Kicking off our series highlighting each of the Buckeyes’ freshmen with the five-star quarterback.
Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class featured 26 commitments and ranked No. 4 in the country, not including transfer portal additions. Each of these new Buckeyes hopes to one day become a star in Columbus, just like so many highly touted prospects before them. As part of Land-Grant Holy Land’s series Freshman Focus, we will take a look at all of these new members of the scarlet and gray and what they can bring to the team.
First up on the list is five-star quarterback, Tavien St. Clair.
Ohio State under Ryan Day has become a bastion of quarterback play.
J.T. Barrett put together a career-best season as a senior upon Day’s arrival to campus in 2017 as quarterbacks coach, and he followed that up with Dwayne Haskins’ record-breaking 2018 campaign.
Since taking over as head coach in 2019, Day has seen almost nothing but elite quarterback play from Justin Fields and CJ Stroud to most recently Will Howard, who had far and away his best year in his only season in Columbus.
Day is hoping to now follow up Howard’s national championship-caliber performance with a similar effort from former five-star prospect Julian Sayin, who looked very impressive in Ohio State’s spring game this past weekend. As is typically the case, however, the Buckeyes aren’t just built for the now, but for the future as well.
In that not-so-distant future is another five-star prospect in freshman Tavien St. Clair.
The No. 3 quarterback and No. 7 overall player in the 2025 class, St. Clair was the No. 1 player in Ohio as the pride of Bellefontaine High School. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound QB began as a bit of an unknown commodity, but rose up the ranks to become one of the nation’s top passers.
He would ultimately choose the Buckeyes over offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Penn State and around two dozen others.
“Being a kid from Ohio, that’s what you dream of, being a Buckeye.” St. Clair told Eleven Warriors back when he committed in June 2023. “It’s 50 minutes down the road, family can watch whenever they want [...] There’s not a better place I’d rather be.”
St. Clair was a monster for Bellefontaine, throwing for more than 10,000 yards and completing more than 100 touchdown passes for the Chieftains. A runner up for 2024 Ohio Mr. Football, St. Clair threw for over 2,500 yards with 29 touchdowns to only four interceptions as a senior, adding another nine scores with his legs.
The talented QB’s most impressive campaign came in his junior year, wherein he passed for a school-record 3,983 yards with 37 TDs to six INTs.
A three-time Offensive Player of the Year in the Central Buckeye Conference, the accolades for St. Clair were not limited to the Ohio high school ranks. The blue chip prospect also showed out at the Elite 11 Finals last summer, winning the Panini Accuracy Challenge and finishing as the No. 1 player on Day 2 of the event, but finishing in second place overall to Alabama’s Keelon Russell.
St. Clair was also named a Navy All-American, but did not compete in the event as an early enrollee at Ohio State. He also most recently won the accuracy competition at the Nike “Next Ones” event back in February.
A talented multi-sport athlete who also played basketball and baseball, here is some of what 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins had to say in his scouting report of St. Clair:
We got a small taste of St. Clair’s abilities in the Buckeyes’ spring game, while also seeing some of the growing pains of a talented player coming from a smaller school to a place like Ohio State. The freshman threw a pair of interceptions in The Shoe, but also completed 11-of-18 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown after settling in during the second half.
St. Clair isn’t going to be a day-one starter, nor was that ever going to be the expectation for the highly regarded prospect. However, the Ohio kid has all of the tools to one day be a star in this Ohio State offense.
We won’t see St. Clair attempt a collegiate pass in a non-garbage time setting in 2025, but the future of the quarterback position looks bright with him on campus.

Checking in on Ohio State baseball alums on MLB rosters

There are three Buckeyes currently on rosters, and a fourth who made a brief appearance.
We’re nearly a month into the 2025 Major League Baseball season, and while there aren’t many Ohio State baseball alums on MLB rosters, there are two who are getting consistent at-bats, another currently in a major league starting rotation, and a fourth who played briefly this month before getting sent back down.
There have been 64 Ohio State players who have gone on to appear in the big leagues, with the most recent debut belonging to right-handed pitcher Jack Neely, who debuted for the Chicago Cubs last season and made six appearances, striking out seven batters in six innings and pitching to a 9.00 ERA.
Neely is currently pitching for the Triple-A affiliate of Chicago, the Iowa Cubs. He has made four scoreless appearances and recorded two saves thus far in 2025.
While Neely is trying to pitch his way back to the big leagues down on the farm, there are three Buckeyes currently playing on Major League teams, and a fourth we’ll throw in as an “honorable mention” because he did play at the MLB level at one point in this season before a demotion.

Feltner pitched at Ohio State from 2016-2018 and is originally from Hudson, Ohio. He was a fourth round draft pick by the Rockies in 2018, and made his debut in 2021.
Over his first five seasons, Feltner has pitched in 66 games for the Rockies, starting 65 of them and making one relief appearance. Pitching mostly in hitter-friendly, high-altitude conditions in Denver, he’s compiled a 9-24 record with a 5.21 ERA and has struck out 283 batters in 328 innings.
Feltner has had an uneven start to his age-28 season so far, allowing 10 earned runs in 18.2 innings this season across three starts, resulting in a 4.82 ERA on the season. His earned run average was below 3.00 heading into Tuesday night’s start against the powerhouse LA Dodgers, but they tagged Feltner for five earned runs in 2+ innings to balloon his ERA to nearly 5.00.

Dingler played at Ohio State from 2018-2020 before he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft. Dingler is a Canton, Ohio-native and was a two-time captain for the Buckeyes. Dingler made his MLB debut in 2024, appearing in 27 games as a rookie. Because Dingler only took 87 at-bats last season, he entered the 2025 season with his rookie status still intact.
The 26-year old catcher made Detroit’s Opening Day roster this season as the primary backup to Jake Rogers, but due to injuries in front of him, Dingler has played in 13 of the Tigers’ 17 games. He’s hitting .302 so far this season — third on the Tigers — and is one of four Detroit players with two or more home runs through 17 games. He is also third on the team in RBI (9) and fourth in OPS (.853).
Dingler is making a case to become Detroit’s full-time starting catcher, even when Rogers returns. Even if the Tigers go back to Rogers, Dingler’s bat will keep in the lineup more often than not if he continues to hit.

Dezenzo played at Ohio State from 2019-2022 and is originally from Alliance, Ohio. He was a 12th round pick of the Houston Astros in the 2022 MLB Draft, and made his debut last August for the Astros.
Dezenzo appeared in 19 games as a rookie for the Astros, hitting .242 with a .648 OPS in 65 plate appearances. He played both first base and third base last season for Houston, and also hit his first two major league home runs.
Like Dingler, Dezenzo also retained his rookie status for the 2025 season, and made the Astros Opening Day roster. He has appeared in six of Houston’s 17 games, going 2-for-15, striking out seven times and drawing one walk.
He has played first base, left field, and right field this season for Houston. His defensive versatility gives him value to the Astros, but he’s struggled at the dish this year.
Dominic Canzone

After appearing in a combined 126 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners the past two seasons and hitting 14 home runs, Canzone did not make the Mariners’ Opening Day roster this season. He was called up by Seattle on April 7, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in two games, and was sent back down to Triple-A Tacoma on April 13.
Canzone has hit .276 with an .861 OPS in eight games for Tacoma this season, with two home runs.
The 6-foot-tall, 190-pound outfielder played at Ohio State from 2017-2019 and is from Sagamore Township, located between Akron and Cleveland. He was an 8th-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2019 MLB Draft, and was traded from Arizona to Seattle in 2023.

From a Big Ten title, a home run for the record books, Big Ten honors, and a few big wins, stay updated on the Buckeyes’ top accomplishments across the sporting world.
While much of Buckeye Nation was watching the defending national champions take the field for the Spring Game Saturday, the rest of the spring sports teams were busy making us proud as well.
Here’s what you need to know to stay in the loop on all your favorite OSU spring sports this week.
Ohio State took home the title at the Buckeye Classic last Saturday — its first win of the season — after edging out Michigan by just one shot to finish on top of the 13-team pool.
The back-and-forth battle, which included multiple lead changes, ended with Ohio State on top thanks to a pair of birdies on holes 14 and 15. The team earned a final-round score of 282 (-18). Freshman Vaughn Harber came up big for the Buckeyes with a career-best fourth-place finish after shooting 6-under, while Jack Vojtko shot under par in all three rounds for the first time in his career to finish at 5-under in seventh place.
The Buckeyes will stay in Columbus this weekend as they host the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at the OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course to close out the regular season.
Ohio State took two games of their three-game road series against Penn State this weekend, clinching the final game, 14-11, after senior Reagan Milliken became just the third Buckeye ever to hit three home runs in the same game.
Milliken went 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs and homers in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, and she wasn’t the only Buckeye getting in on the action. Morgan Frye batted 1.000 in the game, going 3-for-3, while Jasmyn Burns added three hits of her own and Skylar Limon tacked on 3 RBIs.
Buckeye bats have been hot all year, and while Milliken’s spectacular showing stood out on Sunday, the Buckeye offense had a lot to show for itself this weekend. During Friday’s series opener, which OSU took, 9-5, the team put six runs on the board with six hits and 5 two-out RBIs during the fourth inning. Then in Saturday’s loss, the Buckeyes earned their 100th home run of the year off a solo shot from Hadley Parisien.
Up next, OSU closes out an eight-game road trip with a midweek game at Dayton on Wednesday before welcoming rival Michigan to Columbus for a three-game series this weekend.
After No. 15 Ohio State defeated Quincy, 3-1, in the regular season finale last weekend on the road, the Buckeyes tied for third place in the conference standings, taking the tiebreaker over Lewis to earn themselves a No. 3 seed.
In addition to Saturday’s win, OSU also defeated Quincy, 3-0, on Friday. Saturday was their 10th win in 12 games, marking their third consecutive season with 11 conference wins.
Each of the top four teams in the conference has the opportunity to host a quarterfinal game, and OSU will host No. 6 Lindenwood Saturday, April 19, at 5 p.m. ET in Columbus. The Buckeyes are hoping to win their third consecutive MIVA postseason tournament to advance to the NCAA championships.
Ohio State’s men’s tennis team clinched a share of its 19th consecutive Big Ten title after sweeping Northwestern, 4-0, on the road Sunday.
The Buckeyes earned the doubles point with wins from Alex Fuchs and Alexander Bernard and Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin, while singles points were earned by Filin, Will Jansen, and Jack Anthrop, who is on a 13-match win streak. It marked their 24th consecutive win over the Wildcats.
Sunday’s victory brings OSU to 22-2 on the season (11-0 in conference). Up next, they’ll try to remain undefeated in the Big Ten as they welcome Indiana on Friday and Purdue on Sunday to close out the regular season.
Though Ohio State’s rowing team was off this weekend, they earned two Big Ten Boat of the Week honors mid-last week after they won seven races against SMU the previous Friday. Their 1V4 and 2V8 boats were recognized for their wins, having won their races by three and four seconds, respectively.
After resting up this week, they’ll head to Sarasota, Florida, for the Big Ten Invite this Friday and Saturday.

Ohio State’s men’s tennis team clinched a share of its 19th consecutive Big Ten title after sweeping Northwestern, 4-0, on the road Sunday.
The Buckeyes earned the doubles point with wins from Alex Fuchs and Alexander Bernard and Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin, while singles points were earned by Filin, Will Jansen, and Jack Anthrop, who is on a 13-match win streak. It marked their 24th consecutive win over the Wildcats.
Sunday’s victory brings OSU to 22-2 on the season (11-0 in conference). Up next, they’ll try to remain undefeated in the Big Ten as they welcome Indiana on Friday and Purdue on Sunday to close out the regular season.
Women’s rowing earns two Big Ten Boat of the Week honors
Though Ohio State’s rowing team was off this weekend, they earned two Big Ten Boat of the Week honors mid-last week after they won seven races against SMU the previous Friday. Their 1V4 and 2V8 boats were recognized for their wins, having won their races by three and four seconds, respectively.
After resting up this week, they’ll head to Sarasota, Florida, for the Big Ten Invite this Friday and Saturday.

Ohio State women’s basketball adds T’Yana Todd in transfer portal

The former Boston College sharpshooter brings consistent three-point shooting to the Buckeyes
With one week remaining in the transfer portal window, the only news coming out of Ohio State women’s basketball was outgoing players. That changed Tuesday when former Boston College guard T’Yana Todd committed to the Buckeyes. Todd announced her decision on Instagram Tuesday afternoon.
Todd is a 6-foot guard out of Ontario, Canada who brings a deep shooting threat to the Buckeyes. In 32 games for Boston College during the 2024-25 season, Todd started 29 games and averaged a career high 13.7 points per game.
Not only did Todd lead the Boston College Eagles in scoring but also the entire ACC in shooting efficiency from beyond the arc at 45.9 percent. That put Todd fourth in the country.
Even so, Todd’s 67 three-point shots made per game are fewer than Ohio State shooting guard Chance Gray, who hit 70 shots. In head coach Kevin McGuff’s offense, Todd will get more opportunities to shoot compared to Boston College, where she averaged 4.6 shots from three per game compared to 6.1 for Gray.
The question now for Todd is where does McGuff put the shooting guard who played a similar role for Boston College as Gray did for Ohio State. Todd enters the Buckeyes with three starters gone for the second consecutive season. This time, it’s three-guard Taylor Thierry, who was drafted to the Atlanta Dream on Monday night, and forward Cotie McMahon who transferred to Ole Miss for her final season of NCAA eligibility.
Todd does not play a similar style of basketball to either Thierry or McMahon, but there is nobody else on the team who is a like-for-like for either of the talented former Buckeyes. That means McGuff is likely to adjust his game plan for the group he brings into the 25-26 season, headlined by sophomore point guard Jaloni Cambridge.
As a member of the Canadian youth national team, Todd helped her U19 side win Canada’s second ever World Cup medal when they defeated France in the 2023 bronze medal game.
In 2022 and 2023, Todd played against the Buckeyes as a member of Boston College. In Boston, Todd scored 10 points with three steals. On Nov. 16, 2023, Todd traveled to Columbus with the Eagles and led BC with 16 points. Both games ended with victories for Ohio State.
McGuff has said in the past that he uses the portal to fill gaps in the team and all signs point to Todd coming in for that three-point shooting. Now, Ohio State needs more defensive help in the press. Todd averaged one steal per game last season and 1.3 in the 23-24, which is her career high.
With the addition of Todd, Ohio State’s roster is up to 10 players for next season. That does not include redshirt sophomore center Faith Carson, who entered the transfer portal on March 24, 2025.
