POSITION GRADUATE ASSISTANT – OFFENSE

Billy Fessler joined the Ohio State coaching staff in 2020 and will serve as an offensive graduate assistant for the Buckeyes.

Fessler comes to Ohio State after spending the 2019 at Mississippi State where he was an offensive graduate assistant under Joe Morehead. Prior to that, Fessler was a graduate assistant for one season at Slippery Rock where he coached running backs.

No stranger to the Big Ten, Fessler played quarterback at Penn State from 2014-18 and was also the team’s primary holder on field goals and extra points. A Dean’s List student, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance in May of 2018.

Prior to Penn State, Fessler was a standout quarterback at Erie Cathedral Prep. He led Cathedral Prep to three district championships as well as the 2012 PIAA Class AAAA State championship.

North Carolina Tar Heels (Official Thread)

North Carolina made 'state champs' rings after going 8-4, losing Orange Bowl

How can you tell North Carolina hasn’t won anything of significance on the football field?

The Tar Heels just handed out rings with “state champs” written on the side after going 8-4 and losing the Orange Bowl to Texas A&M.

After losing basically every meaningful game on the schedule last fall, the Tar Heels fell to Florida State, Virginia, Notre Dame and Texas A&M (they did not face Clemson last season), North Carolina had to figure out something to celebrate.

Beating NC State, Duke and Wake Forest turned out to be reason enough to celebrate.

Here is a picture of the “state champs” ring provided by North Carolina:

Tony Skinn (Maryland Assistant Coach)

Ohio State men's basketball coach Chris Holtmann will fill the final spot on his coaching staff by hiring Seton Hall assistant Tony Skinn.

The development was first reported by Jerry Carino at Gannett New Jersey, and a source close to the program confirmed the report although the deal has not yet officially been signed. Pending the finalization of the deal and a standard background check, he could be officially announced as soon as Monday.

Skinn, who played college basketball for George Mason and was part of the program's run to the Final Four in 2006 as a No. 11 seed, spent three years at Louisiana Tech before joining Seton Hall in April 2018.

With the Pirates, Skinn primarily worked with the team's guards and was known for his recruiting, according to his official biography on the program's website. Before being hired at Louisiana Tech, Skinn enjoyed a professional career that included a stint with the Orlando Magic in the 2009 NBA Summer League. He was the athletic director at Paul International High School in Washington, D.C., as well as an assistant coach for AAU program Nike Team Takeover.

He comes highly regarded from basketball personnel at the prep, college and NBA levels and with a reputation as a high-level recruiter and position coach with strong connections to the Washington D.C. area. Born in Nigeria, Skinn grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland.

While at Louisiana Tech, Skinn was part of a team that came to Value City Arena and defeated the Buckeyes, 82-74, on Nov. 24, 2015, a game the Bulldogs led from start to finish.

Skinn replaces Terry Johnson, who accepted an assistant coaching position at Purdue earlier this spring.

Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA)

The National Federation of State High School Associations will permit a 35-second shot clock in high school basketball beginning with the 2022-23 season, the NFHS announced Wednesday. A proposal for a national rule mandating a shot clock was not approved, however.

“We provided the committee with a lot of information regarding the shot clock, including responses to a 46-question survey sent to states currently using a shot clock,” Theresia Wynns, NFHS director of sports and officials and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee, said in a statement Wednesday.

Any states’ adoption of the shot clock would have to follow the NFHS Basketball Rules Book guidelines.

Citing Rule 2-14, each state association may adopt a shot clock beginning in the 2022-23 season “to encourage standardization among states. Guidelines include displaying two timepieces that are connected to a horn that is distinctive from the game-clock horn, and using an alternative timing device, such as a stopwatch at the scorer’s table, for a shot clock malfunction.”

OHSAA responds to NFHS shot clock approval

The Ohio High School Athletic Association broke its silence Thursday in response to the National Federation of State High School Association’s decision to allow shot clocks for basketball.

The OHSAA did not commit to a direction, but said it will continue discussions about the possibility with its own board of directors as well as the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

“Factors such as cost, game operations, and officiating all have to be considered,” the OHSAA said, “but we look forward to getting feedback from the board and coaches."

If implemented for Ohio high school basketball, a 35-second shot clock could be adopted for the 2022-23 season.

Under the new rule, there would be two timepieces that connect to the horn that can be distinguished from the game horn. In addition another timepiece, such as a stop watch, would be used in case of an error or shot clock malfunction.

The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association is in the early stages of exploring the possibility.

“The OHSBCA will continue to be in discussions in the future with the OHSAA with regards to a shot clock in Ohio high school basketball,” president David Sheldon told The Blade. “The OHSBCA will also be in communication with our member school coaches whether the shot clock is something they would like to see in the future of high school basketball.”

Minnesota Timberwolves

Alex Rodriguez group to purchase Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.5 billion, sources say

Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has reached a verbal agreement on a $1.5 billion sale of the team to former baseball star Alex Rodriguez and e-commerce mogul Marc Lore, sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports.

NBA approval of the deal was still pending, and neither side has publicly announced an agreement.

The two sides had entered an exclusive 30-day negotiating window April 10 that expired without an agreement, though the sides continued to negotiate in good faith, sources previously told ESPN's Brian Windhorst. Taylor previously said a deal was contingent on Lore and Rodriguez keeping the team in Minnesota. The team has a lease at the Target Center through 2035, but the buyout is just $50 million.

Lore and Rodriguez are 50-50 partners. They tried to buy the New York Mets last year but were beaten out for the Major League Baseball club by hedge fund manager Steve Cohen.

Any sale of an NBA club must be approved by the league's board of governors, which could come later Thursday. The Timberwolves would become the second NBA franchise sold this season. Gail Miller and her family struck an agreement in October to sell the Utah Jazz to Ryan Smith, a deal that was finalized after board of governors' approval in December.

Taylor, 80, a lifelong Minnesotan who bought the Timberwolves in 1994 for $88 million to save them from moving to New Orleans, has said he will continue to run the club for two more seasons until a handover in 2023. The Minnesota Lynx WNBA team is included in the sale.

"They've asked that I would be there for any decisions that would need to be made. I would enjoy that. I love teaching people," Taylor said an interview last month. "These are a couple of very bright guys, and I think it could be helpful to the club and I think I could be helpful to them so that they feel confident once they take over 100%."

Lore and Rodriguez met with Timberwolves personnel and toured team facilities in Minneapolis last month.

2021 FCS Spring Final Four

I think the FCS should always play in Spring, football for when there is no football.

Delaware (2003) and James Madison (2004, 2016) have won FCS titles. North Dakota State won 8 of the last 9 but they were eliminated by Sam Houston in the quarterfinals. Neither Sam Houston nor South Dakota State have won an FCS title.

JMU finished the season ranked #1 but SDSU got the 1-seed, so I'm hoping they settle it in the championship game. Both are favored this Saturday, but JMU will have to win on the road. They've done it before, beating North Dakota State on the road in the 2016 semis then beating Youngstown State in the championship game - Bo Pelini's finest hour at YSU.
