'05 OH ATH Alex Daniels (Minnesota signee, transfer to Cincinnati)

No way he is heading to OSU

I spoke at length with Daniels at the game Saturday. There is no way he is going to be a BUCK unless it is a game he's playing. Even after the game he was more negative Buckeye than before....couldn't understand that! He said it is more like LSU or Oklahoma. IMHO, his attitude rubbed me the wrong way and I can honestly say..SEE YA! Maybe I am reading him wrong, but he is definitely playing the ego game of recruiting!

Daniels Off To A Strong Start

Daniels Off To A Strong Start
By Duane Long
Date: Sep 14, 2004

ATH Alex Daniels of Columbus Brookhaven is off to a fantastic start this season. Duane Long caught up with him to talk about his start and the latest recruiting news.

All the Mr. Football talk in Ohio has centered around Javon Ringer and Tyrell Sutton, but Alex Daniels of Columbus Brookhaven is also off to quite a start. His defensive statistics are indeed impressive.

"Game one, I had 12 tackles and 4 sacks," Daniels said. "Game two, I had seven tackles, one fumble caused, one fumble recovered, and a blocked punt. Game three, I had 11 tackles and three forced fumbles. All those are solo tackles. I would have had a lot more if they were counting assists."

Daniels has also shown his versatility, playing all over the field for Brookhaven.

"The second game, I played safety, but the first and third game I played linebacker," Daniels said. "I never played linebacker before. I'm working on my reads and keys. I don't know what I'm doing.

"I've been playing running back. I scored a touchdown, but they called it back. It was a great run though; I put it on my highlight tape."

Daniels also gave the latest on his recruitment. The last time we spoke with him, he was trying to set up an official visit with Oklahoma. Has he set a visit date with the Sooners?

"No, I have not," he said. "I plan on calling them. I'm going to Pitt for the Nebraska game this weekend. Our teammate's already committed to Pitt. Minnesota called yesterday, I know they've got all those Columbus guys up there.

"I've been to Ohio State the past couple of weekends. They're trying to get me to commit. I at least want to see Oklahoma. We haven't set anything up."

That was the closest thing I have seen to a positive report for OSU fans on Daniels in a while. I hope we still have a shot with him. Seems like it is no longer a two-horse race...

According to the article he has narrowed his choices to tOSU, Oklahoma and LSU. According to Daniels, tOSU projects him as an outside linebacker, Oklahoma as a strong safety and LSU as an athlete. [/QUOTE]

Daniels quote
"At one time, people thought I might be best suited to play running back, but I’m getting the feeling now that I’ll probably wind up at linebacker or strong safety," Daniels said. "It’s been a little bit of an adjustment for me, but the Brookhaven coaches have been very understanding. If linebacker is where I’m going to wind up (in college), I’m glad I’m getting the chance to play some there now."

Whenever I read recruiting stories that include what the parents think, I take them pretty seriously. Parents know their children and have only the best intentions for them. And, generally, parents' wishes weigh very, very heavily in a kid's ultimate decision.

I think I agree with Alex' Mom on this one. He might do better away from home. If she's right about the posse he's running with in Columbus, all those same guys would hang with him on High Street. Trouble for tOSU, just waiting to happen.

In Norman or New Orleans, there are plenty of ways he could get in trouble, but at least he'd be starting from scratch. If he did screw up, it would be Stoops' or Saban's problem, not ours.

Listen to Mom, Alex, and see how you like Oklahoma or Louisianna for a few years. You can always come back to your posse when they're done with you down there.

I agree, MegaWoody (OT: funniest username / best user-title on BP) ... If getting away would be better for Alex and help him stay out of trouble, then that would be good for tOSU also ... there's nothing good about having a talented player on your roster if he's not growig into the person he wants to be. Nobody wants to see that, and if leaving home eliminates certain temptations, then it's in everyones best interest.

Ohio State, LSU, and Oklahoma are in on Daniels the hardest. He mentions once again that his Mom wants him to go out of state but Alex says there is pressure to go to Ohio State and "Maybe Ohio State's for me." He plans on going to all the Buckeye home games and will see his first ever Buckeye game vs. scUM.

The thing that struck me the most during his interview is his ommission of anything team related. He seems a little bit self-centered.

When Duane or Kurelic calls these kids they aren't calling to see how well the team is playing, they are calling to see how the player is doing. Now Daniels may be self-centered but I don't think it's fair to make that assumption after reading an article on him.
