Dynamite Surfing

I Watched As They Spent Hours Digging In The Sand. What Happens When The Tide Comes In? INCREDIBLE!

beach.jpg

In this video we get to see how conservationists and surfers on the north shore of Oahu in Hawaii team up to help mother nature, protect their community and in the process, create some of the most spectacular waves on Earth. Watch them at work here.

Every spring, the Waimea river overflows at Waimea Valley, near the mouth of the bay, threatening to flood the nearby town. This is caused by the unique topography of the bay itself, coupled with the diluvial seasonal rains.

To counter this, people have been hand digging trenches on the banks of the river to alleviate pressure. A happy side effect of this human intervention is that it creates a consistent wave generator that allows surfers to practice their craft.

LGHL Ohio State's Pat Elflein and Raekwon McMillan named to preseason All-America team

Two of Ohio State's biggest stars are getting the recognition they deserve.

"First team: Center - Pat Elflein, Linebacker - Raekwon McMillan"

- Sports Illustrated

The preseason accolades keeping on coming for the leaders of the 2016 Ohio State Buckeyes. Center Pat Elflein and middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan have been mentioned on most of the award lists possible at their position and have now been named to Sports Illustrated's preseason All-America team. The duo were the only Buckeyes to make the list. Elflein was an All-American last season at guard but shifting over to center doesn't seem to have hurt his prospects in that regard. Should he lead Ohio State's offensive line again this season, Elflein could be looking at a very respectable draft pick and another appearance on the finalized version of the All-America team.

McMillan, meanwhile, enters his junior season in Columbus. The former five-star linebacker has already started to live up to the hype when Ohio State was recruiting him, seeing plenty of action as a true freshman and then last season as a starter in his own right. McMillan led the team in tackles last season and will look to do the same as he prepares for a professional career of his own. With a team so young on both sides of the ball, players like Elflein and McMillan are invaluable, especially in critical moments during games which the Buckeyes are sure to find themselves in this year.

"Not only will Elliott be the Cowboys' most impactful rookie, he very well could be the NFL's, too."

- Cameron DaSilva, FOX Sports

Cameron DaSilva of FOX Sports took the liberty of predicting which rookies would have the most impact in their first years for each team in the NFL. Ohio State's rookies represented well, as four of the Buckeyes drafted were named to the list. The first (and most obvious) was Ezekiel Elliott, playing for the Dallas Cowboys. With already building excitement by having the top jersey sales at NFL shop, Elliott is expected to be a centerpiece for the Cowboys offense this season and is even being taken high in fantasy football drafts with the potential to be great from day one. And with an offensive line that large and powerful, how could you not be excited for No. 15?

Also making the list were Michael Thomas in New Orleans (over Vonn Bell), Braxton Miller in Houston (over Will Fuller), and Taylor Decker in Detroit. Thomas has been reportedly having a fantastic camp for the Saints and has been one of the top performers during the offseason. Miller figures to touch the ball a fair share this season simply because of his versatility with the ability to carry the ball and also make catches which might give him a slight edge over Will Fuller out of Notre Dame. Decker looks like he'll be playing some right tackle this season but could eventually move over to left tackle where he's more comfortable down the line but will still have a huge impact on protecting Matthew Stafford for the Lions.

"You're not going to win ever rep. ... That humbles you. You will be humbled. It's fun, though. I love it."

- Darron Lee via Randy Lange, NewYorkJets.com

Another one of the rookie Ohio State players making the transition to the NFL is linebacker Darron Lee. Lee passed on coming back to Columbus for another season after making his mark on the program by helping the Buckeyes get a national championship and Fiesta Bowl win. Now, playing with the New York Jets, Lee is trying his best to get his mind up to speed, where his body has already caught up. As Lee mentions in the article, the practice grind is a marathon and not a sprint. Although Lee has shown to have good instincts and has the physicality to succeed on this level, the mental part is taking some more getting used to.

A freshman All-American in 2014 followed by a second-team All-American honor, Lee is smart enough of a football player to not be slowed down for long. The Jets have been pleased overall with their first-round pick, and have praised Lee's attitude and general lack of ego. Always a team player, Lee is set up for success in the NFL and should be fun to watch as the years progress.

Rushmore-150x150.jpg

The AP confirmed what Buckeye Nation already knew…The Ohio State University is the best team ever according to a collection of the previous 1,103 polls taking place over 80 years. According to the AP they determined this by a simple process:

To determine the all-time Top 25, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point) to mark consistency, No. 1 rankings (two points) to acknowledge elite programs and gave a bonus for AP championships (10 points).”

The result is the Buckeyes receiving a total of 1,112 points. Amazingly, over the 80 year period, the AP found the Buckeyes were not ranked at least once in only three seasons which is pretty cool.

Interestingly, the Buckeyes week three opponent, Oklahoma, was ranked second with 1,055 points. Two other Big Ten teams cracked the top 10; Nebraska at six (901 points) and Michigan at seven (894 points).

Amazingly, the SEC only had two teams in the top ten but undoubtedly their other twelve teams could collectively beat every other team at any time during the 80 year period.

Ohio State garners No. 1 spot in AP top 25 poll of last 80 years
BTN.com staff via Big Ten Network

This is awesome: The Associated Press, which operates the longest-running college football poll, published a top 25 Tuesday that ranks the nation’s best programs over the last 80 years (1936). No. 1? It’s Ohio State, the program that has been ranked in the poll for more weeks than any other team (852), including the most at No. 1 (105). Michigan (No. 7), Michigan State (No. 19), Wisconsin (No. 24) and Iowa (No. 25) also land on the list, as do current Big Ten members Nebraska (No. 6) and Penn State (No. 12), both of which experienced their best years pre-Big

That’s some honor for the program Woody, Jim Tressel, and Urban Meyer all had hands in.

While Michigan fans rallied around getting a basketball player on their football jerseys Tuesday, Buckeye faithful had a bit more to be excited about.

In the first ever Associated Press all-time Top 25, the Ohio State Buckeyes came out number one. The AP tabulated more than 1,100 weekly polls from over 80 years. The end result is based on total poll appearances, the number of times ranked No. 1 and AP national championships.

Joining the Buckeyes in the Top 5 are their opponents this fall, Oklahoma, at No. 2, Notre Dame at three, defending national champions Alabama at No. 4, and USC at No. 5. Michigan checked in 7th with Penn State 12th, Michigan State 19th, Wisconsin 24th, and Iowa 25th.

Now known as The AP Top 25, the power rankings originated with 20 teams, then was reduced to 10 teams from 1961 to 1967. The poll expanded back to 20 then later grew again to the 25 teams we’re accustomed to prior to the 1989 season.

Though no longer part of the formula that determines College Football’s primarily recognized national champion, the AP poll still awards its own national championship trophy as its done since the 30s. A panel of 61 voters make up the current Top 25 participants with 2016’s inaugural poll set to be released Sunday, Aug. 21.

Ohio State hockey pledge and Philadephia Flyers 2016 6th round NHL Draft selection Tanner Laczynski surprised the hockey world this morning by earning a spot in the final three split squad games for Team USA's National Junior Evaluation Camp. What that means is that Laczynski is turning heads and has come out of relative obscurity to be in contention for a spot in the most prestigious amateur hockey tournament in the world, the U20 World Junior Championship.

Laczynski surprisingly beat out competition such as Anaheim Ducks’ first round pick Max Jones (though Tanner is a year older, so let’s calm down a little) and remains one of the final 17 forwards left on the US roster as of now, with split squad games remaining versus Sweden, Finland and Canada.

The two way forward will be joining Ohio State’s mens hockey team this fall, and even impressed and surprised ESPN’s hockey draft guru Corey Pronman:

Flyers prospect Tanner Laczynski has opened my eyes over the last few days. I don't know if can make the final... https://t.co/awxTv2MExD

— Corey Pronman (@coreypronman) August 1, 2016

If he can show the kind of talent and ability on both sides of the puck he’s exhibited for the USA’s NJEC, a heralded freshman season may be in the cards for Laczynski this fall in Columbus.

There is no better way for a team to test itself than by playing a tough non-conference foe in September. Tyjon Lindsey will announce his verbal commitment in the coming weeks

Tyjon Lindsey sets commitment date

One of the most important Ohio State targets in the 2017 recruiting class will be announcing his verbal commitment in roughly three weeks. Tyjon Lindsey (Corona, CA / Centennial) announced Monday afternoon that he will be making his decision Aug. 22 via Bleacher Report.

Lindsey included a list of his final 10 schools in a tweet and Ohio State was included in the list. Urban Meyer is competing with the best of them for Lindsey as Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee and USC were also included on his list of finalists.

Ohio State has become highly active in recruiting Lindsey in the past year, and in doing so, has become the favorite for the top five WR. With 82% of 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, the Buckeyes are the team to beat come the fourth week of the month.

Recent Buckeye quarterback commit Tate Martell (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) and Lindsey were high school teammates in the beginning of their high school careers and the two have remained close in their years apart – and have hinted at reconnecting in college.

Martell isn't the only elite recruit in this class to be connected to Lindsey. Ohio State five-star WR target Trevon Grimes (Fort Lauderdale, FL / St. Thomas Aquinas) has also been rumored to be in talks of being a package deal with Lindsey. Grimes is currently a heavy Ohio State lean.

It is safe to say Urban Meyer and the Ohio State recruiting staff is working hard to build something special with this class.

Ohio State makes the cut for Four-star ATH

Markquese Bell (Bridgeton, NJ / Bridgeton) announced his list of his top seven schools Monday. Ohio State, who offered Bell back in June, listed the Buckeyes as one of his final schools, along with Michigan, Florida, Rutgers, Maryland, Clemson and Temple.

The 6-foot-3, 194-pound athlete will likely play receiver at the next level and the Buckeyes have shown they are more than interested in adding at least one more wideout to the 2017 class. The four-star Jersey native has seen his recruiting take off this summer as he holds offers from more nearly 20 different programs.

Rutgers is the current favorite to land Bell, but his official visits will surely play a role in his decision. Along with releasing a top seven schools, Bell also announced his official visit schedule, which includes a visit to The Shoe for The Game, when Michigan comes to Columbus.

Coincidentally, Michigan will now be the only school Bell gets to see in action twice, as he will also be attending a game in Ann Arbor when Michigan takes on Penn State. Because Bell plans to take all five of his allocated official visits this season, it is likely he will wait until National Signing Day to announce his decision.

Ohio State 5-star CB seems all in on Buckeyes

Longtime Buckeye CB commit, Shaun Wade (Jacksonville, FL / Trinity Christian Academy) was one of the first members of Ohio State's prestigious 2017 recruiting class. Despite confirming his commitment with the Buckeyes numerous times, Ohio State arch-rival, Michigan, was thought to still be in play.

The five-star commit made the most prominent statement in his pledge to the Buckeyes when he announced he will not be attending the Michigan's BBQ in the Big House recruiting event. This all but solidifies the No. 3 CB in the country will choose to play in the Scarlet and Grey come National Signing Day.

Ohio State sends out official scholarship offers
