Thank you all for your comments and information. I think I am more worried about this than my wife is. Fortunately her mother has flown up from Florida to help us out during her recovery. It will be a challenge to keep my wife from doing too much too soon.

My wife will be going under the knife Monday morning. She has a herniated disc in the lumbar region of the back, the disc is I believe the second or third from the base of the spine. We have been told by the doctors that this type of surgery is 90% successful. Even so we are both a bit nervous...
