The 4-star CB Jamyest Williams also revealed his decision date

Decision date set for Williams

As of today, Ohio State’s top ranked 2017 recruiting class features three prospects at the cornerback spot. The Buckeyes already have secured verbal pledges from Amir Riep, Shaun Wade, and Marcus Williamson but that hasn’t took them out of the mix for yet another top flight player at the position.

2017 cornerback Jamyest Williams (Loganville, GA / Grayson), the eighth best CB in the class, released his group of top schools on his Twitter account and, sure enough, Ohio State was one of the five that were included.

Please come out and support as I will be committing August 27 at 3 pm at Grayson high school ‼️ pic.twitter.com/oFvqKFNPzX

— Jamyest Williams (@Jamy0602) August 10, 2016

As you can see, the other schools that the Buckeyes will be battling for the 5-foot-9, 170-pounder include Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Williams, the nations 57th best prospect, also revealed the date in which he will be making his selection — August 27th.

Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors the Gamecocks to land the four-star defensive back.

Unfortunately for Ohio State, they have yet to rack up one single prediction for Williams. With that being said, unless Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes pull off something miraculous in the next two weeks, it’s a safe bet that the Loganville native will not be playing his collegiate ball in Columbus, Ohio.

Wade planning officials

Above we discussed how ‘17 CB Shaun Wade was a member of this years Ohio State recruiting class. That hasn’t stopped the five-star prospect from looking at all of his options.

Wade has taken plenty of visits, despite his pledge to the Buckeyes. Now the 6-foot-1, 177-pounder is beginning to think about official visits. According to 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic, Wade will definitely be taking officials to three schools — Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Kurelic says Wade will be in Columbus on Oct. 8 when the Buckeyes take on Indiana. A visit to Michigan will likely come the week before when the Wolverines take on Wisconsin. Wade’s father, Randy, also told Kurelic that his son would be at Notre Dame on Sept. 17.

Bucks give preferred walk-on offer

On Wednesday, Ohio State dished out a preferred walk-on offer to in-state prospect and 2017 running back Alonzo Booth of DeSales (OH), according to the schools Twitter account. Booth does hold a few full ride offers under his belt for the time being. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder has secured scholarship opportunities from Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, and Navy.

As one could imagine, it would be tough to turn down the opportunity to play college football for free. However, for all we know, maybe Booth would rather walk-on and spend his college at a program like Ohio State. Booth is a Columbus kid, so an outcome like that wouldn’t come as a surprise but that is something that will be determined at a later date but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on.

Booth is currently preparing for his senior season at DeSales High School. The running back will look to put together a more impressive campaign than last season when he tallied 915 yards and reached the endzone 12 times for the Stallions.

lostlassie, ive always found the reincarnation crowd interesting. everyone always seems to be reincarnation of the exact same really cool people. joan of arc or cleopatra or alexander the great or sum such. no one is ever a reincarnation of little billy the unwanted neighborhood orphan killed at the age of 9 by a run away manure cart... seems problematic to me. :p

your daughters dream does make sense though. a history of dance and various things young girls would find rather interesting. theres logic there i suspect.

after a bad reaction to a nightmare as a child my mother told me that it was my dream and was taking place in my mind. which means i have full control over it. didn't stop the nightmares, but there was only one dream that i had a particularly bad response to from that point on.

The countdown to the official kickoff of Big Ten football is at 22 days. Fans have become accustomed to hearing names like J.T. Barrett, Desmond King and Jabrill Peppers. How about some young, upcoming stars that Big Ten fans should expect to hear a lot about in this upcoming season? I chatted with several players and coaches, as well as media members at this year’s Big Ten Media Days, asking them about the freshmen that have stood out in practice. LGHL Taylor Decker is quietly doing very well with the Detroit Lions

Taylor Decker is quietly doing very well with the Detroit Lions

We expect no less from the former Buckeye.

“Taylor Decker didn't do anything to draw Jim Caldwell's eye during Tuesday's joint practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's good news, when you're talking about rookie left tackles.”

- Kyle Meinke, MLive.com

You’ve heard a lot about the various Buckeyes who were selected in the 2016 NFL Draft this offseason, but Taylor Decker has seemed to fly under the radar. That’s probably a good thing, as it appears he’s been doing just fine, as MLive.com’s Kyle Meinke points out. Meinke talked to Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, who thought that Decker had done a good job considering he seemed quiet.

Caldwell told Meinke, “I didn't notice any glaring problems consistently, but I'll look at the film. He probably held his own. I didn't see any glaring problems.” Caldwell added, "But nothing jumped out at me. When it doesn't jump out at you, typically he's OK." Decker was considered one of the better offensive line prospects going into the draft, and it’s showing why. Sometimes the learning curve for offensive lineman is much greater for some than others, but so far Decker has made the Lions feel pretty good about their choice. They’ll really love him if he’s able to keep Matthew Stafford on his feet and healthy.

“Eleanor Harvey, an unheralded Canadian who attends Ohio State, stunned the world's top-ranked foil fencer, Italy's Arianna Errigo.”

- The Columbus Dispatch

The Ohio State Buckeye reach has made its way to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and there’s been a pretty big upset today. It came in the form of fencing at Carioca Arena 3, when Eleanor Harvey shocked Italy’s Arianna Errigo by a score of 15-11. Errigo is the top-ranked foil fencer in the world.

Harvey, the junior from Ohio State, couldn’t believe her victory. The Columbus Dispatch described the celebration as such, “Harvey took off the mask, turned to the Canadian fan contingent near her piste in disbelief and pointed to her breast plate as if to say ‘Me? I did that?’”

Go USA. Go Bucks.

“The Chargers and Bosa are now in a stare-down, each side not blinking.”

- Andrew Brandt, MMQB

Joey Bosa and the San Diego Chargers remain deadlocked in a holdout. It seems very odd, considering we don’t see this with rookies anymore, especially since the 2011 CBA went into effect that preset the amounts that rookies receive in their initial deals. The stalemate between the two sides has been over payment terms on a signing bonus, and well as, according to Brandt, “The inclusion (or not) of offset language, giving the Chargers financial relief if Bosa were released during the contract and signed elsewhere.”

Bosa doesn’t exactly have leverage on the Chargers, who don’t seem to be in a rush to cave in for their 3rd overall pick. It’s an unfortunate situation for both sides, as Bosa is missing valuable time to get adjusted to the NFL game, especially with preseason games getting ready to start up very soon. Despite this, hopefully it turns out to be one of those stories where Bosa is so talented, the time he missed turns out to be insignificant. If the Bucks that came before him are any indication, this should be just a minor thing in the career of Joey Bosa.

Honored today to be a FREAK! Let's get it @Millerlite40 !! #3Stripes #TeamAdidas pic.twitter.com/gRNiSc5nj6

— Darron Lee (@DLeeMG8) August 9, 2016

New York Jets linebacker and former Ohio State Buckeye Darron Lee has gotten an endorsement deal with Adidas. Adidas made noise back in February when they signed Von Miller and made him the face of their FREAK football cleat franchise. Lee will become a part of that group, and Miller welcomed Lee on Twitter.

Lee is a good choice for Adidas, especially if he turns out to be a stud. He’s playing in the largest market in the country, and if he’s able to help turn the Jets into a contender, it will be even better for the company that always seems to be a few steps behind Nike in just about everything. But to be in the same company and on the same (endorsement) team as Von Miller is pretty neat.

15. Ohio State

- NCAA.com

The Ohio State women’s volleyball team is ranked No. 15 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes are competing in what is going to be a stacked Big Ten Conference this season, with Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Illinois all inside the top 15. The first three of which are in the top 5, with the Cornhuskers the top ranked team in the country, getting all but four of the 64 first place votes.

The Buceyes finished 25-10 last season, and finished ranked No. 13. The team has a pretty good mix of under and upperclassmen this season, but does have six freshmen in comparison to four seniors, and three juniors. The Scarlet & Gray match will be on August 19 at 7 p.m., and the North Texas Challenge will be the start of the season a week later, when the Buckeyes are set to face Texas State, and North Texas at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively.

LGHL J.T. Barrett might be the Big Ten’s only real hope for winning the Heisman

J.T. Barrett might be the Big Ten’s only real hope for winning the Heisman
Matt Brown

usa-today-9043149.0.jpg

Quarterbacks tend to win it after all.

Stop me if you’ve heard this story before, but as the college football season approaches, the Big Ten doesn’t seem to have quite the same level of shine as a few other conferences. Michigan is being touted as a possible playoff contender, and Ohio State sits in the preseason top five in the Coaches Poll. But the depth might not be there, from top to bottom.

Four Big Ten teams sit in the preseason Coaches Poll, and few think the league has a credible playoff threat — or a threat to win a major New Year’s Six game — outside of Ohio State and Michigan with the possible exception of Michigan State. Many teams, from the upper middle-class of the conference to the top tier, still have significant questions to answer heading into the season, from replacing quarterbacks, to new coaches, to the controlling line of scrimmage.

The Big Ten may also be lacking for candidates for some of the biggest individual awards in the sport. ESPN recently published a list of five possible Heisman candidates from the Big Ten, but if we’re being honest, there’s really only one right now, and that’s Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett.

It isn’t difficult to make a case for Barrett’s possible candidacy. After all, he already cracked the top five in Heisman voting back in 2014. His stat profile wasn’t nearly strong enough to garner attention last season, but unlike 2015, Barrett no longer has a QB controversy to worry about, or health concerns. Even if he doesn’t reach his lofty statistical peaks from his freshman year, given his fit with the coaching staff, his accuracy, and run-game ability, not to mention Ohio State’s high profile, a big bounce-back year doesn’t seem unreasonable.

It’s not that Barrett is the only good player in the conference, or that he’s even the best player. He probably isn’t! But right now, he appears to be the only player that meets criteria typically associated with Heisman winners.

First, being frank, the Heisman isn’t for the best player in college football. It almost always goes to a running back or quarterback, and since 12 of the last 15 winners were quarterbacks, betting on a QB is typically a safe bet. After J.T. Barrett and C.J. Beathard at Iowa, who is the next best QB in the Big Ten? Wes Lunt? Tommy Armstrong? Multiple programs are replacing experienced options under center, and few have either systems, or recruiting profiles, to suggest huge years as first year starters.

Second, Heisman winners dont just put up eye-popping stats on a consistent basis, but they play for winners, teams contending for conference titles, playoff bids, and top finishes. In recent memory, only RG3 at Baylor won a Heisman Trophy while playing for a team outside the Top 10, and the 2011 Baylor team still went 10-3 and finished in the top 15 in the AP Poll.

So a player like Saquon Barkley of Penn State could theoretically put up numbers comparable to a running back in the Heisman Trophy, but does anybody expect Penn State to compete for 9, 10 wins, even if Barkley runs for 1,400 yards? Is Wisconsin likely to get there, even if Corey Clement has a monster statistical season? Unless they produce truly eye-popping stats, something that generally doesn’t happen in Big Ten offenses, it’s difficult to see anybody in the Big Ten getting legitimate Heisman love after September, outside of a team likely to compete for a title like the Michigan schools or Ohio State.

That was certainly the case last year, as only Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott and Michigan State’s Connor Cook cracked the top 10 in Heisman voting (Elliott was 8th, Cook finished 9th). Tevin Coleman of Indiana had an amazing season in 2014, but thanks to the struggles from the rest of the Hoosiers, he couldn’t finish higher than 7th, and even his cracking the top 10 at all is a bit of a historical anomaly.

That narrows the field down, essentially, to offensive skill position players from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and maybe Nebraska. Both Michigan schools are replacing quarterbacks. Michigan’s De'Veon Smith is a perfectly capable running back who will get a veteran offensive line in front of him, but he averaged less than 4.5 yards a carry last season and almost certainly will split carries with other running backs. Michigan State is in a similar boat, although L.J. Scott may get an opportunity to carry the ball a few more times. Ohio State is replacing virtually every skill position player.

The one wildcard could be Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers, but even cracking the top five for a player that doesn’t primarily play offense is relatively rare, let alone winning the award. Peppers will see the field on offense, defense and special teams, but projects to primarily play defense, and only recorded about 150 yards of total offense last year. He’s an amazing player, but projecting a Heisman level leap seems ambitious.

This isn’t to say that J.T. Barrett should be a Heisman favorite, or even an elite candidate. Ohio State is replacing massive production at running back, wideout, and along the offensive line. Barrett’s new targets, while exceptionally talented, will be mostly unproven, and there’s likely to be a learning curve. The Buckeyes have also not yet proven they can have a consistent passing attack in the Tim Beck era. The odds like Barrett as a candidate (and they don’t like anybody else in the Big Ten), but there are certainly safer bets.

Weird things happen in college football, but based on the years of precedent we have for the award, the Heisman is probably going to be awarded to somebody outside of the Big Ten this year. And if it isn’t, their best chance, and perhaps their only chance, is that Barrett brings it home.

James Hudson goes Blue:

In my Monday column, you may remember that I had been hearing that James Hudson would be committing to Michigan State on Monday afternoon. Well that turned out to not be the case as the Ohio 4-Star recruit selected the Michigan Wolverines after attending their BBQ over the weekend.

Hudson did not have an Ohio State offer, nor did he ever spend any time on campus working out. With the commitment of Chase Young at the defensive end position, the Buckeyes have shut down their recruitment of that position due to a scholarship crunch that leaves them very little wiggle room in taking commitments.

This could be a chance for the Buckeyes to flip the commit

The Ohio State football season is underway and while the football team is chasing victories in their preparation for the season, the coaching staff is on double duty as they are chasing victories on the recruiting trail as well. This is one of the busiest times of year to be a college football coach, but no staff seems to find better balance than the coaches at Ohio State.

Taylor plans visits to OSU

Elite 2018 prospect, and Michigan commit, Leonard Taylor (Springfield, OH / Springfield) has made it apparent that he will make multiple visits to Ohio State this fall.

Taylor, who unexpectedly committed to the Wolverines early last spring, has kept the Buckeyes in his schools of interest. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing about 260 pounds, Taylor is obviously a big-time physical specimen who has the ability to play on the defensive line or even at tight end in college. The Ohio native is sure to be one of the top prospects in his class when his senior year rolls around and the Ohio State coaches will be working their tails off to flip him.

Before the commit to Michigan it was always thought that the Buckeyes were the favorite. The commit obviously changed things, though but Ohio State is far from out. Expect this one to be a roller coaster over the next couple of years as the Buckeyes are in as good as a position as anyone as it stands now.

While he is penciled in as a hard commit to That School Up North, 247sports crystal ball prediction believes something different. With seven predictions asked for, a majority say that Ohio State will be the landing spot for the Buckeye State native.

Rivals250 announced for 2018

As you remember, the Rivals100 for the class of 2018 was released on Monday and those rankings saw quarterback commit Emory Jones (Franklin, GA / Heard County) as a five-star and the number six rated player in the country.

On Tuesday, the Rivals250 was announced and though the Buckeyes don't have a ton of commits, yet, there were numerous targets scattered throughout. Recent running back commit Brian Snead (Seffner, FL / Armwood) did make the list, as he was named the 128th player overall in the class.

While he may be the 128th recruit on Rivals, Snead shows up in the top 100 on 247sports. Pulling in the No.74 spot, the Armwood product is considered the seventh best running back in the class and 17th best player in Florida.

Recruiting is a fickle business; you have to look at the tape and see for yourself whether or not a recruit will fit within the program. If you want to see what Snead will bring to scarlet and gray table, take a gander at his Hudl highlight reel.
