Former top recruit Rouse leaves UTEP
EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Fred Rouse, once one of the most sought-after recruits in the country who tried to revive his career at Texas-El Paso, has left the Miners after one season, coach Mike Price said Friday.
"Fred will not be coming back for personal reasons and will most likely be going back to Florida," Price said in a statement.
Rouse, ranked by several recruiting publications as one of the top receivers in the country coming out of high school, originally signed with Florida State but was kicked off the team after one season for what coach Bobby
Bowden called "conduct detrimental to the welfare of the football team."
At one point in his freshman season, Rouse had been suspended for a game for arguing with coaches.
Rouse transferred to UTEP where he played in 10 games last season, catching 25 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns.
