The Buckeyes have made some tweaks to future schedules and added multiple new games.

Ohio State just made multiple big changes to future football schedules.

First, Ohio State’s next big high-profile home and home series just became a single game, neutral-site matchup. Ohio State will face TCU at AT&T Stadium, better known as the Jerrydome, in 2018. Ohio State’s previously scheduled home game against TCU in 2019 will not happen. Instead, the Buckeyes will host Miami (OH).

But fear not, Ohio State has added another big name for a multi-game series. The Buckeyes will face the Huskies of Washington in 2024 and 2025, with Ohio State going to Seattle in 2024.

In other scheduling news, the Boston College series has once again been moved, now to 2026/2027 (so the Buckeyes won’t need to play three Power Five opponents in 2023). Future games have also been added with Bowling Green (2020) and Tulsa (2021), with both games appearing in Columbus.

With these moves, Ohio State is now fully scheduled until 2020.

As a fan, these changes are a bit of a mixed bag. Ohio State has typically avoided participating in neutral site games, and while the payout ($5 million) is nice, it does mean a “name” opponent will no longer be coming to Columbus. It also means that Ohio State is not currently slated to face a power conference opponent in 2019, with Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati and Miami (OH) currently listed as the non-conference opponents. Maybe that will change.

But hey, the Buckeyes have big games lined up nearly every season for the next decade, and in some years, multiple big games. In the playoff era, that’s still good news.

Will Ohio State cement its status as #DBU?

Although Ohio State’s 2017 NFL draft class is not as star-studded as its 2016 class, it is still loaded. The Buckeyes should have two top-ten picks and a third in Gareon Conley who was projected as a first round lock but is now linked to a sexual assault investigation. Outside of the first round the Buckeyes have Curtis Samuel, Raekwon McMillan and Pat Elflein who should all be selected on day two, then Noah Brown who is raw, yet has NFL potential.

Let’s see where we project these Buckeyes to go in the 2017 NFL draft:

Marshon Lattimore

Where he should go: Chicago Bears, first round, No. 3.

Other fits: San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills

After two seasons of battling soft tissue injuries, Lattimore was able to finally stay healthy and secure a starting job. All he did in that one season was pick off four passes and do enough to earn a round one NFL grade, allowing him to leave school early. Lattimore is the best pure cover corner in the class and completely locked down his side across from Gareon Conley. He’s a fantastic athlete with great speed, quickness and fluidity who will find himself as a top-five pick in this draft.

If the 49ers pass on Lattimore, then the Chicago Bears would be the ideal fit for the Glenville alum. There have been rumblings of Lattimore’s stock falling, however it could be smoke from teams around the top-five who want to move in-or-out of their draft slot. Right now the Bears have a solid front-seven, but a pretty pathetic secondary, and Lattimore would make an instant impact at the left corner spot.

If the Bears decide to go quarterback or go with the more proven Marlon Humphrey of Alabama, then the Titans could fill the void left by the departure of veteran CB Jason McCourty. A team to keep an eye on would be the Buffalo Bills at No. 10, who just lost Stephon Gilmore in free agency.

Malik Hooker

Where he should go: New York Jets, first round, No. 6.

Other fits: Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans

Hooker is the rangiest and most instinctive free safety that has came out of college in a long time. In his lone year as a starter, Hooker burst onto the scene by making two spectacular interceptions in his debut, where he showed legitimate Ed Reed range and ball skills. He fits the mold as a single-high NFL free safety, where he can play centerfield and instinctively make plays in the passing game. He is inconsistent as a tackler, but he’s willing to come downhill and isn’t afraid of contact. Most pundits say he cannot tackle or is a liability against the run, but inconsistent is a better description of his tackling abilities. Hooker will have a lengthy and productive NFL career in this pass-heavy league.

With Hooker having questionable medicals at the combine and some teams possibly being higher on LSU safety Jamal Adams, Hooker could definitely fall into the Jets lap at pick No. 6. With the Jets secondary in shambles, there’s no better way to improve a secondary than having a terrific free safety. Todd Bowles already has a talented defensive line, now he just needs to address his leaky secondary. Marcus Gilchrist is in the starter at free safety right now, but he tore his patella tendon in Week 14. Hooker is an obvious upgrade here — if he’s available.

Although it would be extremely rare for a safety to go No. 2, the 49ers are in play and the Titans could also use an upgrade at free safety at No. 5. The overall consensus of mock drafts though, is the pick after the Jets, with the Los Angeles Chargers. That said, the Jets would be making a mistake if they pass on this ball-hawk.

Gareon Conley

Where he should go: Originally mocked to the Tennessee Titans at pick No. 18, Conley is going to most likely drop down — and possibly off — draft boards after he was named in a sexual assault investigation just two days before the NFL draft. The corner was getting top-10 buzz lately, but now it looks like it’s going to come down to a team trusting Conley and his agent. Will a team spend a day-two selection on a player who has the potential to be charged with a serious crime just a few days after the draft?

After doing in-depth investigating into #OSU CB Gareon Conley’s situation, teams do believe he’ll be drafted now. 3 GMs predict third round.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 27, 2017

Potential Fits: New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles,

From a strictly football standpoint, Conley is a fit in almost any defense, as he has been a two-year starter in Ohio State’s press-quarters scheme. His long arms allow him to excel in press-man. Conley also ran a very surprising 4.46 40 at the combine. He’s the definition of a solid corner who barely gets beat since he plays with such sound technique.

With Conley’s accusation coming out just two days before the draft, he has expectantly left Philadelphia and returned back to Ohio. It’s almost impossible for teams to learn the facts in such a short period of time, so there is a chance that he has been completely crossed off team’s draft boards, ala La’el Collins in 2015.

One team that comes to mind now who may know the most about Conley and the situation would be the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick has a lengthy friendship and history with Meyer and especially Ohio State defensive coordinator and former Rutgers’ head coach Greg Schiano. With the Patriots not having a selection (as of now) until pick No. 72 of the third round, they could roll the dice with one of their later round picks after they do an extensive background check with Meyer and Schiano; not to mention they’ll need a replacement for the departing Malcolm Butler. If there’s one coach who would take a chance on a first round talent who slips down to the fourth or fifth round due to a potential off-field issue, it would be Belichick.

Raekwon McMillan

Where he should go: New Orleans Saints, second round, pick No. 42

Other fits: Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots

Coming from SEC country, McMillan arrived at Ohio State as one of Urban Meyer’s most highly touted and most important recruits at the time of his commitment — and he lived up to the extremely high expectations. Now, McMillan has faced criticism as an NFL prospect, with members of NFL draft media saying that he is not a three-down linebacker and he will have to be subbed off on passing downs. But he was never a liability in pass coverage and was never exposed on third down. The tape doesn’t lie and neither does his performance at the combine, where he ran a very solid 4.61 40 and about the positional average 3-cone for a linebacker at 7.15 seconds. McMillan has never been doubted on the football field before, and it seems silly to start doing so now.

The two-year starter looks like he could step in right away in a rotational role at his natural position of MIKE linebacker or evolve into a SAM linebacker in a 4-3. If the Saints don’t select a linebacker with their two selections in the first round, then McMillan should be in play for the second round. It’s clear Sean Payton has high regards for Meyer’s Buckeyes, selecting both Mike Thomas and Vonn Bell in last year’s draft. Payton was also in attendance at Ohio State pro day this season. If the Saints select a linebacker, look for another 4-3 team with minimal linebacker depth to take the former Buckeye on day two.

Curtis Samuel

Where he should go: Buffalo Bills, second round, pick No. 44

Other fits: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings

Samuel is a playmaker. During his tenure at Ohio State, Samuel began his career as a running back behind Ezekiel Elliott, then as a sophomore he moved to a hybrid RB/WR role before settling in at H-Back, aka the “Percy Harvin position” in Urban Meyer’s offense. In that H-Back role, Samuel put up 771 yards and eight touchdowns on 97 carries, and 865 yards and seven touchdowns on a team-leading 74 receptions. As one can see, the Brooklyn native was the ultimate Swiss-Army Knife for Meyer.

When it comes to Samuel, the offensive philosophy is going to be very important. Samuel isn’t a typical outside receiver who can plug-and-play anywhere, as draft experts are having trouble completely pigeon-holing him as a slot receiver or a running back. He needs to go to a team that utilizes the slot receiver and an offensive coordinator that possesses creativity. Samuel can be utilized in a Tyreek Hill-like role where he will run most of the his plays out of the slot, but he can also line up in the backfield and give you a few carries per game.

As of now, it looks like Samuel will be selected in the mid-second round and he has a few potential suitors around that draft position. The Bills would be a very good fit for Samuel. They just lost Robert Woods and speedster Marquise Goodwin in free agency and he would also be able to be a potential change-of-pace back if they decide to move on from LeSean McCoy’s monster contract soon.

The Buccaneers and Saints would be great landing spots for Samuel, as they’re both lacking someone who replicates Samuel’s creative skill set.

Pat Elflein

Where he should go: Minnesota Vikings, third round, pick No. 79

Other fits: Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets

Elflein is the ultimate team-first leader that most coaches would love to build their offensive line around. After becoming one of the best guards in the nation, he decided in his final season to switch to center where he won the Rimington Award, which is given to the nation’s top center. He’s an incredibly strong run and pass blocker and possesses the versatility and nastiness that the NFL adores.

Like his former teammate and current Green Bay Packer Corey Linsley, Elflein is a day-one starter on a team that needs a center. He should fall somewhere in the middle of the third round, to a team like the Vikings, Ravens or Seahawks — or he could even replace Nick Mangold in New York. It isn’t so much scheme with that position as it is just a need for a team.

Noah Brown

Where he should go: Los Angeles Rams, fourth round, pick No. 112

Other fits: Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans

Coming off a severe leg injury which forced him to miss his entire sophomore season, Noah Brown surprisingly decided to forgo his redshirt junior season to enter the draft. Brown has NFL size (6’2, 222 lbs) but is very raw as a route runner and lacks the ability to gain separation on intermediate routes to be a early contributor. Brown flashed with four touchdowns against Oklahoma, but didn’t do much the rest of the season.

Brown will not be expected to make an immediate impact, but rather for his size and potential. If he can add some quickness to his game and become a better route runner — especially on slant patterns where he could utilize his frame — he could eventually be a starter in the NFL. It wouldn’t hurt him to go to a rebuilding team where he won’t be pressured to contribute early. He has a similar body type as Kenny Britt, so he could be his eventual replacement in Los Angeles, or it wouldn’t be the worst thing for him to get mentored by Larry Fitzgerald before he rides off into the sunset. The potential is there, he just needs to put it all together now.

Cameron Johnston

Undrafted Free Agent

Potential Camp Invites: Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills

The Aussie needs to prove to NFL coaches that he doesn’t need to punt rugby style in order to be a great punter. The Ray Guy Award finalist will definitely get a training camp shot and will be able to show off his coffin corner accuracy and leg strength.

Dontre Wilson

Undrafted Free Agent

Potential Camp Invites: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints

Wilson battled injuries throughout his collegiate career and put up a surprisingly poor 4.59 40-yard dash at Ohio State’s pro day. Let’s hope Wilson gets a chance to prove himself in an NFL training camp, since he flashed as a dependable receiver on third down in his final season with the Buckeyes.

The ceiling is extremely high for the talented NFL prospect.

Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore is putting his hamstring issues behind him as he prepares to make the move to the NFL. He has excellent awareness for the ball, which is clearly reflected in his four (!) interceptions last season -- one returned 61 yards for a touchdown. He only has one full season of experience under his belt which leaves a lot of room for improvement — which should terrify opposing offenses.

Measurements

*Denotes top performer among position group

Strengths

  • Lattimore is fast. He ran over his competition at the combine and showed that his initial burst at the whistle is just the beginning of his athleticism.
  • The guy can tackle. Not only is he not afraid of it, the cornerback didn’t miss a single one of his solo tackle attempts in 2016.
  • Lattimore was targeted 41 times last season, and per PFF, forced a 30.2 passer rating among the opponents — fourth best in the FBS among corners.
Weaknesses

  • Having only played one full season, he has a lot of development ahead of him.
  • His hand size could be a concern for teams, but his four interceptions show that shouldn’t be a problem at the next level.
Highlights

Despite being sidelined early in the bowl game against Clemson, Lattimore was able to return and snag his fourth pick of the season.

Stats

Projections

Per SB Nation’s Dan Kadar, Lattimore is the No. 1 ranked corner in this year’s draft — which speaks volumes given the level of talent at the position in this class — and ranked No. 5 overall out of all position groups. He’s expected to be the first or second secondary player taken in Round 1, and could even go Top 5.

Outlook

Lattimore still needs some development, but with rookie and training camps, he should have no problem earning considerable playing time his rookie season. There are several teams who needs secondary help, like yesterday, and wont waste anytime getting the cornerback acclimated to his new role on a new team.

As if there was any doubt, mother always knows best.

One of the tried and true rules of the NFL Draft is that, upon being drafted, the first person that you must thank, after your god of choice, is your mother. While that is always the smart and safe move, tonight, it could be even more true for one former Buckeye.

Malik Hooker came to Ohio State after playing only two seasons of football at New Castle High School in Pennsylvania, and basketball was his first love. But, after earning an early OSU offer and then All-State honors, Hooker joined the Buckeyes as one of the lower-rated players in head coach Urban Meyer’s incredible 2014 recruiting class.

The safety redshirted as a true freshman, and recorded only 10 tackles in his first year on the field in 2015 before being named a starter heading into the 2016 season. Now, less than eight months later, he is on the verge of being a Top-10 NFL draft pick.

While many might say that a redshirt sophomore season that included seven interceptions, three of which were returned for scores, 11 passes defended, and 73 tackles is the main impetus for Hooker’s meteoric rise to the top of many a draft board, they would be wrong, because it all comes back to momma.

As Meyer revealed following Ohio State’s season opening win over Bowling Green last September, during his first few years in Columbus, Hooker tried to quit the team numerous times. However, his mother, Angela Dennis, kept him from giving up during those years when he was buried behind future pros on the depth chart, like Vonn Bell, Tyvis Powell, et. al.

“He came home every weekend and didn’t want to go back,” Dennis said according to the Dayton Daily News. “He would go off on long walks and not come back when he was supposed to. We’d have to go out and find him so we could take him back.”

With an assist from Hooker’s high school basketball coach Ralph Blundo, and former OSU coaches Chris Ash and Luke Fickell, Dennis was able to keep her son in Columbus, where he would eventually go on to be a first-team All-American after starting just a single season.

According to Hooker, his mother said, “I don’t know what you’re gonna do, but you’re not coming back here,’” he said. “She told me, ‘You’re gonna stick it out and it will end up working out.’”

As always, mother knows best. According to SB Nation’s Mock Draft, Hooker could go as high as second to the San Francisco 49ers tonight. Due to some lingering injury concerns that kept him from working out at the combine, other mocks have him slightly lower, but still in the top-10. The most common landing spot projected for the safety is the Los Angeles Chargers, where he would join fellow former Buckeye, Joey Bosa, on a squad that needs someone on the backend of Gus Bradley’s defense.

So, when Hooker hears NFL commissioner Roger Goodell call his name tonight, to whichever team it might be, and he eventually signs a contract for tons of first-round NFL money, it will all be thanks to momma.

MotS&G Final Mock Draft

Final Mock Draft
Garth

By Jacob Seymour

Our latest based on most recent updates.

1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garret, DL, Texas A&M. Best player in the draft fills a need for the Browns

2. San Francisco 49ers: Jamal Adams, S, LSU. Pairing Adams with Reid will give the 49ers a dynamic duo.

3. Chicago Bears: Marshon Lattimore, DB, Ohio State. The best DB in the draft is available and also fills a big need.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU. Blake Bortles needs a run game to help open up the pass game.

5. Tennessee Titans: Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford. The Titans probably really want to trade this pick to draft Mike Williams. They’ll take the best player available and hope Williams is there at 18.

6. New York Jets: Christian Mccaffery, RB, Stanford. With the depth of the secondary in this draft the Jets go with a playmaker

7. Los Angeles Chargers: Malik Hooker, DB, Ohio State. The Chargers defense will soon be known as the Silver Bolts because of all the Buckeyes on this defense.

8. Carolina Panthers: Johnathan Allen, DL, Alabama. Mccaffery is off the board they’ll look to drop the pick. Possible place for the Browns to move up. They’ll take the best player available if they keep the pick

9. Cincinnati Bengals: Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama. We all know the Bengals don’t mind taking players with red flags.

10. Buffalo Bills: Haason Reddick, LB, Temple. Reddick stock has continues to soar couple days to the draft.

11. New Orleans Saints: OJ Howard, TE, Alabama. Howard is a Top 5 talent. Though, it is to hard to justify drafting a TE that high. The Saints offense has shown how hard life has been without Jimmy Graham.

12. Cleveland Browns: Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina. The Browns should not be reaching this high for a QB, but this is the Browns we are talking about.

13. Arizona Cardinals: Mike Williams, WR, Clemson. A future #! WR in the NFL. The successor at Arizona when Fitzgerald retires.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: John Ross, WR, Philadelphia. Philly needs a guy to stretch the field. Plus the secondary is still bad. They will need to just try and outscore opponents.

15. Indianapolis Colts: Derek Barnett, DL, Tennessee. The Colts continue to build the team around the defense. Just like Pagano has always wanted.

16. Baltimore Ravens: Marlon Humphrey, DB, Alabama. The best DB available. In a division with Big Ben and AJ Green you need good DB’s.

17. Washington Redskins: Charles Harris, DE, Missouri. Washington needs to upgrade the pass rush

18. Tennessee Titans: Corey Davis, WR, Central Michigan. Has the potential to be the best WR from this class.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State. Another Top 10 player with character issues. The Bucs lost out on the Adrian Peterson sweepstakes and look to give Winston some help.

20. Denver Broncos: Cam Robinson, OL, Alabama. While he started at Alabama for 3 years on the left side. The right side is where he belongs in the NFL. The Broncos need more help than anyone can imagine on the OL.

21. Detroit Lions: David Nkoku, TE, Miami. Add another surprise in the first round. The Lions personnel has New England ties. We all know how deadly the Pats offense is with 2 TE’s. The Lions look to duplicate that.

22. Miami Dolphins: Forrest Lamp, OL, Western Kentucky. The Dolphins will look to move Tunsil to OT and that opens a spot and a need at OG.

23. New York Giants: Garrett Bolles, OL, Utah. The Giants need to move Flowers over to RT. Bolles has the ability to be a good LT in the NFL.

24. Oakland Raiders: Kevin King, DB, Washington. The Raiders gave up a lot of big plays in the passing game last year. With King’s size and speed. The Raiders look to limit those kind of plays.

25. Houston Texans: Evan Engram, TE, Ole Miss. The Texans surprise everyone. They’ll wait to address the QB situation in round 2 with Webb or Watson.

26. Seattle Seahawks: Adoree Jackson, DB, USC. The Seahawks need depth in the secondary. Having Jackson and Lockett would give the Seahawks great flexibility in the return game. This will maybe allow Lockett to focus on his WR skills.

27. Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech. I believe that Mahomes will be the second QB off the board. I feel his skill set is exactly what Andy Reid wants. He has a quick, but funky, release. He is athletic and can make the throws in the West Coast offense.

28. Dallas Cowboys: TJ Watt, LB/DE. Wisconsin. Is Texas big enough to handle 2 Watt brothers?

29. Green Bay Packers: Tre’Davious White, DB, LSU. The Packers showed they are in need of some depth in the secondary.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame. Kizer is Big Ben, but 2 inches shorter. Putting him in a stable environment and culture will help minimize his character issues.

31. Atlanta Falcons: Quincy Wilson, DB, Florida. DB is a deep position this year. After they let the Pats throw wild on them in the Super Bowl the Falcons will add depth in the secondary.

32. New Orleans Saints: Takkarist McKinley, LB, UCLA. The Saints will look to add to their pass rush after going offense with their second pick. In a division with Cam, Ryan, and Winston. You need all the pass rushers you can get.

Why watch hours of film when you can watch 30 seconds?

Danny Kelly wrote a cool article earlier this week at The Ringer this week where he broke down some of the NFL Draft’s marquee prospects in one single play. Scouts and analysts spend months reviewing all sorts of game film on prospects of all types, but why not try to sum up each prospect’s best traits in one play?

Let’s take a look at the plays that help best define Ohio State’s seven potential draftees.

Marshon Lattimore

Strengths: Freak athlete, ball skills, recovery speed.

Weaknesses: Durability, experience.

Play: It took Lattimore a season or two to work his way into the starting lineup, but it was clear he belonged from the second he stepped on the field. He consistently locked up whoever he lined up against and made plenty of flash plays throughout the season. In the below clip, Baker Mayfield was able to escape from Nick Bosa for a fleeting moment, but his downfield pass was snatched away. Lattimore demonstrates his elite ability to mirror a receiver, as well as the explosiveness and ball skills to make a play. His run after the catch is just a glimpse into the type of athleticism he brings to the table:

Malik Hooker

Strengths: Length, ball skills, play recognition.

Weaknesses: Experience, at times an inconsistent tackler.

Play: Hooker made plays from the spring game up until the Orange Bowl. Still, it was obvious that we were watching the second-coming of Ed Reed fairly early on in the season. Hooker’s ability to survey the offense from the middle of the field, before breaking on and ultimately intercepting a pass towards the sideline, was unrivaled in college football. His next-level ball skills were sure fun to watch as well:

Gareon Conley

Strengths: Length, technique, experience.

Weaknesses: Inconsistent tackler, at times struggled against quicker receivers.

Play: Conley’s impeccable technique and reserved style of play hasn’t earned him the same lofty draft expectations as Lattimore and Hooker, but he’s still a long-athletic corner that stands six-feet tall and runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash. Conley proved over and over again that he’s more than capable of locking up any receiver in press man. Unfortunately, his interception in the below clip was waved off, but his great pattern-matching skills and ability to make a play on the ball were on full display:

Curtis Samuel

Strengths: Speed, elusiveness, hands.

Weaknesses: Route running, size, experience as receiver.

Play: Samuel is neither a running back or a wide receiver: he’s a playmaker. His breathtaking speed and agility were deployed all over the field last fall. Samuel is just as capable of taking a handoff up the middle as he is snagging a deep post down the field. Of course, his true skill is the ability to make defenders miss, something that was fully on display on Ohio State’s biggest play of the season:

Raekwon McMillan

Strengths: Run defense, strength, tackling ability, leader.

Weaknesses: Experience covering in space.

Play: McMillan somehow managed to exceed his sky-high expectations at Ohio State. A three-year starter, his ability to hold down the middle of the defense was unparalleled. McMillan’s finest hour came against Michigan, when he tied a career-high with 16 tackles. As the below clip shows, his ability to quickly decipher plays, shed blocks, and make tackles should help him enjoy a long career in the NFL:

Pat Elflein

Strengths: Versatility, leader, consistency.

Weaknesses: At times struggled against quicker defenders.

Play: Elflein went from an All-American guard to an All-American center in less than 12 months. The team captain consistently held down the interior of the Buckeyes’ line, but he proved to be capable of so much more. Elflein provided the type of versatility that offensive line coaches dream of. The below play illustrates this, as pulling centers are very rare in football — not because the play design is poor, but because it’s hard to find a center capable of getting to the outside and blocking in space like Elflein can:

Noah Brown

Strengths: Size, hands, red-zone ability, blocking.

Weaknesses: Speed, route running, experience.

Play: Yes, Brown absolutely demolished Oklahoma and his four-touchdown night will be his lasting reputation for most Buckeyes’ fans. With that said, Brown made a living taking off linebackers’ heads from the second he came on campus. The idea that Ohio State requires its wide receivers to block well has become a bit of a punchline considering their lack of success last season, but this quality was not lost on Brown. In the below clip, he takes out not one, but two Wildcats on J.T. Barrett’s game-clinching run against Northwestern this season:

Another draft with two Buckeyes in the top 10 sounds good.

After a record-setting 2016 NFL Draft — with 12 Buckeyes taken in the first four rounds— Ohio State football looks to showcase itself once again tonight at the 2017 NFL Draft. While they certainly won’t match last years output in terms of sheer numbers, you can expect to hear plenty of familiar names announced as the weekend rolls along.

On this edition of The Hangout in the Holyland, Colton Denning is joined by fellow Land-Grant and SB Nation NFL contributor Alexis Chassen to discuss all things NFL Draft, including:

The Buckeyes get one step closer to penciling in members for their 2018 and 2019 classes.

The big news that came about on the Ohio State recruiting scene on Wednesday was when 2018 small forward Darius Bazley, who had been committed to the Buckeyes since August of 2016, announced his decommitment from the program. While things on the hardwood may not be going how Ohio State would like, the silver lining is that they did get some positive news on the football side of things on Wednesday.

Tannor, Henderson down to ten

Despite not having an offer from the Scarlet and Gray at this point in his recruitment, ‘18 defensive end Caleb Tannor (Lithonia, GA / Miller Grove) certainly seems to hold the Buckeyes in high regard. The three-star prospect revealed the ten programs he is focused on via his Twitter account—and Ohio State was included.

With long thought I have decided to narrow my decision down to a top 10 ❗️......(no order) @ChadSimmons_ @DaGroveFootball @Keith247Sports pic.twitter.com/EWaDljHlxV

— Caleb Tannor 2️⃣1️⃣® (@cvleb10) April 26, 2017

As you can see, Tannor also included Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee. Of those ten, the schools that have not offered yet are Clemson, LSU, South Carolina and the Buckeyes, according to 247Sports. From Ohio State’s standpoint, we will see if that offer does ultimately come for the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder. As of now, the in-state Bulldogs are the current favorite for Tannor on the Crystal Ball, as they have the lone prediction casted for the Peach State prospect.

The other prospect to include the Buckeyes in his top group was ‘19 wide receiver Arjei Henderson of Fort Bend Travis (TX)—a former Oklahoma commit. Amazingly enough, the offer from Ohio State was already No. 38 for the 6-foot-1, 179-pounder. With so much time until he ultimately signs on the dotted line, it will be interesting to see who/if any other programs jump into the mix.

Wilhoite catches Buckeye offer

Speaking of prospects in next year’s recruiting cycle, Ohio State officially jumped into the mix with ‘19 WR Lance Wilhoite of Franklin Road Academy (TN) when they threw an offer to the pass-catcher. The latest offer for the 6-foot-3, 169-pounder now gives him a dozen at this point in his recruitment.

The teams that the Buckeyes will join in the pursuit of Wilhoite include Louisville, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee. Surely more and more offers will continue to pour in for the Nashville native. 247Sports has an early four-star grade on Wilhoite and unsurprisingly, the Volunteers are the favorite on his Crystal Ball.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State Wide Receivers coach Zach Smith was in Virginia on Wednesday checking on ‘18 inside linebacker Teradja Mitchell of Bishop Sullivan Catholic (VA). Florida State, another top competitor in the recruitment of the five-star prospect, also stopped by.
  • ‘18 DE Tyreke Smith of Cleveland Heights (OH) is set to announce his Top 12 on Friday, according to his Twitter. Ohio State is expected to make the cut for the four-star Ohioan.
