Missouri boards were in meltdown mode at some of the rumors about how the new Big 12's pay structure was going to be but in the end those look to be nothing more than false rumors picked up and circulated through the media.
Right now all we know is
- Nobody has actually signed anything yet but...
That fits with what is being hinted at by reliable insiders on Mizzou's pay site. Also the last month Mizzou has been exceptionally quite. I've never seen MU so good at keeping news from leaking out. I'm guessing that has something to do with the Big Ten conference.
Why would you want CU over MU?
Missouri
- Larger Population (5,987,580)
- Two large media markets
- borders two current Big Ten states and three if you add Nebraska
- Good Football and Basketball programs
- 71,000 Capacity Football Stadium
- Already has a rivalry with Illinois and Nebraska and...
Here is an interesting ranking of schools combining football and men's basketball during the BCS era.
Rivals.com College Football - Best of both: BCS era combined standings
Big Ten Teams
2. Ohio State
6. Michigan State
8. Wisconsin
20. Purdue
Teams mentioned as expansion candidates
2. Texas...
How about Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M, and another school (Notre Dame, Maryland, or Rutgers).
Here are some Texas AD quotes from the Big 12 meetings in K.C.
For those that think The Big Ten would need to add Notre Dame or Texas for expansion to be successful I have to disagree.
If the Big Ten added the following schools Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Syracuse, and Rutgers it would have the following metro areas with a population of 1,000,000+...
Here's a different idea for expansion.
Form two 10 team divisions or really conferences under the Big Ten title that share rules and revenue and meet in a post season conference tournament to determine a champion.
In football you would play each team in your division for a 9 game conference...
I don't know if it is a done deal but if the Big Ten expands by more than one team I would be surprised if Missouri isn't one of them.
Missouri is a safe pick for the Big Ten. We are solid in both major sports, we're the only football D1 school in a new state with two large media markets...
Here is my take on what I could see happening.
Missouri, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Syracuse go to the Big Ten as rumored unless Notre Dame wakes up first and then they replace Pitt in that line up.
We form 4 divisions of 4 teams also as rumored. This makes the most sense for a 16...
Personally I like the look of this.
Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M to the Big Ten
The Big Ten with Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M
East:
Indiana
Michigan
Michigan State
Northwestern
Ohio State
Penn State
Purdue
West:
Illinois
Iowa
Minnesota
Missouri...
Missouri has Alumni living in all 50 states and D.C. so I decided to look up how many were living in Big Ten territory and this is what I found. I would be curious to see a break down like this for other schools that are being mentioned from outside the Big Ten's current footprint. It would be...
Here is a crazy idea. Be the first Super Conference.
The Big 20?
Add Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, and West Virginia.
Two ten team divisions or really leagues under the same conference title. Imagine the TV deals this conference could...
To be honest hockey is the one sport I can't ever seem to get into so I'm not sure how good our club team is or how far away from D1 they are but here is a link to their website.
Mizzou Hockey
I just read the last few pages of this thread and thought I would pass along some info on the University of Missouri.
- In fall 2009, MU welcomed a record 31,314 students representing every county in Missouri, every state in the nation and more than 100 countries. This is the eighth year in a...
