NCAA Basketball: Michigan at Ohio State

The former five-star recruit did not live up to lofty expectations in his one year at Ohio State.

Following one unsteady season in Columbus, sophomore forward Aaron Bradshaw announced today that he intends to enter the transfer portal and will play elsewhere next season. Bradshaw, who was a five-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, transferred to Ohio State last spring after playing at Kentucky his freshman season.

Originally intended to start at center for the Buckeyes, Bradshaw’s season never got the type of consistency that he would’ve liked after a similarly uneven freshman year in Lexington. He finished the season averaging 6.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He was a 49% shooter overall, 27.3% from three-point land, and was 74.2% at the free throw line. He appeared in 22 games, starting five of them.

After averaging 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game through Ohio State’s first four games of the season, Bradshaw missed the Buckeyes’ next five games as the university investigated an alleged “domestic incident” that occurred at his home in late November. The university’s investigation eventually concluded, and Bradshaw returned to the team for the Buckeyes’ December 21 game against his former team, Kentucky.

Bradshaw missed five additional games throughout the course of the season due to injury and illness, but his first two games back after the prolonged absence in December were his best performances. He scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting against Kentucky on December 21, and then scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting against Indiana State eight days later. Bradshaw scored in double-digits just once in the 16 games after that.

Ohio State originally planned to start Bradshaw at center with Sean Stewart at power forward, but Bradshaw’s absence allowed for Stewart to move to center and Devin Royal to also start, and the sophomore has had a breakout season. When Bradshaw returned to the team in late December, Jake Diebler opted to have the seven-footer come off the bench and start the Royal/Stewart combo instead.

Bradshaw was the No. 4 overall recruit in the class of 2023, the top-rated center, and the best player in New Jersey. He transferred to Ohio State last season after John Calipari left Kentucky to take the Arkansas job, and described Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler as “a really good person who really cares about me” at Ohio State’s media day in October.

Ohio State is expected to pursue interior help in the transfer portal this spring after allowing the fourth-most offensive rebounds per game in the Big Ten this past season and finishing 12th in the conference in total rebounds. With Stewart, Bradshaw, Austin Parks, and Ivan Njegovan all with two-plus years of eligibility remaining, some movement was expected within that position group.

With Bradshaw leaving the program, Ohio State now has two available roster spots for next season. Starting with the 2025-2026 season, the NCAA will no longer enforce a scholarship limit. Instead, teams can have 15 players on a roster, regardless of whether they are on scholarship or not.

2025 Rose Bowl

Instead of trying to scare people with April Fools jokes, we figured we’d be upfront about making up five fake stories about the Buckeyes.

We have made it through the first three months of 2025, and it is now April 1, or the worst day of the year to try and take anyone seriously. Since it is April Fool's Day, you have to take anything you hear today with a grain of salt, since it likely is really just someone trying to pull a prank on you. If only every prank today were as innocent as Cardale Jones’ “May Fools” transfer prank back in 2015, but unfortunately, these days it is hard to tell what is a joke and what is reality, considering what is going on with *waves arms at everything*.

Toda,y I’m going to have a little fun with April Fool’s Day and come up with five announcements that would be tough for Ohio State fans to stomach, much like how Jones made Buckeye Nation freak out for a few seconds when he said he was transferring to Akron. At least you know heading into them that they aren’t real! At least I hope they aren’t real, or these jokes don’t give any ideas to those in charge.

Ohio State football playing only noon games in the 2025 season

Hoping for the clash between Texas and Ohio State to be under the lights at Ohio Stadium? Think again! Have fun cooking in the sun when it’ll likely be 85-90 degrees that afternoon. After playing so many noon games in 2024, Ohio State and FOX decided that they might as well just go ahead and make the Buckeyes the ambassadors of noon. Why would you want to put a rematch of a College Football Playoff semifinal on in primetime? Gotta get it out of the way early in the day!

Who cares that noon games make it tougher for recruits from out of state who play Friday night football games to get to Columbus in time to take in a game? Recruits just have to take a leap of faith and commit to Ohio State. If it doesn’t work out, there is always the transfer portal.

The more people hate noon games, the more they’ll stay home and watch on TV and drive up the ratings! Besides, FOX and their Big Noon Kickoff is just looking out for fans since ticket prices have gotten out of control. Just think of how much money they’ll save by not going to noon games! Plus, your body will thank you since lines for the bathroom are a lot more manageable when watching at home.

Jeremiah Smith announces he is transferring to Michigan

Even before the college football season ended, there were rumblings that Jeremiah Smith would be targeted by numerous programs in the transfer portal. While Miami somehow wasn’t able to pony up enough money to lure Smith back to the area where he grew up, Michigan was able to convince Smith to switch sides in the rivalry. Apparently, teaming up with Bryce Underwood was too much to pass up after Smith realized just how rough life after Will Howard would be.

Despite winning a national title in his first year in college, it looks like Smith just wants to be on the winning side of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry. The Wolverines have won four straight against the Buckeyes. Judging by this move, Smith doesn’t think Ryan Day and Ohio State have what it takes to snap their losing streak against That Team Up North anytime soon.

Following a down year in his first season as head coach of Michigan, it looks like Sherrone Moore is channeling his inner-Harbaugh when it comes to cheating and tampering.

Ohio State building new football stadium in Dublin’s Bridge Park

Ohio Stadium is over 100 years old and getting older by the day. It’s time for the university to start looking towards the future. Since every other business in Columbus seems to have announced they are moving to Dublin’s Bridge Park, Ohio State decided that area will be the home for the stadium that will replace Ohio Stadium. Just think of how close the stadium will be to Urban Meyer’s Pint House!

Tennessee v Ohio State - Playoff First Round

Once the new Ohio Stadium is opened at Bridge Park, the decrepit stadium the team currently plays in will be torn down, and more apartment and mixed-use buildings will be built in its place, since if there is anything Columbus doesn’t have enough of it is apartment and mixed-use buildings. It’s just too bad Tennessee couldn’t beat Ohio State back in December because they could have started the demolition process by floating the goal posts down the Olentangy River.

Jake Diebler given 10-year contract extension by Ohio State

What more can you say about the first full season as Ohio State head coach for Jake Diebler? A limited stay in the Big Ten Tournament and no postseason basketball for the program. It’s just what the doctor ordered after Buckeye fans are just now recovering from the championship playoff run by the football team.

Plus, there was the whole NHL Stadium Series game for people in Columbus to care about, so Diebler was 10/10 on making sure nobody invested too much into the basketball team this year.

Just look at the rest of the Big Ten. Maryland just lost Kevin Williard to Villanova. Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana all fired their coaches. Ohio State knew they needed to lock up their guy as soon as possible.

Who cares if he is the right man for the job, he is a body and not that expensive. With how many resources the school is sinking into the football program, we can’t have a successful football team AND basketball team. That’s just too much to care about. Besides, if we need a basketball team to consistently lose before the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament is over, the women’s basketball team has shown they can fill that role.

Nadine Muzerall joining Columbus Blue Jackets coaching staff

What more can Ohio State women’s ice hockey coach Nadine Muzerall accomplish with the program? Under Muzerall, the Buckeyes have won two national titles and made a couple of other trips to the Frozen Four. Muzerall has turned the Buckeyes into a powerhouse in women’s college hockey, so naturally, it is time for her to take a leap to the professional level.

The Blue Jackets aren’t replacing current head coach Dean Evason since he has done a great job in his first season in Columbus, especially considering the difficult circumstances he has had to deal with following the death of Johnny Gaudreau.

Muzerall will be an assistant on Evason’s staff, as she was brought in to teach this team to win in games where it truly matters. The Blue Jackets have so little postseason success that they needed to find someone with some wins in the playoff games to pass along some of the tricks of the trade.

The move might have been made a little too late to push Columbus into the playoffs this year, but next year, with a full season to work with Muzerall, it is going to be hard to imagine anybody beating the Blue Jackets in the playoffs. Fire the cannon!

NCAA Football: CFP National Championship-Ohio State Practice

Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

You ask, we answer. Sometimes we ask, others answer. And then other times, we ask, we answer.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in full-on spring football mode, so as the players learn the schemes and perfect their technique, we asked the team’s fans about their thoughts on a couple of questions surrounding the squad.

Last week, we asked Buckeye Nation about what they felt would make for a successful 2025-26 season as the team is coming off a national championship. From winning The Game to winning the title, there were tons of options, and I have to say, I am a bit surprised by the results.

We also asked what folks thought about how head coach Ryan Day handled the personnel turnover on the coaching staff during the offseason. You can see the results below, and my off-the-cuff reactions to the responses.

If you want to have your say on the matter, head down to the comment section at the bottom of the page and sound off!

Question 1: What would the minimum be for you to consider the 2025-26 football season a success for Ohio State?

I’m not gonna lie, I’m not sure what to make of this result. On one hand, now that Ohio State has won the national title, I can understand why nearly 40% of respondents would need a win in The Game to feel good about the 2025-26 season. However, we have also seen that in the 12-team playoff era, beating your rival is not required to have a successful season.

Personally, of course, I want (and even need) the Buckeyes to beat Michigan this season, but we live in a new world of college football where a loss in your regular-season finale rivalry game does not preclude you from making the playoff or even winning the national title. So from my perspective, we do have to kind of rewire our brain chemistry in order to prioritize what is most important.

So even if you are saying that a win over the Wolverines is required for the season to be successful, I feel like there’s got to be more than that to meet the minimum level for me. I would say that they would have to make the CFP semifinals to be considered a truly successful season. I might be able to wrap my head around a quarterfinal berth, depending on the specific circumstances of the season, but coming off of a national title, I think making it back to the Final 4 would absolutely be a success, even despite all of the roster turnover.

Question 2: How would you grade Ryan Day’s offseason staff moves?

I think that this is a pretty fair grade from Buckeye Nation. If Day had been able to keep Chip Kelly in Columbus, I probably would have gone with an A, but losing some of his credentials coming off a dazzling playoff run has to hurt a little bit, even if you completely understand the circumstances.

When it comes to elevating Brian Hartline to the role of sole offensive coordinator, I don’t have much of a problem with that. I am always hesitant about people getting their first opportunities as head coaches and coordinators at Ohio State, but this is a unique situation. Not only has Hartline technically been the co-OC for a number of years, but he has also been an integral part of building the OSU offense into the juggernaut that we saw during the playoff run.

So, I really can’t be upset about his taking the play sheet and presumably calling plays this season. With Day there to guide him through the new responsibilities and new offensive line coach and run-game coordinator, Tyler Bowen, helping with the ground attack, there is reason to feel confident.

Admittedly, I will be a little hesitant when the Buckeyes take the field against Texas, just because we haven’t seen what it looks like with Hartline running the show, but I am cautiously optimistic.

The major move on the other side of the ball I kind of feel the opposite about. During a lot of last season — and especially in the postseason — it felt like former defensive coordinator Jim Knowles just wasn’t vibing with Day and the rest of the staff. Things started to percolate following the mid-season loss to Oregon when the head coach became more involved with the defense. Then, following the loss to Michigan, the DC just seemed to be extra on edge in press conferences and interviews.

So given what appears to have been a little bit of friction on the staff (not to mention the perceived differences of opinion between Knowles and defensive line coach Larry Johnson), while I admit to being a bit shocked, it did feel natural for Knowles to move on.

His replacement, Matt Patricia, obviously has a ton of NFL experience — some of it good, some of it not so good — and he comes with some baggage that, on first blush, seems to run counter to the core principles of the Ohio State football program. However, Day has stated that the program did its due diligence on the matter and was satisfied by what it found.

On the field, the response from players has been very positive so far through spring practice. There is little doubt that Patricia knows how to be a championship-level DC, but will he be able to translate his Super Bowl success to the college level? His post-Bill Belichick career has been nowhere near as productive as it was while he was in New England, so there is at least a little cause for concern now that he is Ohio State’s “head coach of the defense.”

Nonetheless, it’s tough to be too upset about the on-field abilities of a guy with multiple Super Bowl rings who learned at the knee of the greatest coach in pro football history.
