If Dick Pole was still the pitching coach, it would have had the makings for the raunchiest sports broadcast ever.
Brennaman: Here comes Dick Pole to try to get Leake under control. The way Dickey's tossing it tonight, a shaky Leake could result in this thing blowing up right in Dusty Baker's face.
Jay Bruce (did not start, ear infection) stand-up double, subbed out for pinch runner Mike Leake (DNS); Stubbs bunt single; Edgar Renteria (DNS, in for injured Cozart) 2 RBI double; Votto worm-burner single; BP RBI double. Reds lead 4-2.
Keep sendin out the gimps!
Cozart injured during collision with baserunner, had to be helped off the field. The way he was holding his left arm would suggest it's possibly broken.
8 is a bit much to ask for, but realistically, they need to go about 6-3 to have any real shot at winning the division. They may need to play near .750 ball for the rest of the season.
The bitch of it is there are precious few games against the teams ahead in the standings (6 vs. PIT, 3 each...
Any chance that Arroyo has any trade value? I appreciate what he's done prior to this year, but he's 7-8 and it looks like he's going to lean on the offense for every win, which is not good. Are there teams that have worse starting pitching than the Reds?
Over the last two seasons, I think I've seen more outstanding plays from Brandon Philips than I've seen from every 2nd baseman in MLB during my lifetime. Just sayin...
Wind must be blowing out tonight...Lewis and Stubbs go yard back-to-back. Reds lead 4-3.
BTW, Lewis seems to be coming along (at least compared to the rest of the outfield).
That's one of many internet comments I've seen saying that OSU somehow bilked money by playing ineligible players. As BB73 noted days ago, every B1G team would have gotten the same payout if MSU would have gone to a BCS bowl. Haters gonna hate.
Predictably, the tone in many of today's media reports tend to implicate that OSU somehow "got away" with something. You don't have to dodge a bullet that was never fired. Despite the wishes of hack sports writers, the real life consequences of random campus denizens saying they saw players...
That reminds me of an article I read a few years ago about what a physical freak Herschel Walker is. One of his old teammates said that you never saw Walker in the weight room, but he was always one of the fittest guys on the team. One road trip, the teammate was in the hotel room next to HW...
The cross on the tying goal was probably the best play I've ever seen in women's soccer (not saying much), and she was all business on her shootout kick.
