Starting a Consulting Business and have a Few Questions

The major reason to go LLC vs sole proprietorship is liability protection. LLC=Limited Liability Company
An LLC creates a liability wall against your personal wealth and property... sole proprietorship does not...
An LLC can only be liable up to the value of the LLC and what it owns

Question 2 is for your CPA... If you're going to start a consulting practice, your CPA becomes a valuable partner.

FWIW The liability wall does not protect personal goods against fraud and/or criminality

The Rizin FF fight between women's heavyweight Gabi Garcia and 53-year-old pro wrestler-turned-politician Shinobu Kandori was already a strange one, but things got weirder at Thursday morning's weigh-in. In one of the worst weigh-in misses to ever take place in a major MMA promotion, Garcia tipped the scale at 237 pounds, a whopping 28 pounds over the 209-pound weight limit.

The egregious blunder left fans and media in attendance surprised, and Kandori—who checked in at 162 pounds—was incensed on stage:

Update- 5:10 a.m., ET

The bout between Kandori and Garcia was officially cancelled just a few hours before the event. Garcia and Kandori both took the microphone during Thursday night's event, with Garcia suggesting she had health issues that forced her to abandon the cut. Rizin spokesperson Nobuhiko Takada suggested that the fight may be rescheduled for 2018.

Plus, OSU women’s hockey names four captains, and men’s lacrosse returns almost all of their top-scorers in 2019.

“The Big Ten Conference, along with the Big Ten Network, FOX and ESPN, has released start times and television carriers for the first three weeks of the Big Ten season and also for some additional select games this year.”

-Ohio State Athletics

As schools end for the summer and temperatures creep higher than we had begged for in January, football season is just around the corner. The past couple of weeks have seen a lot of changes and additions to future schedules for the Buckeyes — like no more Texas home-and-home series, and Toledo being added to 2022 — but, even though we already knew the dates and opponents, the 2018 schedule is finally starting to take a more well-defined shape.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The season and home opener for Ohio State on Sept. 1 will feature Oregon State — in what I will forever call “The Battle of OSUs” — and kickoff will be at noon and televised on ABC.
  • The Buckeyes will take on Rutgers the next week, Sept. 8, and will be aired on the Big Ten Network, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
  • Ohio State’s first primetime game of the year will be against TCU on the road at the neutral-site AT&T Stadium. ABC will televise the event, which will get underway at 8 p.m.
  • The Indiana game on Oct. 6 is set to be the Homecoming matchup and will either kickoff at 3:30 or 4 p.m. that day in Columbus (TV channel TBA).
  • Finally, the season finale and annual edition of “The Game” will be televised on FOX and will have the standard noon kickoff time. (It’s harder to burn couches and climb lightpoles in the middle of the afternoon... I said harder, not impossible.)

There are still some chances for the Buckeyes to claim more primetime games in the months leading up to the season — most notably against Penn State and/or Michigan State — but the NCAA is required to give teams at least a 12-day notice.

“While Sullinger is not officially on the roster yet, there is one addition that Penn confirmed to Jackson and McCoy. Former Penn State guard Talor Battle will be a member of Team Scarlet and Gray this summer.”

-Patrick Murphy, Bucknuts 247 Sports

Today was the day for the finalized rosters for The Basketball Tournament, and Team Scarlet and Gray may end up making a late addition depending on how things pan out. Jared Sullinger was notably absent from this year’s roster, after being a big contributor for the team during last year’s tournament.

Team GM Scoonie Penn spoke to 105.7 The Zone this week and said there’s still a chance the Buckeye big man makes an appearance for Team Scarlet and Gray. Sullinger is getting married this summer which apparently is throwing a wrench in the plan.

“There’s a good chance. There is,” Penn told 105.7 The Zone’s Stan Jackson and Matt McCoy this week.

”Jared’s getting married this summer, so that kind of messes things up a little bit. We know Jared. And it’s going to be here in the city and he’s probably gonna be alright. You’ll probably see him out there. Most likely.”

Even if the team is without Sullinger, they did bring in a Penn State alum to round out the roster. Initially Penn — as most Buckeye fans would be — was hesitant to bring in someone who didn’t play for Ohio State, but Talor Battle has close ties to this group of Buckeyes and has trained with them during the offseason on more than one occasion.

Team Scarlet and Gray earned an automatic bid to compete in the 2018 TBT thanks to last year’s effort as the Midwest region champions. This year’s Midwest regional will get underway on July 20, and there’s a chance Thad Matta’s Buckeyes will face off against some of Chris Holtmann’s Buckeyes competing on the Big Ten team “Big X.”

“I’m incredibly humbled by the opportunity to wear the ‘C’ and to work alongside my fellow co-captains,” Dunne said. “I think we have a really special group of young women who are all hungry to continue building off of last year’s success.”

-Jincy Dunne via Ohio State Athletics

Ohio State women’s hockey had an impressive 2017-18 season, and is hoping to carry that momentum into next season. The first step in their preseason planning is setting the team’s captains and assistant captains.

The Buckeyes promoted Jincy Dunne to full captain after she ultimately took over the responsibilities last season as an assistant midseason. She was a driving force in leading the team, and will step up even further, alongside her co-captain Erin Langermeier.

“It all comes back to Jincy taking over as an assistant captain halfway through last season and getting to watch her grow and become an elite leader both on and off the ice,” OSU Head Coach Nadine Muzerall said. “We needed to compliment her and surround her with fellow leaders that can keep up the high standards set by Julianna Iafallo and Lauren Spring last season.”

Dunne is coming off of a career-best season with 26 points and 24 assists (to tie for the team high), along with earning a slew of postseason honors; including AHCA All-American Second Team, All-USCHO Third Team, and All-WCHA First Team. Heading into her redshirt-junior year, she’s also notched several academic awards, including WCHA All-Academic Team, Academic All-Big Ten and a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.

Her co-captain, senior Erin Langermeier, started all 39 games last season for Ohio State, and has been a vocal leader in the locker room. Muzerall lauded the new captain saying, “She acts almost like a mom on the team. She’s the one that the ladies can bring their problems to and know they’ll be heard and helped.”

Dunne and Langermeier’s assistant captains are senior Madison Field and junior Olivia Soares.

Field has played in every game since joining the team in 2015, claiming the most appearances (112) of any player on the team. She recorded a career-high 19 goals last season, and nabbed her second-consecutive 30-point season. She was also named the NCAA No. 2 Star of the Week thanks to her five-goal weekend in the opening round of the WCHA Tournament.

Heading into her third season as a Buckeye, Soares has solid experience having played in all 37 games as a freshman, and in 32 games last season. She takes her studies just as seriously as her hockey training, and has earned WCHA Scholar-Athlete status, as well as being named to the WCHA All-Academic Team, the Academic All-Big Ten team, and as an OSU Scholar-Athlete both years.

The women have a few months before they officially take the ice for the 2018-19 season, but they are building a great foundation, and these four captains and assistants should be a big boost to the team as they prepare.

“The 2019 Ohio State men’s lacrosse team will return a large percent of its production on both ends of the field thanks to underclassmen that continue to produce when opportunities arise.”

-Ohio State Athletics

Seven of the top nine scorers for the Buckeyes last season will return for the 2019 season, setting up a lot to be excited about through the offseason.

At the top of the scoring list were then-sophomore Tre Leclaire (37 points), freshman Jackson Reid (28), and junior Jack Jasinski (28). The underclassman performed so well in 2018, that 54 percent (110 of the 204) of the total points scored for OSU were claimed by either a freshman or sophomore. Leclaire, along with Ryan Terefenko, has already earned more than one USILA All-America honor.

Rounding out the impressive young talent were freshman Justin Inacio — who finished the 2018 season ranked No. 1 among freshman nationwide with a .613 winning percentage — and redshirt freshman goalie Josh Kirson.

It might be awhile until we get to see the Buckeyes back on the field and in action, but it’s nice knowing that the 2019 season should be a good one for Ohio State men’s lacrosse.

The Buckeyes bullpen had a day to forget as they fell to South Carolina, 8-3.

Just a day after being named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Ohio State relief ace Seth Kinker experienced what was perhaps the worst inning of his career in scarlet and gray. Trying to protect a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, the right-hander surrendered five runs before he could retire the side against South Carolina, as the No. 3 seed Buckeyes fell 8-3 in their opening NCAA tournament game in Greenville.

Coming into the day, Kinker had allowed just 10 earned runs all season. But a three-run homer by center fielder Danny Blair and a two-run single by second baseman Justin Row started the rout, as the second-seeded Gamecocks scored all eight of their runs in their final two at-bats to grab the victory.

Ohio State squandered several scoring opportunities throughout the game, leaving 11 runners on base and stranding the bases loaded twice. The disappointing performance by the team overshadowed freshman Dillon Dingler’s best game of the season. The catcher-turned-center fielder went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two runs batted in.

Starter Connor Curlis did his job on the bump and then some for Ohio State, tossing six shutout innings. The southpaw yielded just four hits and two walks while striking out four earning a no-decision.

On a sunny, humid 90-degree afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium, Ohio State made South Carolina starter Adam Hill labor. Working long at-bats, the right-hander’s pitch count climbed quickly, and he would be gone before recording an out in the fifth.

As they did throughout the Big Ten tournament last week, the Buckeyes got on the scoreboard first in this one. With one away in the top of the second, Dingler unloaded on a fastball in the middle of the plate, sending it screaming over the left field wall for his fourth home run of the year.

Ohio State would have opportunities again in the fourth and fifth frames, but came away empty. In both innings, the Buckeyes loaded the bases but failed to deliver the clutch hit needed to blow things open.

Meanwhile, Curlis was showing the grit of an ace on the mound. South Carolina had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but the Findlay native executed pitches when he needed to to escape the jams.

The seventh inning is where things turned. Ohio State took a 2-0 lead when Dingler delivered a two-out double down the left field line to score Connor Pohl. With Kinker coming on looking for his 16th save of the season, the Buckeyes had to feel confident.

But the senior sidearmer just didn’t have his best stuff. A pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt gave the Gamecocks two on with one out, and that’s when Blair went yard.

A single and a botched force play at second base set up Row to knock in two more, and the air was taken out of the Ohio State dugout.

Freshman lefty Griffan Smith and senior right-hander Kyle Michalik would follow Kinker and give up another three runs, adding to the bullpen’s woes on the afternoon.

Junior righty Graham Lawson set down the Buckeyes in the eighth, but an error, a single, and a Pohl sacrifice fly led to one last run in the ninth. It was far too little, far too late.

What had at one point looked like a banner day for the boys from Columbus swiftly ended in defeat. Ohio State will have little time to recover, though. The Buckeyes will play an elimination game on Saturday at noon against the loser of the matchup between top seed and host East Carolina and fourth-seeded UNC Wilmington.

Those odds were 60-to-1 on April 3.

Bovada, a popular online sportsbook, released a new batch of odds for who they think will take home the 2019 college basketball national championship. For the Ohio State Buckeyes, their odds took a slight tumble.

Right after Villanova won the title in April, early odds had the Buckeyes sitting at a respectable 60-to-1 odds of winning the title next season. Those odds, as of June 1, now sit at 70-to-1.

Believe it or not, the Scarlet and Gray are tied for the fifth best odds among Big Ten schools to bring home the whole enchilada next season. For the Big Ten, the location of next year’s Final Four falls within their territory: U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Michigan and Michigan State hold the best odds as representatives of the conference, both coming in at 25-to-1. The Wolverines—reigning national runner-ups—have held at 25-to-1 since April, but the Spartans have dipped a bit; MSU was at 20-to-1 odds just a couple months ago.

Indiana is the biggest surprise among all programs. They were previously off the board in April, but now have surged to 40-to-1 odds to haul in next season’s title. A solid recruiting class, on top of a big commitment from five-star Romeo Langford, and you have a recipe for believers in the Hoosiers program. Right behind the Archie Miller coached program is another in-state team in Purdue. The Boilermakers hold 50-to-1 odds.

Maryland, like Ohio State, falls into place with 70-to-1 odds.

Below are the top 10 schools, regardless of conference, with the best odds to win the championship.
