This would be the fourth meeting between the schools.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are continuing their work on future football schedules, as they announced on Thursday morning that the Toledo Rockets have been added to the 2022 slate of non-conference games.

The Toledo matchup comes on Sept. 17, 2022, two weeks after the Buckeyes open with Notre Dame. Both of those games will be taking place in Ohio Stadium, but times have not yet been determined.

“We are very pleased to add Ohio State to our non-conference football schedule in 2022,” said UT vice president and athletic director Mike O’Brien. “Ohio State has one of the richest histories in college football and will be an exciting challenge for our program.”

There is still one more open slot (Sept. 10, 2022) on OSU’s non-conference schedule that season. With only Notre Dame scheduled in 2023, there is a chance that a home-and-home series could take place between the Buckeyes and their would-be opponent.

In the three prior meetings with Toledo, the Buckeyes came out victorious. The last time these programs met was in 2011, with the Scarlet and Gray narrowly avoiding the upset with a 27-22 win. Before that, the Buckeyes shut out the Rockets in both the 2009 and 1998 meetings.

The running back probably won’t make the same “accident” again.

So, the Cleveland Cavaliers — and honorary Ohio State Buckeye, LeBron James — are headed to the NBA Finals and the outcome has been wildly debated since the final buzzer of both Game 7’s in the conference championships. Once again, the Cavs will face the Golden State Warriors, and there are a lot of different opinions about how this edition of the finals will play out.

Second-year running back J.K. Dobbins learned a tough lesson on Thursday about doubting Ohio’s NBA team, and the GOAT, heading into Game 1. Dobbins’ Ohio State teammates had some fun with him in the locker room after his admission, moving his gear to James’ honorary locker and isolating him in the training room.


There was no love lost between Dobbins and his teammates, but maybe next time the Buckeye won’t “accidentally” second-guess anything LeBron-related for quite some time.

Game 1 between the Cavs and Warriors will tip-off Thursday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

This receiver may be one of the recruits 5-star Buckeye commit Garrett Wilson is trying to bring to Columbus.

It’s been a wild couple days out on the mean streets of Twitter. Everything from rap battles to alleged “burner” accounts by an NBA executive gave us entertainment for hours on end.

On Wednesday, though, the Twitter-sphere gave us something related to the Ohio State Buckeyes and their recruiting efforts. Let’s go take a deeper look into what happened on the recruiting trail.

Zone 6 goes back to Texas


The bigger news to emerge on social media on Wednesday was the announcement from three-star wide receiver Jaylen Ellis (Round Rock, TX / Cedar Ridge) that he picked up an offer from the Buckeyes.


A member of the 2019 class, Ellis is considered the 80th best WR, and 75th best product from Texas, according to the 247sports Composite. Even though he’s been a commit to Baylor since June 2017, he’s picked up a flurry of offers this month. On May 7, the Michigan Wolverines, and national champion UCF Knights made it known that they wanted Ellis to be part of their respective programs. A couple weeks later, Tennessee made an offer (May 24) followed up a couple days later by the Texas Longhorns. And then yesterday, it was the Buckeyes that came calling.

With those May offers coming from power programs, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ellis get bumped up to four-star status sometime soon. Last season, he hauled in 56 receptions for 1,248 yards and 14 touchdowns. If his production goes up this season, then it’s almost certain that he’s going to attract more top schools—and get a bump upward in the recruiting rankings.

Right now, Garrett Wilson is the only WR commit for OSU in the ‘19 cycle. That may play into the Bucks favor as it appears that both Wilson and Ellis are friends. In an article by 247sports recruiting expert Bill Kurelic , Ellis talks about his closeness to Wilson, who has been recruiting Texas prospects to OSU, and how he plans on making an official visit to Columbus.

Bringing Ellis into the fold would be huge for the Buckeyes, as there is an expectation that most of the production in the WR department will be going away after next season due to graduation and/or the NFL Draft.

An early arrival on the horizon


The Buckeyes’ marquee prospect of the 2019 recruiting class may be arriving to Columbus a tad earlier than expected. A couple hours before Ellis made his offer known, the five-star Lake Travis standout let the world know that he was working on graduating early, and is intending to enroll at Ohio State in December.


As mentioned, Wilson is trying to bring more top-flight prospects from the Lone Star State to Ohio State—and he looks to be making headway. Clearly, Wilson wants to be part of the Buckeye program as soon as possible, and can’t wait to make an impact. That’s the kind of thing I want in a commit, and Wilson may very well be one of the best wide outs to don the Scarlet and Gray in the Urban Meyer era.

We won’t have to wait too long to find out what he can do at the collegiate level.

The path for cornerback Kendall Sheffield to make it to the starting lineup for Ohio State has been a long and winding one. However, as we turn our sights towards the fall, much will be expected of him, now that Denzel Ward is firmly entrenched with the Cleveland Browns.

Sheffield was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Missouri City, Texas in 2015. He initially decided to go to Alabama, but after his redshirt-freshman year, he transferred to Blinn College (a Junior College), before joining the Buckeyes last year. So, in his first three seasons of college football, Sheffield played at three schools, and— with Kerry Coombs exit for the NFL— he is now on his fourth position coach as well.

However, according to Gerdeman, new OSU secondary coach Taver Johnson said that Sheffield is showing marked improvement in one specific area, literally keeping his eye on the ball.

“He’s done a really nice job of just really concentrating on his eyes, because playing his position, for sure what you look at is everything and when you’re supposed to look at it,” Johnson said.

The confidence in Sheffield’s improvements prompted the football coaching staff to allow him to run track during the indoor season. It went so well, that Sheffield set a new school record with a 6.63 time in the 60-meter dash. His speed is undeniable, but if the redshirt-junior is going to be able to continue the tradition of Ohio State DBs dominating opposing receivers, Johnson thinks that he will need to add some physicality to his game.

“He is a physical guy and a physical specimen,” Johnson said. “Seeing him play physical a little bit more is what we talk about. He wants to... I think the sky is the limit for Kendall.”

Musa Jallow’s recruitment to Ohio State, and then his up-and-down freshman season, is one of the under-discussed stories from Chis Holtmann’s first season in Columbus. The Bloomington, Ind., native reclassified in order to be able to enter college as a 17-year-old. He then started 10 of the team’s first 14 games, before he saw his minutes significantly decline throughout the season; to the point where he played a combined nine minutes in the Buckeyes three postseason games, logging no time in the Big Ten Tournament loss to Penn State.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that he is still just 18 years old (and won’t turn 19 until early February), and is currently participating in the USA Basketball U18 national team training camp. Jallow said that his experience in the college game was a reason that he was invited to camp.

“They want a team that can win and they need leadership and guys with experience at higher levels,” Jallow told Jardy. “I’m the only kid that’s been in college (in camp), so I fit the mold pretty well.”

FIBA Americas U18 Championship will tip off on Sunday, June 10 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The US team for the upcoming tournament will be announced soon, but whether or not Jallow gets the opportunity to continue with the team or not, he has picked up invaluable experience and exposure that he should be able to bring back with him to Columbus.

With the departure of Kam Williams, Andrew Dakich, and Jae’Sean Tate, OSU will be in need of ball-handlers in the fall. C.J. Jackson will be back, and former Wake Forest guard Keyshawn Woods is now in the Buckeye-fold as a graduate transfer, but Jallow should have opportunities to show that he deserves playing time. And, if he is able to up his game while playing with and against some of the best young talent in the hemisphere this summer, who knows, maybe he will stick in the starting lineup all season this time around.

“A Buckeye will fill Team USA’s 65-kg slot for the 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary (Oct. 20-28). That much is known. Which Ohio State rep it is will be decided on June 16.”

Now, this isn’t Shawn Michaels super-kicking Marty Jannety in Brutus the Barber Beefcake’s Barber Shop in 1992, but it is a bit of an interesting matchup of former teammates. Rising Buckeye senior Joey McKenna will face recent OSU alum Logan Stieber in a best-of-three series to determine who will represent the USA in this fall’s world championships.

Not only are the two wrestlers former OSU teammates, but they are also training partners, and, in fact, will continue to prepare for next month’s series together. Normally the Ohio State coaching staff would be in the corner for both wrestlers if they were competing against anyone else, but with the Buckeyes facing off, the coaching staff will look to avoid any conflict and will be sitting this one out; I’m sure cheering on both equally, like any good parents should do.

McKenna advanced to the finals by winning the 2018 U.S. Open title, while Stieber got his berth via the World Team Trials Challenge. Another former Buckeye, Kyle Snyder will compete for his spot on the team the week before.

Daniel Craig channels James Bond as he films commercial in Spain... after revealing he is returning to 007 role for fifth time



Daniel Craig was spotted in costume as James Bond filming on location in Cardona, Spain, today (Tuesday 29th May 2018).

According to press reports in Spain, locals said they were shooting a Heineken TV commercial, although nobody on the production crew would confirm or deny. Given the size of the location crew and timing, it is not directly related to Bond 25. Locals said Craig was only there for one day.

With Bond 25 still six months from principal photography and 18 months away from theatrical release, it would mean that fans will see Daniel Craig as 007 in a TV commercial perhaps a year before the film's release.

No surprise here, but there are some former Ohio State players that fans will be lining up to draft to their fantasy lineup.

As the NFL offseason drudges on, the first round of OTAs are now in the bag, and betting lines and fantasy football draft orders are being released. This week, Rotoworld’s Evan Silva released his Top 150 fantasy football players for the upcoming 2018 season, and four former Ohio State standouts made the cut.

Two running backs and two wide receivers, the four Buckeyes named included amongst the best options for your fantasy team are also some of the biggest legends to come out of Columbus in recent years.


The highest ranked Buckeye should come as little surprise to anyone even remotely interested in football. He was a phenom at Ohio State and went on to have one of the best rookie seasons on record with the Dallas Cowboys. After a lot of back-and-forth before and during his second season, the running back finally served his six-game suspension in 2017, and I’m willing to bet that he plans to make a statement with a full season on his horizon.


Already in the record book heading into just his third season, wideout Michael Thomas has continued to be one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets in New Orleans. Thomas has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his two seasons, and will look to not only continue that streak, but add to it through his versatility and big play ability.


Things have not exactly been smooth sailing for “El Guapo” in the NFL. After being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, he cycled through three head coaches in four seasons, and was then traded to Cleveland during free agency — even though he was finally finding his footing in San Francisco. He’s coming off of a career-best season with 1,288 total yards of offense and eight rushing touchdowns.


He may be one of the most veteran Buckeyes in the NFL (heading into his 12th season), but Ginn still has some legs on him. He’s found a bit of a career resurgence as a member of the Saints, often snagging a ball in the back of the endzone, or somehow managing 60-yards after the catch with a spin move mid-field. He finished the 2017 season with 787 receiving yards, the second-most in his career behind his 2008 season, and could have a similar finish in 2018.

Possible sleepers?


So, Silva named four Buckeyes, but there’s ten times that number of former Ohio State players currently active in the NFL. Of those, 17 play fantasy draftable positions, leaving 13 more Buckeyes not ranked in the Top 150.

There’s really no reason whatsoever to consider drafting a quarterback out of Ohio State to lead your fantasy team, with the options being limited to Cardale Jones — who’s competing for a No. 2 spot with the Chargers -- and J.T. Barrett — a rookie who sits behind Drew Brees.

Tight end is another position that I wouldn’t exactly recommend taking a Buckeye. Jeff Heuerman is playing on the last year of his contract in Denver, but never was able to make an impact after missing his rookie season due to injury. Nick Vannett saw an increase in his number of snaps toward the end of 2017, and could be someone you add to your bench in case he ends up filling the role left by Jimmy Graham this offseason. The third TE option is rookie Marcus Baugh, who is spending his offseason training with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent, and will be lucky to make the final 53-man roster.

The only other running back, aside from Zeke and Hyde, is Dallas backup Rod Smith. He had a very solid season in 2017, and should he make his way into the starting rotation due to some unforeseen circumstance, he would be a good mid-season addition to your fantasy roster.

There are a plethora of wide receivers out of Ohio State that aren’t listed in the Top 150. While I wouldn’t consider any to be a valuable sleeper, there are at least a couple who could prove themselves to be worth the draft risk. Noah Brown could finally see some additional targets now that the Cowboys no longer have Dez Bryant on their roster, and DeVier Posey could really use his momentum from the CFL to make big contributions to the Ravens offense this season.

Other Buckeye wideout options include, Jalin Marshall (who has yet to sign to a team), Terrelle Pryor Sr. (who re-injured his ankle this spring), Devin Smith (who is one injury away from spending his entire NFL career on IR), and Curtis Samuel (who is still rehabbing his ankle injury from last season). You’ve also got Braxton Miller who has been a bit hit-or-miss the past few seasons, but taking him ahead of the season would be a waste of a fantasy roster spot.

Columbus is getting ready for one of the city’s biggest events of the year, the Memorial Tournament. Jack Nicklaus’ tournament got underway on Wednesday morning with the annual Pro-Am event. Featuring athletes and celebrities from all over, one of the best college football coaches in the world spent some time talking to one of the greatest golfers in world on the 10th tee box.


Teeing off with Tiger Woods on Wednesday was special guest Peyton Manning. Two more NFL stars, Greg Olsen and LaDanian Thompson are participating in the Pro-Am event, and will make the rounds together, along with Pat Perez’s group.

Here’s the full list of pairings for Wednesday’s round.

Some of the top names in golf have descended onto the home course of the Golden Bear, in what has become a favorite event for many of the PGA tour golfers. However, leading into the event, two of the most famous Buckeyes in the world— Meyer and Nicklaus— spent some time together on the course, and it went about as well for Meyer as you would expect.


Woods returning for the 2018 tournament wasn’t much of a surprise, and he’ll join Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth competing for the top spot. Woods has won the tournament five times, including three years in a row from 1999-2001, but hasn’t had the honor since 2012. With Woods returning to something closer to his peak form so far this season, perhaps coming back to one of his favorite courses could give him the little boost he needs to make it back to the top of the leaderboard.


Hopefully the rain holds off the next few days and lets one of Columbus’ best events of the year go off without a hitch. If it does get rained out, maybe Meyer will have some more time to mingle with the best of the best.
