruit.

It is also easier to get into tOSU in the winter quarter, so if he could go to a community college for a quarter and then try and enroll in the winter he could get in. I am sure Tressell would monitor the situation like the back of his hand, watch his grades and then offer him a ship for next year.

That would make him the dt tackle recruit we are looking for.

I heard from a friend who was at his buddies house while they were online checking internet message boards, and he said he saw somebody quote a reliable source who said he talked to somebody that saw Walker signing up for classes for the Winter.
BN27.....this situation with Walker is for real, now if he actually gets into Ohio State is another issue all together.

It is being reported that some of the problem revolves around Petey wants Ashley on the O-Line and Ashley wants nothing to do with it.

I find it to be kinda funny how that was a rumor flying around throughout the last several months of his recruitment, yet whenever Ashley brough it up, Carroll denied it and said he'd be playing DLine with a chance to play right off the bat.......

Hopefully other recruits notice stuff like this.

I read back through 20+ pages of this thread and didn't see it, so I'm sorry if I missed it. But, does anyone know if he ever re-took his ACT? The last scores I saw were 19 ACT and 2.63 GPA. Are these good enough to get past admissions at OSU?

i think those are usually good enough for the clearinghouse. it's probably a core course issue though. he may not have taken enough of them or has too low of a GPA in them. if it's a numbers question, all he would have to do is take some at a JUCO and should be admitted in the winter (known lower admissions standards). but if its a core GPA issue, it may be a little harrier.

This is the 3rd instance I can think of where Carroll has been caught misrepresenting the truth to recruits. (Lie seems just a little strong)

1) The widely documented saga of Fred Davis moving to tight end.
2) Carroll knew Norm Chow was leaving to Tennessee before signing day last year but had Chow keep it under wraps, not to risk Mark Garcia and others.

USC has become such a glamour team that a lot of kids will turn a deaf ear to this stuff. However, I'm sure he'll eventually lose a few kids because of cases like these. These stories are not tightly held secrets. I'm sure competing schools will use it against USC in the future. In fairness to Carroll, he's not the only guy out there using these tactics. Doesn't make it right though.
