2016 SCHEDULE LOOK AHEAD: BOWLING GREEN AT OHIO STATE
Eric Seger on May 16, 2016 at 8:35a @ericseger33

They say you should never forget where you came from, otherwise you won't figure out where you're headed. Or something like that.

Urban Meyer is scheduled to heed some similar thoughts like that throughout training camp and during the first game week of Ohio State's 2016 season. His Buckeyes host Bowling Green, the university that gave the man his first head coaching job, Sept. 3 at Ohio Stadium. Meyer went 17-6 from 2001-02.

The matchup isn't for another 109 days (depressing, isn't it?), but we thought it wouldn't hurt to start looking ahead at Ohio State's 2016 slate. The Falcons are up first and the remaining 11 opponents on the schedule will follow in the coming weeks.

Let's get to it.

Ohio State football: Buckeyes will play four straight night games in 2016 season

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State football will play four consecutive night games during the 2016 season, the school announced on Monday.

The Buckeyes will play:

• at Wisconsin, Oct. 15, 8 p.m.
• at Penn State, Oct. 22, 8 p.m.
• vs. Northwestern, Oct. 29, 5:30 p.m.
• vs. Nebraska, Nov. 5, 8 p.m.

All four games will be aired on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

The game at Penn State had already been announced as Penn State's annual "White Out" game at Beaver Stadium, and it will be the fifth straight time the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions play in primetime.

This comes from ESPN's release of Big Ten night games on its networks. It's possible the Buckeyes could have more than four night games, including one on Big Ten Network and the Sept. 17 game at Oklahoma. The Big Ten Network will announce its night games at a later date.

It's on.

As has become tradition, Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes will have a heavy prime time flavor this coming fall.

In a release from ESPN, it was confirmed that the Buckeyes will be playing four straight prime time games. Beginning Saturday, Oct. 15 in Madison, WI, the 2016 Bucks will begin a four-game slate spanning three states, each in prime time on one of three ESPN affiliated properties:

October 15 at Wisconsin (8 p.m. EDT on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2)
October 22 at Penn State (8 p.m. EDT on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2)
October 29 vs. Northwestern (5 p.m. EDT on either ESPN or ESPN2)
November 5 vs. Nebraska (8 p.m. EDT on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2)

The Buckeyes in recent years have had as many as five prime time games and with scheduling still to be determined, it's not impossible they'll have more.

Which of these four contests are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below or on social media.

MotS&G Post Spring Game Shuffle: Quarterback and Running Backs

Post Spring Game Shuffle: Quarterback and Running Backs
Richard Tongohan
via our good friends at Men of the Scarlet and Gray
Visit their fantastic blog and read the full article (and so much more) here

As we all inch closer toward the Regular Season, all the excitement and buzz surrounds the annual Scarlet Vs. Gray Spring Game. This is normally the time of the year where the entire roster receives a chance to “control their destiny”. This is the time for the relative unknowns to display their talent to a raucous crowd within the confines of The Shoe. It is a time for the young Buckeyes to show their coaches what they can bring to the table, whether it is as a starter, part-time starter or a rotation player, the time is now for them to put on a show for all to enjoy. Whether you are a die-hard Buckeye fan or a fan of another team, this will be a spectacle to enjoy and see. The future should be as bright as the sun and for the non-Buckeye fans, prepare to get scorched and pan-seared because this years team, albeit young and replacing a bevy of starters, should be their normally dangerous selves by the time the fall rolls around. Here is an in-depth look at our future Buckeye Football Team.

The Return of J.T. Barrett:

It has been a poorly kept secret, but… Although we had endured through a mass exodus at the Quarterback position, we still managed to retain one of the previous “Big Three”. That is a huge plus as the Buckeyes look to move forward with the heir apparent to the Buckeyes’ Quarterback Throne. J.T. Barrett or better known as Just Touchdowns Barrett chose to stay for at least one more season to lead the Buckeyes this fall through the grueling 2017 College Football Schedule, with road games at Oklahoma, at Wisconsin, at Penn State, at Maryland and at Michigan State. His experience on the road and as a starter would help ease the transition with this years offensive line, skill players and playmakers.

Barrett possesses big game experience and that is a major plus for the team. Barrett’s poise under pressure and familiarization with the offensive scheme will be the determining factor. After getting the starting nod from Coach Meyer after week 8 due to the sloppy play from former starter Cardale Jones. Let’s just say that the offense started humming and thoroughly destroyed the hapless Rutgers team at Piscataway. The team responded and huddled around J.T. Barrett and delivered their most resounding and prettiest win in recent memory. I expect this years offense to do the same, although it may take some time to adjust to the new personnel.

Barrett had somewhat of a hard time this spring with all of the more experienced players on the mend due to injuries suffered last season. Noah Brown (Broken Leg), Corey Brown (Broken Leg) and Curtis Samuel (Broken Foot) all chose to rest their bodies this time around, but don’t think that they won’t be huge factors for the Buckeyes this fall. They will be leaned on heavily for their experience during key moments and stretches of the season. Barrett finished the spring game 13 of 22 for no touchdowns and two interceptions. No need to push that worry button through, this is by no means any indication of what is in store for us this fall. He will revert back to the form and player that we all know and love.

Battle for #2:

Joey Burrow and Stephen Collier have been dueling for the designation as the backup quarterback at Ohio State. The spring game was used as a platform to audition for that role on the team. Burrow had the slight edge over Collier throughout the spring workouts and scrimmages. Now after the spring game, he extended his lead and he might have secured the starting role. Burrow led the Scarlett team over Barrett and Collier’s Grey team to a 28-17 victory. Burrow finished 14 of 23 for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns and a single interception to a leaping Jerome Baker. Burrow showed the poise and precision and even touch on his throws and Coach Meyer and company couldn’t be any happier. Collier finished 4 of 9 for 154 yards and an interception. Although the numbers were decent for Collier, it wasn’t as productive as Burrows day and for that Burrow secured the backup spot, for now. We all know that the Buckeyes are deep at just about every position and with the pending arrival of Dwayne Haskins, you can never count any Buckeye out. An opportunity will arise and whoever is in line will take full advantage of the opportunity.

Conclusion:

So to conclude, the future at Quarterback is in good hands and is very bright. Once J.T. Barrett moves on, Burrow and Collier will surely step up and keep the tradition going. With Haskins from the 2016 Class and Clark from 2017 and potentially other Quarterback targets such as current Texas A & M commit Tate Martell (Arizona) and current Baylor commit Kellen Mond (Florida) constantly coming up inside of recruiting circles close to the Buckeyes, I think we will be set and that we are in good hands for years to come.

Saying Goodbye to a Legend:

After the stunning loss to Michigan State last season, Ezekiel Elliot let the coaching staff and the world that he wanted more carries to lead his team to victory. That did not happen and after the game he stated that there was no way that he would be coming back for another season in the Scarlet and Gray. Although disappointing, I feel that everything happens for a reason and Elliot got what he wanted and consistently ran down opposing defenses throats to cap his final season off as a Buckeye. Although he would be sorely missed, I feel that the current crop of Running Backs at Ohio State have the talent to carry the tradition of the bruising Running Back. Let’s look over the many options that the Buckeyes hope to unleash this season.

Baby ‘Los Running Wild:

Saying goodbye to Zeke was tough, but what better way to replace a legend with a Running Back who has the same body type and play style like another former Buckeye great, Carlos Hyde. Baby ‘Los or Mike Weber is better known for nearly flipping to TTUN in what was simply a misunderstanding between both parties as a former coach bolted for the NFL. That is done and over with and now we have this young and hungry Running Back who shined during the spring game. Weber finished with 38 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns inside of the red zone. He was quick, ran with determination and he ran with the power that we had grown accustomed to with Carlos Hyde. He currently is in a battle for the starting gig with upperclassman and our next player.

Five Star Redemption:

The stress of being a highly touted recruit, a Five Star Recruit as a matter of fact can be very difficult. Brionte’ Dunn was a player similar to previous players like Curtis Grant who never could live up to the hype. That is not by any means a slight to Dunn. He was slotted to be the lead back after Warren Ball transferred out. Dunn can be a solid back as previously seen during mop-up duty. He runs with authority, runs with power and is determined to reach pay dirt. The problem? He played behind Running Backs like Daniel “Boom” Herron, Carlos Hyde and Ezekiel Elliot. That is some tough sledding for a player who was so highly regarded in high school, but he stayed because he bought in and he will most like be in the rotation throughout the year. Whether it’s on spot duty or when games are out of hand look for him to follow the same path as fellow Five Star Curtis Grant. Although he suffered an injury to his ankle during spring practice, he was unable to suit up for the spring game. Regardless if he played or not, I feel that he will earn some snaps and opportunities.

Early Enrollee Turning Heads:

Being able to participate in the spring game not only gives you a head up on the competition, it gives you a chance to learn the playbook and earn a few snaps. It also gives you valuable face time with your peers and your coaches. Antonio Williams flipped his Wisconsin commitment and signed on with the Buckeyes late into the 2016 recruiting cycle. I couldn’t find any stats but I don’t think he did too bad. He is a true freshman and it will come with time. But in the classroom he is doing it the way it is supposed to be. Although he didn’t burst into the scene, he has made a positive impression on the coaching staff. I think Williams will earn some snaps sporadically throughout the season. He just has to be patient and trust the coaches and the process.

Conclusion:

I think Weber will earn the starting nod. He showed that he is game ready and capable. Dunn will be the second Running Back and Williams will work until he earns the playing time he craves. It is no slight to the player. I wish there were enough carries to go around but none of these Running Backs will back down.

Interview concluded: 04/28/16.

First let’s congratulate The Ohio State University Women’s Tennis Team in their victory in the Big 10 Tournament. They are BIG Champions! And they defeated TTUN 4-2 Sunday May 1st in East Lansing. They are now the automatic bid for the Big 10 in the NCAA Championships.

I am so proud to introduce to tBBC and our loyal base – along with all of Buckeye Nation their Head Coach – Melissa A. Schaub. Ever since Melissa’s presence in the leadership role of the Women’s Tennis Team – The Buckeyes have progressively improved – and as we see – are on a march for greatness. Melissa deserves credit for this. I am appreciative that she took a moment in her busy schedule – especially during the Big Ten Tournaments to answer my Ten Questions. It was exceptionally kind of her.

tBBC: After five seasons on the coaching staff of Middle Tennessee before returning home, so to say, being a Lexington, Ohio native, in order to join The Ohio State University staff – what was the motivational key that triggered your choice for the Buckeyes, and was it sentimental in your unheralded, or perhaps it was heralded, return to Central Ohio?

Schaub: I don’t think it was really a hard decision. I have always been and always will be a Buckeye at heart. I grew up surrounded by Ohio State fans and definitely was one myself. To have the opportunity to come back here and Coach for this athletic department seemed like a no-brainer. I think the decision was sentimental, in a way. I take pride in where I grew up — I love that I come from a small town in Ohio. I think that’s what makes Ohio State so special. It is built on a working mentality, a “school of the people”. That is something that I love being a part of, the feeling that you are doing all of this for something that the entire state is getting behind. That is extremely special!

tBBC: In your collegiate playing days at the University of Tennessee you were ranked as high as # 2 nationally in doubles. Can you help us understand the dedication that is needed in such a noticeable achievement?

Schaub: We were a good team that year. I had the chance to play alongside one of the best players in college tennis. She was older than me and more experienced. Her work ethic and determination rubbed off on me really early on. We were really good friends and wanted to do whatever we could for each other and our team. Leading in to that, I had always loved doubles. My dad has a club in Lexington. I remember being young and if there was an odd number in any adult doubles league, he would get me to fill in. I learned a lot about doubles during those times. I understood how to play doubles from not only my dad but also from the adults in Lexington that had to put up with me being the 8th player sometimes in their league. Ha.

tBBC: As a freshmen at the University of Tennessee, you were an All-American and 2nd team All-SEC, finishing out the year ranked 6th nationally. Did you ever imagine such a quick and promising ride when you left Lexington High School?

Schaub: I was lucky to have a good freshman year. I was able to stay healthy. I think that I went into college prepared. I worked very hard and pushed myself to be as ready as I could be going into that freshman campaign. The Idea that I was playing for my school, teammates, coaches — that was the motivating factor. College tennis was the greatest, and I had people around me every day that were pushing me. That’s what it’s all about. It makes the long hours and the commitment that it takes well worth it.

tBBC: This year thus far the Women’s Tennis team for the Buckeyes has set the program record in wins – you are 21-2 with 4 matches remaining on the schedule and the Big Ten Tournament is looming in the very near future as well. How proud are you of this team, and can you take a look into your crystal ball and share with us the outcome by May 1st?

Schaub: I am incredibly proud. This team is very special. They have bought into the process and worked tirelessly to have the season that we are having right now. I don’t know what is going to happen in the future, but I know that we are willing to put in the work, and more importantly than anything else, they have the belief that big things can happen. What I am most proud about, is that this team does things the right way. They take care of their work in the classroom, in the community, and are good kids.

tBBC: I believe that every Buckeye, student, teacher, coach, or employee, has that special spot on campus they seek for either quiet personal reflection, or positive interaction. Is there such a spot for you, and if so – where is it?

I would say the Oval. Whenever I am on campus, especially on a nice day, all of the students are out walking around, reading a book, playing Frisbee. It seems like such a happy place where everyone is having such a good time and experience in school.

tBBC: Who is your favorite athlete of all-time — it can be anyone from any era — from the Ohio State University?

Schaub: Archie Griffin – of course!

tBBC: What is the best advice you ever received pertaining to playing or coaching and did you follow the advice?

Schaub: I was given advice about coaching early on “no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care”. It is very important to me, as a coach, for my players to know that I have their backs. We are a family.

tBBC: Coaches love promoting their programs, speaking of their stars and their unnoticed weapons – is there anything you’d love to share with Buckeye Nation in reference to your phenomenal team?

Schaub: I am just so proud of this team. They do things the right way and they are one of the best TEAMS that I have ever been around or part of. The four juniors now, Ferny (Angeles Paz), Miho (Kowase), Sandy (Niehaus), and Gaby (De Santis) are truly the heart of the team. They came into an unranked program and now have led us to a Big Ten Title. We have five kids from Ohio. Sandy Niehaus, Niki Flower, Andrea Ballinger, Francesca Dilorenzo, and Anna Sanford — they will do anything for the Buckeyes and truly are Buckeyes for life.

tBBC: Your brother Ty played tennis for the Buckeyes. Your sister Courtney played for Cumberland University. Your father Ron played for Ohio University. You being a Volunteer of Tennessee are there ever any playful pride extensions at the Schaub family gatherings?

Schaub: Haha, we definitely are a tennis family. My mom keeps us all sane. Things would get competitive growing up for sure. My dad would be the one egging it on though (and then eventually pull us off the court, oops). He loved it! I think we all just love the sport of tennis and what we have been given because of it. Now, it is the best support anyone could ask for. I am following along all of my brothers matches at University of San Diego and I know he is doing the same. My sister is one of our biggest fans. The family support just means so much, especially because we all get it — what it’s like to be involved at this level.

tBBC: Could you share with your fellow Buckeyes why you love The Ohio State University and what it means to you to be a Buckeye?

Schaub: How could you not love it? When I think about getting the ultimate college experience, Ohio State is what I think of. You have an entire state that gets behind you. Ohio State has the largest alumni base in the WORLD. There are Buckeyes everywhere. I don’t think I have ever been to another state where I haven’t gotten at least an O-H! from a few different people. Everyone that is a part of this university, knows what a special place it is. I couldn’t be happier or more proud to call myself a BUCKEYE!

Thank you again Coach Schaub for your time. It is appreciated. The fact that you took time out to answer my questions during your march for The BIG Ten Championship shows your unselfishness in the small gesture of allowing your fans a glimpse into your world. You undoubtedly are proud of your Team’s accomplishments – as is Buckeye Nation. I feel you deserve the credit for these successes because great talent often wavers without guidance and leadership – of which you have proven in your delivery since arriving at The Ohio State University. Congratulations again …. And in your march through the NCAA Tournaments I hope you drop by to give us an update and to share some thoughts with all of Buckeye Nation. We look forward to further success for the Women’s Tennis Team here at The Ohio State University.

After a dominating the NFL Draft, future and potential Buckeyes are excited to see what the former OSU standouts put together on the next level.

For many football fans this past weekend was a national holiday. With all eyes on the NFL Draft, one college fan base walked away from the seven rounds feeling rather impressed with how their team did in Chicago.

While plenty of schools heard their players names called, stealing the show was one of the top programs in the Big Ten. From Thursday through Saturday evening, Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes had 12 of their former standouts selected to suit up for a NFL squad.

Watching their childhood dreams turn into reality, Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott, Eli Apple, Taylor Decker, Darron Lee, Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, Adolphus Washington, Braxton Miller, Nick Vannett, Joshua Perry and Cardale Jones were all picked to continue their playing days on the professional level.

The aforementioned players might not ever suit up in the Scarlet and Gray again, but they are still helping the Buckeyes. Keeping tabs on the draft, many top prospects from around the country had the chance to see that the guidance of Urban Meyer, and crew could potentially lead them to walking across the stage and shaking Roger Goodell's hand.

Want to know what some future and potential Ohio State standouts think about Ohio State's NFL draft success? Land-Grant Holy Land caught up with the following prospects and grabbed their opinion on the Buckeyes fantastic weekend in Chicago:

Future Buckeye WR Binjimen Victor

"It just shows that Ohio State develops their players and no matter what NFL teams will always come in and of there. I can't wait to see Mike Thomas because he plays the position I play, and also one of the best players in college football and exciting to watch."
Future Buckeye TE Luke Farrell

"I think it's awesome to see, and it shows how well Coach Meyer, Coach Mick, and the whole program develops players and gets the most out of their potential. Being a tight end, I'm really excited to see how Nick Vannett does in Seattle as well as Jeff Heuerman in Denver since he missed his rookie season. And it's going to be cool to see Bosa and Zeke to dominate."
Future Buckeye OL Malcolm Pridgeon

"I couldn't wait to watch the draft. I was excited to see all the Buckeyes get drafted and many others. As I watching the draft I could see myself in two years also being drafted. I want to see all the Buckeyes drafted accelerate at the next level. That draft was a great one."
Future Buckeye DB Jahsen Wint

"It felt good to see because I know I could be on that stage one day and I will. I wish the best for all and I want all the Buckeyes to be successful."
2017 OSU commit OLB Antjuan Simmons

"It was definitely insane. Three taken in the first 10 picks, and then five overall in the first round alone, and all the underrated guys later on. I'll say I'm not really excited about one more than another, you know I'm happy for all the guys. It's what they have worked their whole life for so it's just touching and humbling at the same time."
2017 OL Joel Honigford

"Seeing all of the Buckeyes get selected showed how well Ohio State develops their guys and prepares them for the next level. I'm really excited to watch Zeke and Taylor Decker on the next level because Zeke is so much fun to watch and Taylor Decker was a three-star guy coming out of high school so it's really cool to see this all unfold for him."
2018 WR Jahan Dotson

"OSU had a great turnout with all the draft picks and that definitely meant something to me because I would love to be in that situation one day and I see OSU can do that for me. I can't wait to watch Braxton Miller, especially with the dynamic wide receiver core the Texans have now picking up Will Fuller as well alongside of DeAndre Hopkins."
2018 DB Benjamin Sapp

"What I thought about the Buckeyes getting drafted was it's a straight blessing because there are millions of players across the world that would be blessed to get drafted in any round. The one that stood out the most was Joey Bosa because he's from my hometown and he played for my high school which might be bias a little bit, but I'm real good friends with his little brother, Nick Bosa."
2018 OL Emil Ekiyor

"It was just exciting to see that they are producing players at a high level. I am excited to see how Ezekiel Elliott does on the next level because I thought he was the best running back in the draft."
2018 DL Aeneas Hawkins

"I did watch the draft, and it was impressive to see that many guys get drafted. To me the most impressive part of it is the fact that they had five guys in the top 20. That's unbelievable and it shows the development that takes place at Ohio State. Personally, I'll be watching Adolphus Washington especially. Not only is he a Cincinnati guy like me, but one of the best defensive tackles to come out this year. Anytime I watched Ohio State play this year he was a guy I really tried to focus on. I've noticed how technical his game is and I'm interested to see how much success he can have in the league with it."
2018 OL Blaine Scott

"It was very exciting to see such hard working players complete a dream. It was a real eye opener. Although this may be a little biased because I am an offensive lineman, I look forward to seeing what Taylor Decker can accomplish at the next level. I am sure he will do great after training under Coach Warinner at OSU, and him now being with LeCharles Bentley working out under him. It will be cool to see."
2018 LB Christopher Oats

"I'm probably most excited to see Ezekiel Elliott because of his explosiveness and how he was able to take over in a game."
2019 DB Adonis Otey

"I kept my eye on the draft and Ohio State is definitely doing a good job with their players getting them ready for the next level. I think all the players getting drafted is definitely going to help with their recruiting cause that's most kids dream is to play at a school that could get them exposed. I would say I'm excited for Eli Apple the most mainly because that is what position I'll be playing. I'm excited to see how he pans out."

The 5th ranked Buckeyes women’s tennis team won its first Big Ten Tournament title defeating the 11th ranked TTUN , 4-2, in the title match Sunday (May 1st) in East Lansing. The Buckeyes, the outright Big Ten regular season champions, are now 28-2 this season and have won their last 13 matches.

“This is such a good feeling right now,” Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, said. “I am so proud of the team and what they have accomplished. Today is the reason why you put in all of the long hours. For them to get to run out and celebrate is a feeling they will never forget. They deserve this.”

Ohio State receives the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The field will be announced at 5 p.m. Tuesday on NCAA.com. The Buckeyes will be making the 13th NCAA appearance in program history and the third in a row.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines faced off inside. The Buckeyes clinched the doubles point with a tiebreaker win on court two after the teams split the matches on courts one and three. In singles, Ohio State’s Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed won in straight sets for a 3-0 Buckeye advantage. TTUN claimed the next two matches to cut Ohio State’s lead to one (3-2). Over at court one, Francesca Di Lorenzo, who had won the first set, prevailed in a second set tiebreaker to clinch the team title

In doubles, TTUN’s 16th-ranked duo of Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook posted a 6-0 win on court one over the Buckeyes’ No. 8-ranked team of Sanford and junior Miho Kowase. On court three, Buckeyes sophomore Olivia Sneed and Di Lorenzo won 6-2 over Ronit Yurovsky and Teona Velehorschi.
On court two, Buckeye juniors Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis, ranked 56th, prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) to give the Buckeyes the doubles point. The Buckeye duo is 11-0 this spring.

Sanford, ranked 110th, put the Buckeyes up 2-0, post No. 65-ranked Fahey, 6-3, 6-0, on court two. No. 111 Sneed was next off, topping Velehorschi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, for a 3-0 Buckeye lead.

TTUN won the next two matches to draw within one. On court four, Alex Najarian topped Kowase, 6-2, 6-4, ending Kowase’s winning streak at 17. On court five, junior Ferny Angeles Pazlost to Ruder-Hook, 6-3, 6-2.

On court one against No. 16-ranked Yurovsky, No. 5 Di Lorenzo won the first set, 6-2. Yurovsky came from behind in the second and the set went to a tiebreaker. The Buckeye freshman prevailed in the tiebreaker, 7-3, to clinch the match and the Buckeyes’ championship. Di Lorenzo was the leader for the Buckeyes in wins: 33. This is the second-ever wins in a season in program history.

On court three, De Santis gathered momentum after dropping the first set against No. 18-ranked Minor to force a third. Play was stopped with the third set tied at two.

Ohio State was making its third appearance in the Big Ten Tournament final. The Buckeyes lost to Northwestern in the 2004 campaign and TTUN last year.
