'06 CA RB Stafon Johnson (USC signee)

As already said, Tom Luginbill said on the College Football Coach's Show (or something like that) on ESPNU that Stafon was very high on tOSU. He mentioned that he believed that USC was the leader, but that tOSU had a very legit shot at him. Whether we get him or not, I thought it to be very interesting that a national media guy stated that in a recent interview he did with the kid, that tOSU was very high on his list. That would be a hughe coup for the Bucks if we can get Mark and Stafon Johnson (any relation?).

The best thing you gotta like about him is that if Beanie works out at Runningback as we all hope, he could be a killer safety with his size and speed. But on the other hand, if Beanie doesn't work at rb, he could play linebacker, and Johnson could be a runningback.

Gotta love the versatility.

This would be so huge to get a cali pipeline to Dorsey. I don't think there is any relation though.

I thought USC failed to bring in a RB for 2 straight years? Obviously they had studs before that, and any 06 recruit will battle it out with other 06 blue chip recruits... but is the depth that scary at USC to play RB?

I don't think the current depth is, but the high school senior depth is.

They can basically take their pick between Johnson, McCoy, and whoever the hell else they want, so maybe they will pass on Johnson but I think they like him.

Stripes says he is a lock so he is probably a silent verbal.

I dont believe in "silent verbals." In my opinion I think it is the same thing as saying, well USC is the team to beat.
What is the point of a silent verbal, in most cases if they were 100% sure it would be a well known verbal, a silent verbal does leave the door open for his mind to change, just like saying that USC is the team to beat.

Sometimes, a coach will ask a "committed" player to keep his commitment private so as not to scare off other recruits; for example, when Chris Wells publically committed to OSU in February, most every other top RB immediately dropped the Bucks from consideration - if Wells had remained "silent", then maybe the staff could have lured another RB to OSU before Chris "went public" with his commitment. This practice is borderline unethical, but it does goes on all the time, even at Ohio State.

I definetly agree. I really think that we probably would have landed Aldridge who had us as his leader but was probably scared off by Wells. Also regarding the depth at RB they are loaded but with juniors and seniors. White will probably hop to the draft and Bush may possibly too. USC is in good shape with McCoy, the back that commited to Texas is rumored to be thinking about changing his verbal to the Trojans, and C.J. Gable is very tough also. They have Mays and probably Perez at safety. This all bodes well for us but I still think he will go to USC. Also I think he is so talented he will be playing for them one way or the other.

"The best will play, and if your confident about your abilities than don't worry about depth- thats what the USC coaches say to most recruits afraid of depth, and it has been quite effective.

I'd normally say that hes easily USC's, but I have a gut feeling about this one, I dont know why I do though, hopefully i'm right.
