Regarding Shavelle and the guard rotation -
I think you have it right - "shock value" is a great way to describe her game-changing abilities. Tayler has done some nice work on D, shot the passing lane a few times for steals, as did Brittany today. Shavelle is improved on the offensive end but...
Very nice win and the team seems to really be on the right track.
Sammy and Jantel have both improved from last year, Tayler Hill gives them a perimeter dimension they didn't have last season, Brittany is stepping her game up as is Sarah Schulze. The bench has some good parts and Shavelle...
Sammy Blogging from Thailand
Sammy P is with the USA Basketball U19 team at the World Championships in Bangkok. The athletic dept. site is posting her blog during the tournament:
WBK: Read Sammy's USA Basketball Blog from Thailand - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site -...
Stanford has loads more depth, especially in the post. They are a little weak at pg (JJ Hones went down in the first game of the season). I don't disagree that the Buckeyes may be able to pull the shocker but they are going to have to keep Star and Jantel on the court, execute with great...
Well, both Sammy (23 pts, 7 assists) and the team (beat SHU 77-63 today) are off to good starts in the NCAA tourney - next up is Mississippi St, the 11 seed who knocked off Texas today in the first game. Seed numbers aside, I actually think this might be a tougher draw for the Ladies than Texas...
Major contributions off the bench today from Andrea Walker and Maria Moeller. Foul trouble could have been a real problem but those two really picked it up- Shavelle Little also had a real impact today with defensive pressure. Win out against Wiscy and PSU and it's a 5th straight B10 title.
39-17 at half. Northwestern looks slow and hesitant today but tOSU's defense is very good (holding NU under 20% shooting!) and the offensive spacing and ball movement is good.
I watched the feed on the net last night - believe it or not the Iowa radio announcers were screaming for more calls! I was wondering if there wasn't a little payback involved for Foster's (mild) discussion of the lack of calls that go Jantel's way this season.
Because of early fouls...
59-47 final, tOSU sweeps the Boilermakers in the regular season. Great win with 4 of the next 5 on the road against MSU, Indiana, Iowa and Minny (home game against NU sandwiched in the middle).
Jantel 19 pts, 13 rebs - congratulations on hitting 1000 career points in the first half (second...
OSU had interest early but were told pretty clearly that she didn't want to go there. Tayler didn't sign early, has apparently reconsidered her priorities, and her brother has indicated that he thinks she might want to be a Buckeye. The staff is now actively pursuing this possibility. That's the...
I know that OSU was interested in her, what's significant here is that to this point she has shown little or no interest in coming to Columbus. Apparently that has changed, and it would be huge to add a player of Tayler Hill's talent to the incoming class.
OSU 32 Indiana 29 at the half. The Bucks went down 9 midway through the half but stormed back on a 15-2 run over the last 3 minutes or so. Jantel has 13; Star has 8 pts and 9 rebounds. Whitney Thomas with a dozen for the Hoosiers.
The women complete a season sweep 52-44. Hard fought game; Michigan played excellent defense and had a big FT advantage in a whistle-fest first half. OSU held them without a field goal for the last 10:32 (!) but the FT edge gave Mich a 1 pt lead. The calls reversed in the second half as the Lady...
Physical game with LOTS of whistles. Despite not allowing a Michigan field goal for the last 10:32 of the 1st half, OSU down 1 at half. Avery aggressive start to the second half and the FT gap is narrowing, tied at 33. Brittany Johnson has played really well - Ashlee has not played much since...
Anyone else see this on Jim Massie's blog?:
Top recruit might follow brother to Ohio State (Ohio State women's basketball)
Tayler would certainly be a great addition to this talented group. Maybe the new uptempo Bucks are catching some recruits' eyes?
Very smart and impressive effort, especially withstanding Purdue's second half charge, Jantel's foul trouble and 6 minutes in the double bonus.
Perimeter defense, breaking pressure and especially, dominance on the glass, were the keys. 71-60 final. Great win!
A nice solid return to form with a 68-51 OSU victory. Jantel was outstanding, Star had another double-double and it was great to see Shevy back none the worse for wear. Purdue is next up and that's a big one.
If you want to run you either have to dominate your defensive glass or you have to pressure the other team's backcourt to force turnovers and misses (preferably both). The ladies couldn't do either very well last night. I'm sure Shevy would have helped with ball pressure.
On the other hand...
Sammy and Shavelle can really create problems defensively - 4 steals apiece, 13 for the team. MSU had 24 turnovers and only 13 assists. Sammy was impressive as a floor leader today, especially because she had probably her worst shooting game to date.
Jantel had a strong game with 20 pts, 8...
Bucks up 37-17 at halftime; defense is holding MSU under 30% shooting and forced 14 turnovers! Jantel leads with 10 points; Star is having a great game with 8 points and 8 boards.
