'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

To bad, but we still have Todd Denlinger.
I'll second that. People forget about Denlinger because he is an in-stater and he committed relatively early. I never expected to get Ashley, althought OSU put forth a very good effort. Hell, we did get a linebacker out of Minnesota, which is pretty good for us.

I don't think it is over yet. There is still a good chance he could change his mind. Remember at one point we were his favorite then USC then Us with PSU second and now we are third, well we could easily become the favorite again. Especially if USC signs Udofia and passes on Ashley.

It sounds like they want him for offense and not d.

I thought I read that he considered PSU as his second favorite behind USC and that he gave PSU a 25% chance (by the way, these percentages used by recruits are ridiculous). If this is the case, why would anyone think that he would come to OSU? Assuming that these were his comments, I think he's Ghandi.

In the Scout article, he does not even discuss tOSU because he was not asked about us. He talks about his PSU visit and USC as his leader. In the BN article from the same day, he states USC has a slight lead over tOSU.

Walker gives his final 3...USC is #1 followed by Minnesota and OSU, who are tied. He loves everything about USC. However he calls USC's lead "slight". He is going for another unofficial visit to Minnesota next weekend. He feels like he could play there right away. Regarding OSU, Walker says he has loved the Buckeyes since he got his first recruiting letter from them. They have never showed any reservations toward Walker as a player and he appreciates that. Worthington and Laurinaitis have been talking to him a lot and he has hit it off them. Finally...

"I am really excited about Ohio State and the recruiting class they have coming in is FOR REAL!!"

Penn State has been eliminated. He just didn't have a good vibe after his visit there.

Mason is obviously putting on the fullcourt press...Ashley and Daniels would give Minny two great players on D who could probably help immediately. I still think USC has too much of a lead with Walker...plus, although he has changed his leader numerous times, USC has spent more time out in front than anyone else and as we near NLOID, they are still ahead. If Laurinaitis and Worthington can get him to come to Columbus, that would be fantastic...

I was pretty sure Penn State would bite the dust. Talk about Old School for a young kid. Dad's old school and the oldest coach Walker's probably ever met.

I'm not particularly bothered by the additional trip to Minny. If he knew he wanted to go to tOSU, you know he would make the pilgrimage to Minny just to satisfy Mom. That's what he did for Dad at PSU.

So I still think it's between tOSU and USC and I bet it's tOSU. Columbus is much closer to home. I know the plane ride's only a couple of hours longer to So Cal, but Columbus is at least in the Mid-West and the Big Ten, where Mom and Dad can see him play PSU and Minny just about every year and get to his Home and In-Conference games very easily. It's a nice compromise when Mom wants you close to home and Dad wants you at his rapidly deteriorating alma mater.

I've squandered all my v-bucks on the Great Gwaltney debate or I'd be tempted to lay some off here. (Can we spend our chiclets?)

I think that one factor that is working against us that nobody is talking about is the weather. I think that I saw in one of the updates after his PSU visit that he said how he didn't like the fact there was snow on the ground in happy valley, as part of this quote he compared the snow to the Beach. I think that Minnesota is out off it. I think he is just visting them this weekend so he can help his teamate decide if Minnesota is right for him. Plus Walker said that he enjoyed his visit to Minnesota the best so maybe he just wants to go and have some fun this weekend.
