I want a server to:
- backup files
- host media files (for streaming via 360, laptop for bedtime movies, music, etc)

Questions:

1. Can my old PC get the job done compared to buying a pricey NAS server? AMD Athlon64 2.2 GHZ, 512 MB PC3200.

2. Should I buy identical hard drives to work together? Or is there no real difference (besides listed read/write/buffer) in using different drives?

3. If I play an HD video file on my newish PC streaming from the networked old PC, the performance will be based on the new PC, right?

- If 3 was a complication based on LAN bandwidth or other performance concerns, I would very rarely have HD videos on my server, other than new shows via Torrent, which could be transferred to my PC.
It seems like everytime I'm out there I get bad weather, I can't wait to feel the sun against my skin... on the beach no doubt.
Dammit, brother, you missed a great weekend... it was basically 'opening day' yesterday here in LA with packed beaches and small outfits. Don't worry if its raining when you get to SD, it won't last long. Colombia??
That's good memory. My first (and only) live game was at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea def. ManU in spring 2008... amazing experience.
Couldn't have lost by much but they didn't tell us the final numbers. Most of my immediate family is OSU fans or alumni. I just ended up in Knoxville because my dad was transferred here for work when I was a junior in high school.
Dude, how bout this, I'm still in OH... I'm taking off this Friday instead. With all this snow I really was unable to a lot of what I needed to, that combined with the Mom really wanting me to stay a little longer, and then I kinda wanted to go to the OSU Purdue game on Wed... so all combined I said f it, and am leaving Friday afternoon. So I have this bs snow. And to top it, I heard SD was a glorious 75 and sunny all week, and on Friday drops to the mid 60's with rain expected when I get there.

Besides the weather the other downfall is my travel schedule heats up the next few months. Miami March 3-10, Vegas March 24-28, Colombia April 6-8th, New York May 4th-6th. So, I won't have much time to settle. I'm ready to cause a ruckus though!
Just got done watching the first season of The Wire...and all this time I just thought you had a thing for the dude from Obsessed. :slappy:

What a great fuckin' show. Omar could make Sweet BBQ popular again.
Win, Mocha is now just under 90. They say labs take maybe one more year until her puppiness is gone. She is stubborn, but in a friendly, "All I want to do is play" way. Will come up and start pawing me with her big mitts because she wants to play - or for me to throw something - or to give her a rawhide chew. But she is so damn big and strong she can knock you off balance just running by you for the door if she thinks there is a chance you are taking her walking... Better days ahead - I hope.
Thanks!! I appreciate the offer too. We are getting married on Sunday Oct 10th, 2010 (10/10/10). The heart of football season.
Do I have to pay you by the hour for an answer?

The end of that post was just 'well if you're better at football, at least we have our wealth and test scores to keep us warm at night' :p
Good luck with the contest. If you don't win, hit me up, I may be available to shoot it depending on the date.
I have not checked out Portsmouth, NH, but it's on my list. We love Portland, though. Great restaurants, breweries, etc. It's really dog friendly as well, which another reason we like it so much. :)
