'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

Ashley had an inhomes with Petey and 3 or 4 assistants on Monday and with Coach D. Tressel and Coach Heacock on Wed. Petey sold him lack of depth at DT and the chance at early PT next year. The Coaches for tOSU have been very professional throughout the whole process. Coach Paterno will be in on Friday. USC leads slightly in a 3 team race between tOSU, USC, and Minny.

If he is convinced that he can get early playing time at USC, he is all but gone. We cannot give him that, our DT depth is probably tops in the country.

I thought we had a good chance with him wanting to play DE and us at least offering that. I also thought he was heavily interested in playing the Big10.

JoePa is due in for a visit today. He spoke with Pete Carroll and asked him about the rumors of being moved to the OL. PC said he had no idea where those rumors came from but it was not in the plans. However, Walker still had some doubts about the truth behind that rumor. When asked about a decision, Walker replied,

I have to admit that I am pleasantly surprised by that statement. This seems to be a case of a kid who is genuinely unsure of where he wants to spend the next 3-5 years.

Wow, thats a totally different story. How can these guys get totally different takes on the situation?? Whats funny is the first update showing USC as the leader was from BN, not an SC site and the second update showing OSU as the leader was from BWI, a PSU site.

I am really cornfused now....

That was before he got the bad vibe from PC about the OL rumors...

it would be hilarious if he did choose osu because of this. those rumors were started by usc fans when discussing DT depth after Gabe Long committed.


the way this kid changes leaders, osu being his #1 choice right now means little to nothing

At the end of the day USC is a long way from home for this young man. California is a very different way of life for anyone moving there from the Midwest and can be a tough change. I hope he recognizes the superior family enviornment at Ohio State and the life long commitment from the Alumni/Fans. I really hope he sees the bigger picture. Lets wish him the best regardless of where he chooses.
