Purdue Series @ West Lafayette, IN (FIRE BEALS)

I'll tell you want, let's look at it this way:

Suppose the Head Coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes Football team had an 8 year record of 63-49 with a losing record against Michigan, 1 Big Ten championship and 2 Bowl victories. Then, this year, they finish 8th in the B1G and are fortunate for that. In that 8 years they lost multiple games to MAC teams and even 1 to an Appy St level team.

Do you think there would be some "Fire ___"? Would YOU want to fire him? Be honest.

He wouldn't have made it to year 8. With those results he would have been fired after year 3.

This is the equivalent of what Beals has done at OSU. His record and accomplishments are far below the high standards set by this university. Now, I understand that baseball is not as high-profile as football, basketball, hell even women's basketball. But those mediocre results are not acceptable for Ohio State. At all.

Michael Redd, Clark Kellogg and Ron Stokes honored for good works in community

Michael Redd is accustomed to getting awards — he was an All-Big Ten basketball player and NBA All-Star — but he said an honor he will receive on Saturday means as much as any of them.

Redd and two fellow former Ohio State University basketball players, Clark Kellogg and Ron Stokes, will be honored during the VIP program at the King Arts Complex’s annual anniversary gala at the Hilton Columbus Downtown. The three are getting the recognition for giving back to the Columbus community.

“It’s truly humbling,” said Redd, 39, a West High School graduate and New Albany resident who helps minority businesses get their start. “It means a ton to be recognized by your hometown. It’s not just another award to me. It means something special to my soul.”

The arts complex opened in 1987. It is named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and devoted to promoting African-American culture and heritage.

The gala is a fundraiser that helps support programs such as youth summer camps, said executive director Demetries Neely, who explained that a committee chooses the VIP honorees.

“We look at our namesake and try to honor people who are MLK-like,” she said. “One of my favorite quotes of his is, ’Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ And I think these guys do that every day — pay it forward and pay it back. They are great ambassadors for the city of Columbus.”

Kellogg, 57, is a former Ohio Mr. Basketball at Cleveland St. Joseph High School (now called Villa Angela-St. Joseph) who played at Ohio State from 1979 to ’82, then for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. Now a veteran CBS college basketball analyst, Kellogg and his wife, Rosie, live in Westerville and support a variety of youth- and faith-based charities.

‒ The King Arts Complex’s gala celebration will be Saturday at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, 401 N. High St. The VIP reception starts at 6:30 p.m., the VIP dinner and program at 7 p.m. and the gala concert at 9 p.m. Tickets are $200, or $50 for the concert only. Stokes, 56, is a Canton native and was an All-Big Ten player during his OSU career (1981-85). He and his wife, Lavita, live in Blacklick and own two companies, Three Leaf Productions (a marketing and printing firm) and LARS Properties (property management and commercial painting). He also serves as the analyst on OSU men’s basketball radio broadcasts.

“I have great admiration for Ron and what he’s been able to do in terms of minority entrepreneurship,” Kellogg said. “That road is not always easy to navigate.”

Redd, whose 12-year NBA career ended in 2012, co-owns Wave Innovation Group, which invests in minority-owned local startups. He and his wife, Achea, also are active in faith-based organizations.

“Our commitment is to the city,” Redd said. “It doesn’t feel right to do things globally without first having an impact in your city.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior captain Dominic Canzone launched a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth as the Ohio State baseball team rallied to beat Wright State, 6-5, Wednesday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Freshman Marcus Ernst started the rally with a two-out single before Canzone’s team-best 13th homer of the season blasted off the batter’s eye in dead center against Raider reliever Tristan Taught. Right-handed reliever Joe Gahm picked up his first victory as a Buckeye, while left-handed reliever Andrew Magno recorded his eighth save. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 25-23 overall, while the Raiders fall to 34-15 in 2019.

    QUOTE FROM COACH
“We beat a good baseball team tonight and we played well,” head coach Greg Beals said. “Our pitching staff performed well and we got some big hits from Conner Pohl and Dominic Canzone with two outs. Canzone’s ball was absolutely blistered. To hit the top of the batter’s eye with no wind in our park, that went a long way. He’s always been a great hitter but now he’s developed power this year which makes him a very dangerous player. Today was a big game for us and you need your big-time players to step up in big-time games.”

    WRIGHT STATE SCORES FIRST
The Raiders pushed two runs home on a two-out, two-run single by Brandon Giltrow to grab the early lead in the top of the second.

    BUCKS GET ON THE BOARD
Ohio State got one run in the third when Matt Carpenter pushed home Nick Erwin on a fielder’s choice up the middle. The bases were left loaded following a strikeout to keep Wright State on top by one.

    OHIO STATE TIES THE GAME
The Scarlet and Gray evened the tides in the bottom of the fourth when Erwin pushed home Conner Pohl on a sac fly.

    POHL GOES YARD
Conner Pohl launched a two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to give Ohio State its first lead of the night.

    RAIDERS REGAIN THE LEAD
Wright State plated three runs on two hits in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. A bases-loaded walk made it a one-run game before Zach Weatherford slapped a two-run single up the middle to give the Raiders their second lead of the game.

    ON THE MOUND
Ohio State junior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Vance tied his career high with six strikeouts in just two innings pitched. He gave up two runs on three hits with no walks. Right-handed reliever Thomas Waning came into start the third. He tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks on two hits. Right-handed reliever Will Pfennig tossed the next two innings and kept the Raiders off the scoreboard with three strikeouts. Right-handed reliever Bayden Root threw the seventh and gave up three runs on two hits with three walks and one strikeout. Right-handed reliever Joe Gahm stranded two in the eighth with two strikeouts. Left-handed reliever Andrew Magno pitched a scoreless ninth to claim his eighth save of the year, while Gahm picked up his first win as a Buckeye.

    GAME NOTES

    • The OSU pitching staff struck out a combined 15 hitters. Ohio State pitchers have combined to fan at least eight in the 15-consecutive games.
    • Dominic Canzone extended his reached base streak to 44 games. It’s the third-longest active reached base streak in the country (as of May 8). He launched his team-best 13th homer of the season, marking the most homers by a Buckeye since Ronnie Dawson has 13 long balls in 2016.
    • Conner Pohl extended his reached base streak to 16 games with a one-out single in the bottom of the second, while Dillon Dingler extended his reached base streak to 24 contests with a walk in the third.
    • Pohl launched his second homer of the year tonight. It was his first homer since March 17.
    • Multi-hit games: Canzone (22), Pohl (12) and Ernst (4).
    • Multi-RBI games: Canzone (9) and Dingler (3).
    • Gahm picked up his first win as a Buckeye.
    • Magno registered his eighth save.
