I don't understand why the SEC would want Clemson. They already have USC so I just don't see what Clemson would add. Any future expansion is going to be looked at from a television demographics, market size first, football prowess second standpoint. It's all about how much additional...
Sadly it's hard to see this ending without the NCAA putting a "show cause" order on him. They hit McNair at USC with one for what is essentially the same action - not reporting a player receiving improper benefits once he became aware of it.
The NCAA's hand may be forced here now that...
Surely you aren't trying to claim that an OSU booster offering an OSU student athlete a car isn't a legit news story?
Edit: it's a legit news story no matter where it happens.
Honestly I don't think USC's punishment is appropriate to use comparitively unless serious institutional level charges enter the picture. Despite how embarrassing this looks on the surface for OSU they aren't being asses to the NCAA like USC was.
Unless there is a lot more we don't know I don't see all that happening.
- Vacating the 2010 season, pretty much a given in my opinion (all though since they specifically ruled the players eligible for the bowl game they may not vacate that)
- Probation for 2-4 years with increased compliance...
Pros or not at all in my opinion.
Where do you go after coaching at OSU for a decade? OSU coaches don't go to Michigan and the only other programs on an equal footing stature wise in the college football world - ND, Bama, USC and Texas - are all set on coaches for the time being. I...
I think you guys are taking it a bit too personal here. You guys have one of the largest and best funded compliance departments in the nation and a former coach (Cooper) is out there saying he pretty much couldn't even take a dump without compliance taking note of it while he was here and yet...
He may not be able to get a decent price but I'm sure there are plenty of high risk insurers who would be willing to write him a policy. Insurance is, after all, nothing more than risk analysis - a bet basically. It may cost him $5K/yr for coverage but I have no doubt there is a price point...
That was a procedural trick. The NCAA can't rule on the eligibility of athletes that are "eligible" at the time. So Auburn stealth suspended him for the sole reason of forcing the NCAA to make a ruling about his eligibility.
Because sometimes it's more a case of relief because you know that they'd find the same thing going on at your school if they started poking around and you know the only difference between them and you here is that they got caught and you didn't.
If you went around to the big time D1 football...
Something you guys don't understand. SEC fans expect their schools to be in the NCAA dog house occasionally. It's just part of the deal as they see it. But then again few of them operate under the pretense that they are actually watching amateur football either.
And judging by the fact that...
I'm not sure about Gruden as a college coach. Look at how many QBs he chewed up and spit out in the pros - I'm not sure that same in your grill style will work well with some 18 yro freshmen.
Well they can force the University to sever all ties with him and ban him from all events. In other words about the worst thing you can do to a booster.
If the AD has to go then why not now? What is there to be gained by waiting? If the AD is basically lame duck status then what incentive does he have to do be extra diligent in handling this issue?
The pressure fan bases put on coaches to win means they have to share part of the blame for the win at nearly any cost attitude these days. It's one thing for fans to say in hindsight that it would have been better off if Maurice Clarret, Pryor, Reggie Bush or OJ Mayo had never gone to school...
First, Arkansas fans are some the most bat shit insane fans on the planet (seriously) and, second, I guess you missed all the fallout surrounding the recruitment of the Mitch Mustain. It turned out that under AD White and HC Nutt the athletic department was a cesspool.
The point is that...
