Ohio State makes top list for a football, and basketball prospect

A four-star RB has the Buckeyes on his early top-10 list.
The Ohio State Buckeyes signature recruiting event of the summer, Friday Night Lights, is happening in just a couple days. But before the marquee event takes place, the OSU coaching staff is still putting work in on the recruiting trail.
Earlier this week, recruits made the trek to Columbus for visits, and a handful of others placed the Scarlet and Gray on their lists of top schools. The trend of making the cut for top prospects continued again, as a four-star running back has the Buckeyes in his early top-10 list.
Back to the well?
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) has been a key Ohio State pipeline. Throughout the Urban Meyer years, the likes of Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Duron Carter and Trevon Grimes have made the move from the Sunshine State to the Buckeye State. Whether a member of the offense or defense, Meyer was able to recruit St. Thomas Aquinas stars to OSU.
Late Tuesday night, the Buckeyes found out—at least for right now—that they are in the right direction to gaining another member from that highly coveted pipeline. Daniel Carter, a member of the 2019 class, made his top-10 list known, and it includes a bevy of college football powerhouses.

Oregon, Miami (FL), Kansas State, Georgia, Utah, LSU, Texas, Pittsburgh and Illinois join OSU in the hunt for the four-star RB. The 5-foot-10 rusher holds over 25 offers, so this latest unveiling shows that he’s trimmed quite a few other top schools from his focus.
According to the 247sports composite, Carter comes in as the No. 356 prospect in his class, the No. 19 RB, and No. 49 prospect from the state of Florida. One early vote (back in February) was casted in the 247sports crystal ball for Miami to be the eventual landing spot for Carter; however, he just made an official visit to Pittsburgh on June 15.
The interesting thing about Carter’s list is that it’s not permanent. He notes that schools can be added or replaced on his list. I figure if one of his top schools gets a RB commitment from someone else, then it’s entirely possible to think that Carter could swap that program out for another. Schools like Auburn, Ole Miss, Maryland, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, who made offers to Carter but didn’t see their name at this stage of the recruitment, may not be entirely out of luck.
With the list not being completely set combined with an abundance of time before a commitment on paper has to be reached, the battle for Daniel Carter may be one to watch.
A top-8 spot for a PG
Chris Holtmann and his basketball staff were also out and about on the recruiting trail, too. Good news was announced just after noon on Wednesday, as class of 2019 four-star point guard Kyle Sturdivant (Norcross, GA / Norcross) made it known on Twitter that he had his college selection down to eight schools.
Ohio State made the cut, as did a handful of schools that are in close proximity to the 6-foot-3 PG. Home-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech made the list, as did Clemson, Ole Miss and Florida. While OSU is the most northern school on the list, they aren’t the furthest west. Both California and USC made the list as well, showing that the recruiting battle for Sturdivant has gone national.
And there’s a good reason why teams are battling it out to get his commitment. According to the 247sports composite, he’s the 120th best prospect in his class, 14th best PG, and 10th best player in Georgia. Twenty schools have already come knocking on his door with an offer, with notables Florida State and Xavier being left off the final eight.
There’s only four votes on the 247sports crystal ball for Sturdivant. Two of them geared toward USC; one each have been casted for Ohio State and Georgia Tech.
OSU making the top-8 for Sturdivant and getting one early crystal ball prediction seems like a good omen. We’ll keep you covered if Holtmann and the Buckeyes get any closer to landing this PG as their second member of the ‘19 class.
