How are you feeling about next season following Ohio State’s Spring Game?

You ask, we answer. Sometimes we ask, others answer. And then other times, we ask, we answer.
Throughout the year, we will be asking and answering questions about various Ohio State teams, the players, and anything else on our collective minds of varying degrees of importance. Now that Ohio State’s Spring Game has come and gone, we are now forced to deal with the nearly interminable four and a half months before the Buckeyes kick off the 2025-26 season against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. Aug. 30. However, at least now we have the extra data points of the Spring Game to help us completely overanalyze and obsess over every aspect of the team from now until the ball is back in the air.
So, in this week’s fan survey, we are asking you a couple of questions coming out of last Saturday’s exhibition game. One examining the team’s prospects this fall based on what you learned in the Spring Game, and another about players who might have opened your eyes a bit based on how they played.
Check out the questions and then make sure to give us your answer in the survey at the end of the article. If your specific perspective isn’t included, head to the comments at the bottom of the article to write in your answer.
This is a tough one, because not everyone came into the Spring Game with the same season expectations, so if you want to clarify where you are and/or where you are now, please do so in the comments.
But I did not see anything in the exhibition game that would have led me to have a demonstrably worse opinion of OSU’s potential this season in the game. So, for me personally, I am pretty much where I was coming, and perhaps slightly more encouraged. While I wasn’t at “Guaranteed Repeat National Champion” level, my expectations are still pretty high for the Buckeyes.
I’m going to keep my opinion on this private until we get the results, because I don’t want to taint anything, but I think a certain position group went a long way to making me feel a lot more secure about the depth and breadth of talent that will be available for the Buckeyes next season.

Question 1: How are you feeling about Ohio State’s 2025-26 season potential following the Spring Game?
This is a tough one, because not everyone came into the Spring Game with the same season expectations, so if you want to clarify where you are and/or where you are now, please do so in the comments.
But I did not see anything in the exhibition game that would have led me to have a demonstrably worse opinion of OSU’s potential this season in the game. Sure, there are areas that still need to be improved — both by development and potentially the portal — but that’s going to be true of every team at this point in the year.

Spring ball may be over, but Ohio State is hard at work on the recruiting trail.
With spring football concluded, the priority once again is recruiting. A massive summer on the books for Ohio State, the coaching staff will soon play host to more major guests in the early weeks of June. With the 2026 and 2027 classes taking the most attention, the second transfer portal window also offers the Buckeyes a chance to improve their already impressive roster.
In the mix for some recent entries to the portal, the Buckeyes have one position that could use some depth, and they’ll take every opportunity to fill the need ahead of the 2025 campaign.
It’s no secret that Ohio State’s roster is once again among the more talented teams in the college football landscape for the upcoming season. Still, if there’s a position or unit that could use some additional depth in Columbus it’s on the defensive line.
Talent is not an issue for the top returning players, as the Buckeyes have key returners ready to make the most of their turn. But in a season that hopefully includes more games than ever, you have to rely on depth to make a real run.
That said, with the transfer portal open again, Ohio State is going to look to make the most of their opportunity. On Wednesday we learned that North Carolina edge rusher Beau Atkinson has early plans to at least give the Buckeyes a close look.
A 6-foot-6, 265 pound athlete, Atkinson is quickly one of the premier players to look elsewhere for the remainder of his college career. A three-star out of high school, Atkinson has racked up double-digit numbers in sacks and now grades out as the No. 149 player nationally and 20th best edge rusher per the 247Sports transfer rankings, which includes players who have already found a new home.
Likely hearing from several schools already, it’s Ohio State and Georgia who have quickly locked up visit dates, and the Buckeyes will do so as early as this weekend. A real shot at adding quality depth to the unit, Larry Johnson and the rest of the staff will roll out the red carpet for Beau while visiting.
Momentum in the 2026 class is leading to the notion that Carlos Locklyn and the Buckeyes are going to have a very impressive running back haul. Looking for two guys in this current cycle, Ohio State has put themselves in a great place, and sooner than later should be adding to their already loaded class.
Looking ahead, it’s never too early to get in on the 2027 players, and Ohio State has done just that with Tennessee native, David Gabriel-Georges. A 6-foot, 200 pound running back with over 30 offers to his name, Gabriel-Georges is not currently ranked via his 247Sports profile, but schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, and a host of others in the fold should tell you all you need to know about his skillset.
Taking his most recent trip to Ohio State this past weekend, Gabriel-Georges has reportedly risen to the top of the charts for the Buckeyes as Locklyn’s top target in the class and thoroughly enjoyed his time with the staff.
In just his short time in Columbus, Locklyn has proved he can recruit with the best of them, so it’s no surprise to see him once again appealing to the top players at his position.
The No. 373 player nationally and 58th best receiver per the 247Sports Composite, it’s not going to be a shock by any means to see him rise up the ranks as he continues working as an Ohio State commit.

In this episode, we discuss the most recent mock draft, Kent State’s firing of head coach Kenni Burns, and the latest in the Nico Iamaleava.
Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
Money, or lack thereof, is a major theme in this week’s traffic update, starting with Oregon suing former and current Ohio State running backs coach Carlos Lockyn for breach of contract. According to Oregon, Coach Lock owes them $400,000 from his buyout clause, and they want that plus interest. $400,000 is pocket change to the Oregon Football program, so the real question is, would they have still pursued this lawsuit if they beat Ohio State in the playoffs?
In other money news, Kent State fired head coach Kenni Burns due to mismanagement of money. According to the reports, Burns borrowed $100,000 from a local business owner, and he racked up over $16,000 in unauthorized purchases on his university-issued P-card.
Lastly, Nico Iamaleava is heading to UCLA after leaving Tennessee because they wouldn’t restructure his NIL contract to give him more money.
In the road trip segment, the guys look at Dane Brugler’s seven round mock draft and break down their five favorite team fits for Big Ten draft prospects.
Dante loves both fits for the two Buckeyes taken in the first round, with Emeka Egbuka projected to land with the Washington Commanders and offensive tackle Josh Simmons projected to land with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jordan thinks the Bengals getting Derrick Harmon at pick 17 and the Lions getting JT Tuimoloau at pick 60 are two perfect fits and steals of the draft. We also discuss picks we don’t like, and while we try to stay in the Big Ten, Dante can’t help but share his displeasure with the Steelers potentially taking Shedeur Sanders in the first round.
For their weekly pitstop, Dante can’t wait for WrestleMania this weekend. With it being John Cena’s last Wrestlemania, he’s convinced it’s going to be record breaking and memorable. Jordan, finally catching up on TV after football season, recommends the new Netflix mini-series Adolescence.

Ohio State softball looks to keep up their winning ways against Dayton and Michigan

The Buckeyes enter today’s game at Dayton with a 33-10-1 record before heading home for a weekend series with Michigan.
Ohio State’s women’s softball team has put together a strong season in head coach Kirin Kumar’s first year as head coach of the Buckeyes. Entering today’s game at Dayton, Ohio State has posted a 33-10-1 record, which has them ranked 24th in the country this week.
The Buckeyes are coming off a weekend series at Penn State where they took two of three games against the Nittany Lions. With their series win, Ohio State is now 6-4 over their last 10 games.
With the way they have started the season, the Buckeyes will be looking to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022. Ohio State currently sits sixth in the Big Ten with an 8-5 conference record, sitting just behind Michigan, who they host for three games this weekend.
Even though they still have 11 conference games left in the regular season, it’s unlikely the Buckeyes will be able to catch Oregon and UCLA, who sit at the top of the Big Ten standings with a 12-1 record, to win their first regular season conference title since 2007.
Prior to accepting the Ohio State job in the offseason, Kirin Kumar was the head coach at Miami (OH) from 2021 to 2024, amassing a 174-56-1 record with the RedHawks, winning the MAC and qualifying for an NCAA Regional in each of her four years with the school.
Kumar replaced Kelly Kovach Schoenly, who had coached the Buckeyes since 2013. Schoenly compiled a 367-226-1, leading the Buckeyes to five appearances in the NCAA Regionals. Like Kumar, Schoenly also was the head coach at Miami before Ohio State lured her to Columbus.
Despite being in her first year with the Buckeyes, Kumar is close to eclipsing a mark of her predecessor. Schoenly’s best year as Ohio State’s coach saw her 2018 and 2022 teams win 36 games. To equal that number, Kumar’s team this year only has to win four more games.
With three games against both Purdue and Illinois, who sit below the Buckeyes in the Big Ten standings, Ohio State should be able to reach at least 37 victories this year as they work to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State has displayed tremendous home run power so far this season, crushing a nation’s best 105 homers. Jasmyn Burns leads the team with 20 big flies this year, tying Lilli Piper’s school record from 2018. Because of her home run prowess, the sophomore has driven in 63 runs this year, and is hitting .492 on the season.
The other Buckeye hitting over .400 this year is Morgan Frye, who enters today’s game with a .413 average.
Reagan Milliken, Hadley Parisien, Kami Kortokrax, and Taylor Cruse are the other Ohio State batters who have hit at least 10 homers this year. Milliken closed out the Penn State series with three home runs in the finale, making her just the third Buckeye to ever hit a trifecta of homers in a single game.
Milliken now has 62 RBIs on the season, sitting just one RBI away from tying Burns from the team lead. Both hitters should easily break Stacy Roth’s single season school record of 66 RBIs, the only question is which of the dynamic duo will finish with more runs batted in at the end of the season.

Anchoring the pitching staff for Ohio State this year has been Lorin Boutte, who is 15-7 with a 4.41 ERA and five complete games over her 21 starts. Boutte has struck out 102 batters this year over the 106.1 innings she has pitched. Kennedy Kay has started 10 games, going 9-3 with a 5.27 ERA.
Layna Gerhard and Kassandra Gewecke are a combined 9-0 with five complete games over the 32 games they have pitched in, with 13 of those appearances being starts. The future looks bright for the Buckeye pitching staff since Boutte, Gerhard, and Gewecke are all freshmen.
Wednesday’s game at Dayton can be seen on ESPN+ while the three-game series against Michigan that starts on Friday night can be seen on B1G+ if you can’t make it down to Buckeye Field for any of the games.

Layna Gerhard and Kassandra Gewecke are a combined 9-0 with five complete games over the 32 games they have pitched in, with 13 of those appearances being starts. The future looks bright for the Buckeye pitching staff since Boutte, Gerhard, and Gewecke are all freshmen.
