Will the Buckeyes land another 2018 standout today?

After trying to land a commitment from four-star tight end Jeremy Ruckert for months, Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes coaching staff now only have a more few hours left to find out if the class of 2018 standout will suit up in the Scarlet and Gray on the next level or not.

Down to four programs, Ruckert, a U.S. Army All-American from Lindenwood, NY, will announce his college plans this afternoon between Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

I'm committing tomorrow at 3:00 PM Eastern Time!! Which fan base is the most excited???? 〽️☘️

— Jeremy Ruckert (@Jeremy_Ruckert1) July 16, 2017

One of the key recruits the Buckeyes have wanted in their 2018 class throughout the process, Ruckert would add another big time target to the Buckeyes roster.

A huge receiving threat at over 6-foot-5 and 230-pounds, he’s shown off his soft hands during his time at Lindenwood High, and during many elite camps, including The Opening, held on the grounds of the Nike Headquarters in Oregon.

After having a strong sophomore campaign, Ruckert proved it wasn’t a fluke by coming out as a junior and racking up over 800 yards through the air and eight touchdowns.

Will the Buckeyes hard work pay off once again or will Ruckert spurn Ohio State and take his talents elsewhere? We won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Stick with Land-Grant Holy Land for the latest.

2019 DB to attend Friday Night Lights

In just a few days the Ohio State coaching staff will be plenty busy, coaching up some of the top prospects in the country at their annual Friday Night Lights camp at Ohio Stadium.

One of those aforementioned recruits trying to catch the attention of the Buckeyes staff is MJ Griffin, a 2019 athlete from Saline High School in Michigan.

“I just want to go and compete and dominate. I'm trying to earn that offer. Coach Coombs is real cool and I think he likes me a lot. He said that he wants me there so I'm not trying to let him down,” Griffin, who reportedly holds offers from the likes of Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ball State, Bowling Green, and others stated to Land-Grant Holy Land.

While he is in no rush to end his recruitment, an offer from the Buckeyes would definitely be something the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Griffin wouldn’t take lightly.

“A Buckeye offer would mean that I can play for one of my top teams. All their DBs go to the league and I can play for a team that competes for the Ship every year. OSU Football is Championship football. And when I talked to Coach Coombs he told me to make a 40 year decision not a four year decision.” He added.

Team Scarlet & Gray cruises to next round thanks to the return of Three-bler!

For the second day in a row, team Scarlet & Gray was victorious in the opening weekend of The Basketball Tournament. On Sunday, the team primarily consisting of for former Ohio State basketball players knocked off a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee team called the Banner Boys, 72-58. Check out the highlights below.

The tournament’s eventual champion will receive a prize of $2 million dollars to be awarded on August 3rd following the finals in Baltimore, MD.

Leading the way for the former Buckeyes was three-point specialist Jon Diebler. A member of Beşiktaş in the Turkish pro league, Diebler finished with a game-high 21 points, hitting five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc.

William Buford, currently a member of BCM Gravelines in the French Pro A league, turned in 14 points in just 16 minutes.

The Midwest’s second-seeded Scarlet & Gray team went on a 10-0 run in the early minutes, and after trailing 1-0, never relinquished the lead. Just over halfway through the first half, a driving Jared Sullinger found Evan Ravenel for a corner three to put the former Buckeyes up 24-12.

— TBT (@thetournament) July 16, 2017

Ravenel, currently on the Japanese Akita Northern Happinets, finished with six points and three boards. Sullinger, who is currently without an NBA team after playing for Boston and Toronto last year, finished the game with four points and eight boards.

However, the No. 7 Banners Boys went on a 17-3 run in the half’s final eight minutes to pull within five with less than a minute to go before halftime, but S&G went into the locker room up 39-30.

Former UW-Milwaukee shooting guard Myles McKay led the Banner Boys with 14 points and three assists, with Kaylon Williams adding 13, and Jordan Aaron chipping in 10.

Former Buckeye point guard Aaron Craft finished the game with seven points, eight boards, and four assists, and was the obnoxious defender that OSU fans grew to love during his time in Columbus. Craft will play for AS Monaco Basket in the French Pro A league this season.

Also contributing for team Scarlet & Gray was former Northern Illinois power forward Leon Rodgers. He turned in nine points and six assists on the afternoon. The Scarlet & Gray team used their size and athleticism advantages to outscore the Banner Boys 20 to 4 on second chance points, and the bench of former Buckeye greats held a 28-15 edge over their Banner Boy counterparts.

As a team S&G shot 43.6% from the field, and, primarily thanks to Diebler, 40.9% from three-point land. Turnovers were still a concern for the former Buckeyes, as they committed 12 in their opening round game and 19 on Sunday. As their competition continues to improve, this will become an increasingly important factor for team Scarlet and Gray.

The squad will next play in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, July 22nd at 2:00 p.m. EDT against the winner of Sunday’s game between the No. 6 Fort Wayne Champs and No. 3 Always a Brave, a team made up of Bradley University alums. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

Cardale Jones is in another QB competition, but this time for the No. 2 spot with the Buffalo Bills

Can 12-Gauge climb up the Bills’ depth chart?

“He is the rawest quarterback on Buffalo’s roster but has far and away the best tools. Blessed with size and a cannon for an arm, Jones offers considerable upside.”

-Joe Marino, Fan Rag Sports Network

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones filled the No. 3 spot on the Buffalo Bills roster during his rookie season, behind starter Tyrod Taylor and back-up E.J. Manuel. Manuel is no longer with the team, leaving Jones in a position to battle a rookie for the No. 2 role. He’ll be competing with the Bills fifth-round pick from the 2017 NFL Draft, Nathan Peterman.

Despite Jones still being considered raw, as Marino noted above, all of the factors that led to his “12-Gauge” nickname at Ohio State could keep the Bills interested in his development. After all, how many quarterbacks can really sling the ball over 60-yards from on their knees?

The Buckeye also has to deal with having a new head coach in Buffalo, after having established a relationship with Rex Ryan. The former head coach called Jones with the news that his child was being born and told the quarterback to head straight to the airport. It’s this kind of personal relationship that benefited the second-year NFL player and could affect his development moving forward.

"We are aware of the incident regarding Adolphus Washington and have been in contact with him. Since it is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment."

-Buffalo Bills team statement, via Bob Strickley, Cincinnati Enquirer

During the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, Washington was forced to answer to both teams and the media about his first arrest, that kept him out of the Fiesta Bowl earlier that year. The Buckeye was arrested following the 2015 regular season for soliciting a prostitute, and was suspended by head coach Urban Meyer as a result.

Now, the defensive lineman is facing his second charge in as many years. He was arrested on a firearms charge — improperly carrying a concealed firearm -- last Sunday, outside a Sharonville, OH waterpark, before being released later than night.

According to a Sharonville police report obtained by the Cincinnati Enquirer, Washington "reached for and displayed a gun while sitting inside his vehicle; just feet away from officers. The suspect did not inform officers beforehand."

TMZ later released video of the tense stand-off between Washington and officers.

Washington hasn’t made a public statement since his arrest, but the legal ramifications could be just a drop in the bucket depending on what the Bills and the NFL decided to do.

“Some are already saying that Ward could be Ohio State’s next first round pick at the position, and because I cannot dispute that given his talent level, he is a true wild card in the 2018 NFL draft’s cornerback class.”

-Jonah Tuls, Draft Breakdown

Draft Twitter never takes a break, and with the 2017 NFL Draft in hindsight, analysts are already getting a headstart on the 2018 draft class. Already being heavily discussed in the early conversations is Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward.

With a strong season, Ward could carry on the recent tradition of Buckeye cornerbacks being taken in the first round of the draft. In 2016, it was Eli Apple. In 2017, it was Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley. Will Ward be next?

His size will undoubtedly be criticized by scouts, standing at 5’10, but his speed and footwork make up for it. Ward had 23 total tackles and broke up nine passes last season — three pass breakups came against Nebraska. Tuls suggests in his breakdown that Ward could line up at nickel in the NFL, thanks to his ability to defend against the run and pass coverage against speedy wideouts.

With good production this fall, Ward could be the next Buckeye to hear his name called on the first day of next year’s draft, carrying on the rich tradition of #DBU.

The Buckeye alums continue their quest for $2 million.

It’s been a while since fans could get excited about a Scarlet & Gray men’s basketball team making a run in a tournament, but after the opening round of The Basketball Tournament, Ohio State fans might want to start paying attention. Headlined by former Buckeyes Aaron Craft, Jared Sullinger, David Lighty, Jon Diebler, Evan Ravenel, William Buford, and Dallas Lauderdale, team Scarlet & Gray knocked off the Chicago-based The Region 78-63 on Saturday to advance to Round 2 in hopes of claiming a title and the $2 million prize.

The Midwest’s second-seeded team returns to action today at 1:45 p.m. EDT against the Banner Boys, a team primarily made up of former players from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Banner Boys squeaked by the Jackson TN Underdawgs 61-59 in the first round.

The OSU alums have dubbed their run in the tournament #ThisOnesForThad, in honor of their college head coach Thad Matta who’s tenure as Ohio State’s head coach ended earlier this year. Former Buckeye great Scoonie Penn, who was recently named Ohio State’s Director of Player Development under new head coach Chris Holtmann, serves as Team Scarlet & Gray’s general manager for TBT.

Round One Recap

Despite 13 turnovers for the OSU alums keeping the game fairly close until the final minutes, team Scarlet & Gray never trailed in their opening round victory over The Region. Sullinger led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Ravenel (13), Lighty (13), and Craft (10) all finished with double figures as well.

For a team with very little recent practice time together, Scarlet & Gray shot a respectable 47.8% from the field, but their 5 for 20 effort from behind the arc is something that will need to be improved as they continue their run.

In addition to the team’s former Buckeyes, Scarlet & Gray also saw contributions from Bowling Green’s Nate Miller and Northern Illinois’ Leon Rodgers. Each chipped in four points in the victory.

While it was obviously a much different environment than we are used to seeing the former Buckeyes playing in, watching some of Matta’s most memorable players on the floor together once again was exciting, and a little emotional.

Who is Team Scarlet & Gray playing?

The opening round victory for the Banner Boys was back-and-forth the entire game. Then, with the score tied at 59 and with time running out, Ronald Davis used a mid-air put-back of a Torye Pelham block to seal the thrilling victory.

Against the Underdawgs, The UW-Milwaukee alums used a balanced scoring attack to survive in a game that had six ties and 11 lead changes. Dylan Page led the Banner Boys with 16 points (to go along with 11 rebounds), Davis had 13, and Anthony Hill added 11.

As a whole, the team shot just 35.7% on 20-56 from the field, including 8-25 from downtown. With 12 turnovers forced and committed, like it was for team Scarlet & Gray, their opening round game was a little on the sloppy side, so who can maintain possession on Sunday should go a long way to determining who moves on in the quest for $2 million.

What’s next?

If team Scarlet & Gray knocks off the Banner Boys, they will advance to the Midwest region semifinals to be held next weekend in Brooklyn, NY. On Saturday, July 22nd, they would face the winner of the No. 6 Fort Wayne Champs and No. 3 Always a Brave Bradley University alumni team.

If the OSU alums are victorious next Saturday, they would advance to the regional finals where they would play the region’s top-seeded Marquette alumni team the Golden Eagles, No. 4 Purple and Black Attack (Kansas State alumni), No. 5 the Hilton Magic Legends from Iowa State, or No. 8 Majerus Slu Crew (St. Louis alumni). That game would take place on July 23rd, with a berth to the tournament semifinals on August 1st in Baltimore on the line.

All of TBT’s games next weekend will air on the ESPN family of networks.

Who Owes Who?

But seriously, I remember reading something about suicide statistics and I believe that the gist of it is that when most people are not able to commit suicide easily, they usually don't.

https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/means-matter/means-matter/survival/

reading through this a bit now. but i wonder if a slightly different possible theory is being missed here. when it comes to suicide i personally have always felt there are 2 core groups of persons who attempt suicide. people who legitimately want to die and people who are desperately seeking help but don't know how/where to get it. the first group is generally speaking pretty successful first time through. the second set never really wanted to die to begin with, rather they wanted help. in their "attempt" they either died, got the help/needed attention they were seeking, or realized how much this type of action wasn't going to help them get what they were seeking. so the likelihood of someone from group b repeating this type of action would almost certainly be extremely low. survivors from group a would likely be dictated by the severity of any injuries sustained in the attempt and or medical care provided as a result of the attempt.
