OPI cost us the game. Went from comfortably in field goal range with time to spare and a timeout, to out of time, out of range, and way behind the chains.
Agreed, and red zone was difference on Saturday (defense and offense).
Rutgers in 6(!) red zone trips: 3 FGs, 1 Pick 6, 1 TD, 1 turnover on downs.
tOSU in 4 red zone trips: 4TDs.
FWIW, Rutgers implemented the same strategy against CJ in '22, where they kept safeties back to prevent big pass plays and dared the Buckeyes to run. According to the announcers, the fumblerooski by Rutgers was the first play over 40 yards allowed by both defenses in the season.
Kyle kinda had...
Oh I agree. Let me rephrase.
IMO all the big game failures in recent years were on both the defense and offense:
'20 'Bama: 52-24
'21 TTUN: 42-27
'22 TTUN: 45-23
Sure, the defenses were bad. The offenses (passing games in particular), while not bad, were merely mediocre. With the army NFL...
Hate to agree with a Xichigan man, but I do.
To people questioning about Day's play-calling, please hear me out.
Hanging a 40-burger on Kirby is a monumental feat. Since being hired as head coach of UGA in '16, Kirby has forged defense into the core identity of his program. Year in year out...
They did exactly that.
First Down, Hayden was stuffed for a 1 yard loss.
Second Down, CJ threw a slant to X that was broken up by Ringo.
Third Down, Egbuka was briefly open on an out route, but CJ was pressured almost immediately and had to turn it down.
Said it in the Peach Bowl thread. It...
They did try, and failed ... this is what happens when your best player leaves the game. MHJr was not just a mismatch himself, he also created mismatch for others. On the scoring drive before halftime, X was covered by a linebacker. On the failed FG drive, X was covered by Ringo. Honestly it was...
Have no choice but to agree here.
Most of the time I can talk myself into excusing the "bad calls" by the staff.
For Knowles, big plays early against TTUN? The offense wasn't quite clicking enough to pull away. Combine that with some PTSD from '21. Had to be aggressive to show that we won't be...
IMO the losses to '19 Clemson & '20 'Bama changed Day more.
Let me elaborate.
tOSU offenses in '19 & '20 were the pinnacle of the power-run and deep-passing game -- the same formula that won us the 'chip in '14. Starting with QB Justin Fields, who -- despite being susceptible to sacks due to...
30% is quite high. It is higher than TCU's chances to reach the finals. It is at or higher than TTUN's chances of beating us before The Game '21 or '22.
Not even running, cause he ain't a RB, but just stop acting like he's afraid of contact. I used to think he's just preserving his health for TTUN, but no.
I know CJ can throw a pretty rainbow off his back foot while retreating away from pressure, but what I wouldn't give to see CJ for once...
I feel I kind of have seen the 2022 team's ceiling with CJ at QB, and that ceiling is not high enough to beat UGA. So even though I'm excited for the Bucks to be in the playoffs, it is hard for me to get my hopes up without a new spark.
Do y'all think we have a Tua on the team between...
Thoughts and observations before we move on to the Indinia game:
The rushing offense had fans pulling hairs out again, and understandably so. But if one just watch the box score instead of the game, it was hardly a bad day for the run game in the office:
Team O Rushing 207 Rushing...
